Cooking tips: using alum or stainless cookware over a propane burner or open flame will make most foods stick. Most backpack campers use alot of "just add boiling water" instant foods like rice side dishes, oatmeal, soups, coffee and cocoa, freezedried packets, etc. The extra boiled water can be used for cleanup. I always take at least 1 two-liter bottle of water to cook & drink (for 1 day) if I'm not sure there will be fresh water available at the campsite.. And don't forget a roll of paracord. Creative motocamping is freakin awesome!!

I used to like to go camping weather on the bike or not. But now I need a bathroom very close as I tend to get lost in the dark coming back to my campsite. When I would go on my bike I would just sleep on the ground. Sometimes when I woke up there was a squirrel on me looking at me! Nice review on your gear. Ride safe and be healthy.

I have also have a coleman adventure cup. I got rid of the green cups, and I found an old coffee press at a thrift store, and took out the post and filter and it fits in my adventure cup. I cut down the center metal post to make it packable, then i can make french pressed coffee, or you could make cold steeped coffee.

I have two suggestions for you. 1 is you should be also using ear plugs when you are riding on the hwy. The wind noise can damage your hearing take it from a old guy who needs hearing aids. 2 Is you mite want to use some stick on velcro to hold those straps down. Have a good time camping,

John you are the smartest person alive 😁 you are the only one I've heard other than myself suggest riding with earplugs to reduce hearing loss !! Been riding almost thirty years and I ALWAYS ride with earplugs , good on ya for pointing that out!! I've had so many people tell me that you can't hear everything around you that I hadn't even thought to mention it in a post . You and I both know that you can hear things better because of earplugs , because there's very little wind noise with the earplugs 👍

Our campgrounds won’t be open until the end of June here in Michigan. I can’t wait, I’m dying to get out to Motocamp. For multi-day trips we pack some freeze dried food for dinner and instant oatmeal for breakfast and small stuff to snack on during the day. We normally don’t spend more than one or two nights at a site. That way we just need to boil water and it saves some space.

Regarding your new cooking supplies... I tried someting on a camping trip a few years ago that worked like a charm. Prepare a few single serve meals that you enjoy but are generally not easily prepared over a fire. Put them in freezer style ziplock bags and freeze them hard in the coldest freezer you have access to. It's also best to double bag them. At the campground just boil water in something you can get the bags in and let them float in it until it reaches boiling. At that point, the contents of the bag should be thoroughly thawed and heated for eating. Open and enjoy your non-traditional campfood. I did this with lasagna and it was wonderful.

New subscriber. Ive gotten several tips from you. One tip i can give you, when you were showing your tent fan/light you said you took all the batteries out so it wouldn't drain them. You can leave all the batteries in, but turn one of them backwards/upside down (you can also use a small piece of plastic between one of the batteries and the metal plate/coil (i use pieces of old, cut-up, credit cards)). That way when you need whatever item to work, all your batteries are right there. You don't have to dig thru a bag to find batteries.

Great vid Jess. If you don't like the round part of the bag sticking up on top of the main pack while you ride, just strap it to the luggage rack. Also, be careful when choosing small cheap tents - the inexpensive ones tend to have poor zippers and screens, and leaky seams that aren't taped and sealed properly. And you are right, most people find out they need a sleeping bag rated about 20 degrees below the coldest temps they expect to have. The luggage rack does work for strapping on that soft cooler, with some beer and food 😋. Is your pack positioned so you can lean back against it when cruising?

Thank you for this video! I've camped all my life but just recently started motorcycling. I'd love to get into motocamping but looking at all my gear, it's huge and meant to be tossed into cars or pickups. I'm going to need smaller/lighter stuff. I'm so glad you attached links and that most/all of the stuff is light on the wallet, I don't want to spend a $1000 or more. I also follow Amanda at As the Magpie Flies and she has some motocooking videos with great tips. For instant coffee you should think of trying Mount Hagen, its a little pricy but tastes amazing, I use it to make iced coffees and home made iced lattes. Stay safe!

