What's up people, just wanted to leave a few additional thoughts here. I. I know some of you don't like sponsorships. Completely understandable, but right now it's allowing me to continue putting as much effort as possible into every single video. My videos now make around $100-200 per video on average on Ad revenue which is way better than before (and I'm pumped about it!) but that's still nowhere near a livable amount of money. My filmmaker friends would laugh at me if I told them that's how much I make. II. One of the best ways to help me is to spread the word! If you enjoyed this video, share it with a friend that enjoys books or is interested in exploring books again (thank you). III. Feel free to use this thread as a place to share more book recommendations. If you name a book, give a reason for why you're recommending it. Thanks for watching! I really appreciate the support.

Books aren’t restricted to nonfiction here, right? In which case: Turtles All The Way Down by John Green. This is my favorite John Green book, following the story of a girl that has OCD with an amazing journey. In my opinion, reading fictions help us to understand more about our feelings and humanity, that’s why I recommend this book. It’s a great peek into a whole other world for most of us.

You are a creator. Your medium is video and you post here on KZitem. Watching ads are a way we are able to pay to enjoy your creations. You deserve to be paid so please keep adding ads and sponsorships. I was never a reader as a kid. Now, I love it. Audiobooks are my favorite but I also enjoy actual books and find the whole process of holding the book and writing in and highlighting a powerful way to deepen my understanding of the book. (I too read a lot of self-help/learning books.) My goal for 2019 is one book a week. I just finished book #26 so I’m well on my way. One favorite was How To Win Friends And Influence People. I listened to it and now I’m going through an older edition highlighting, underlining and making notes. Powerful information. Thanks for sharing a part of your journey/growth.

I just can't get used to audiobooks. I find its much harder to concentrate on them. One moment of distraction and you are lost and its a bother to go back and rewind the audio and find where you were before you lost focus. When I read books its easy to just read back. Also it helps to focus on the book itself rather than getting distracted listening while doing other things.

You’re a man liberated from the system. I first felt that way when I was 14 cuz I took an year off from school thanks to a knee injury. I went through a journey very similar to yours. I learned to play the guitar by watching videos of others play on KZitem. I picked up martial arts and delved into spirituality and connecting back with nature. Long story short, I found a way out. But I was forced back into the system when I was 16 and I’m 19 now. I found your channel yesterday and you have sparked something in me that I needed... It’s still a bunch of sparks. Perhaps eventually it’ll light a flame. One that will grow into the one it was meant to grow into. You are one of the few personalities I’ve discovered who, I feel, will leave a lasting impression on me. You recognise a spark like that because it’s very distinct. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. Thank you... I need to take this opportunity. You’ve gone through a journey, more beautiful than mine. I hope to go through a similar one too :)

oof, I've felt that. Perfectionism is a double-edged sword in my experience. It pushes you forward but can also hold you back when the fear of not being perfect rears its ugly head. Use it in small doses when you can but don't be afraid to give "suboptimal" work. What you may see as flawed and half-assed might just be more than people were expecting. I've learned this the hard way throughout my schooling. If everything has to be perfect by an impossible standard you set, you'll get nothing done - not really. You'll get wrapped up in the tiny details and lose sight of the bigger picture. This is just my personal experience tho.

That quote also caught my attention, especially the word "loser". I really do not value the winner/loser mentality that seems to prevail in our culture. I believe it's detrimental and misleading as well, since a person can only feel like a "winner" in an (imaginary) juxtaposition to a "loser", in this case someone who is "average". What is wrong with being average anyway and who dictates what that is? I wish the focus in society was more on self-development instead of self-improvement, because self-improvement implies there's something to fix. Other than that I did enjoy the video.

Hitting the nail on the head there. I'm currently reading Essentialism as well, and it'll be the first book I've read in its entirety since 2016. Funnily enough, I still draw on books I've read as a kid for so much of my knowledge. My family still jokes around with the fact that whenever I used to make a statement as a kid, and people were to ask me how I knew that, my response was always "I read that somewhere". I've noticed that it's more difficult for me to really allow myself to be sucked into books nowadays, but when it happens, it's like I never stopped reading. My desire for knowledge has never left, but the mediums have shifted, and I'm glad that I'm starting to rediscover the beauty of paper again.

Growing up in the 70's in a very very small town in northern India, I had nothing for entertainment except to read books. I loved books as they took me far away into foreign lands that I could never even dream of seeing... ever. It got me through the mundaneness of a life that consisted only of school n chores. I can still remember the smell n the taste of the sea.. the feel of the sand under my toes.. n the heat of the afternoon sun on my back..the seagulls cawing in the distant all through the books.. and I had never visited Australia then, in fact didn't even know of its existence.. a country l later migrated to. Since the Internet, I have lapsed completely n not read one book through to the end n sad to say that in the last five yrs not even touched one. So yes I can totally relate. I completely agree with you on everything you said about books. They are your friends through thick n thin 😀😀😀

Hi Nathaniel. I love books, After a lengthy academic career of reading for school, I would spend the hour before bed reading for me. I've done this for more than 15 years now. I've amassed about 300 books in my library that I have actually read, cover to cover. Usually, I have several books on my bedside table, and in a couple of them at a time, depending on what mood I'm in when I hit my bed. Harry Potter was a life changer for me. I guess you know how many hours we spent reading