Thanks for the great video! I've been really looking forward to going camping this year, and had an 11-day California trip planned out that's probably not going to happen until next year. I might get to do a shorter trip to Colorado, and I'm definitely going to ride out into the mountains a bit more often now that I know not to take it for granted. Technically, unimproved/dispersed sites are still available, but I'm not really into that level of camping. At the very least, I want one of those vault toilets to use, and I really like having potable water available at the site. I definitely like to sleep in comfort, and that dry bag for the full-sized pillow looks like it might make its way into my kit. I used to bring a full-sized inflatable mattress, but after a few uses, they start to deflate overnight to the point that I just don't want to deal with them anymore. Now, I just use the Klymit Static V, and they're comfortable enough to sleep on my side. For my footprint on my tent, I took a thick plastic painter's drop sheet from Harbor Freight, cut it to match the bottom of the tent, and then put grommets in it so that I could fit it to the tent poles. It's thin enough to fit in the bag with the tent, and provides some protection for the bottom of my tent. I've got a backpacking tent that fits pretty easily in my bags, but the primary reason I got a backpacking tent is the full coverage rainfly. If I'm on a longer trip, I'm probably still going to be in a tent if it starts raining, and I've been in one of those little family dome tents with the 2' x 2' rainfly during a downpour. I might also add one a mini backpacking tarp just for extra coverage over wherever I'm preparing my meals. So far, I've been using more or less the same kit whether I'm camping solo or my wife is going along on her bike. She just brings the stuff she needs to sleep with, and her clothes. Since we upgraded her bike and she'll have more storage space, we might start going a little bit more comfortable by getting a larger tent and getting even fancier with the food. I've actually got a small dutch oven that I took on a camping trip once so I could make fresh biscuits (from a tube) and cinnamon rolls (also from the little cardboard tube)for breakfast, but I don't know that I'll want to bring that much along again. I'm looking forward to more camping and traveling videos when all this starts to settle down!

My first bike is an FZ6 and I still have it and love it. It’s a 2007, EFI great price, prit near new condition when I bought it, I put about 14,000kms on it so far! Would be more but we get winter for a good 6 months a year, which is ok cause I Snowmobile for about 4 months a winter, love my 2015 Polaris Pro S 800. I think the rebel 500 is a great deal but I see in Canada that the street 500 is less money so I think it’s a good idea if you are buying new. However if you are going used i believe you can’t go wrong with an FZ6. EFI, great power easy to ride in town, 300kms per tank easy, I have done 1000 to 2200km trips easy on it. No mater what bike make sure it’s EFI!!!! Carbs suck! They did their time, they did well, EFI is the way now!

Hey Jess! Thanks for the 20% code. Your hammock will cost me $160 saving me almost 40 bucks. I've been wanting to try one of these hammocks by a different brand but they can't keep them in stock they sell so quickly. Just a word of caution on any tents sold at Walmart or bears the Ozark Trail logo, the materials used are not the best and quality assurance is a hit or miss proposition. I 've been backpacking, camping and hiking on five continents gaining experience and knowledge of equipment and gear made by various companies. If you use anything from Walmart just be wary and bring a back up item, even if it's just a tarp to back up the tent. A customer service agent at Ozark told a You Tube friend of mine that the tent he purchased was meant to be used in the back yard. Go to REI, Cabela's or any reputable outlet and compare their products vs any Target or Walmart offering. Camping should always be fun and inspiring; however, when your sleep is interrupted by water pooling underneath your sleeping set up or the wind, rain or snow collapses your shelter...the fun is done. The old adage applies that you get what you pay for. The three big items anyone new to backpacking and camping should invest in wisely are backpack, tent or shelter (tarp) and sleeping bag. Buy once cry once. You've done your homework well on your gear selection.
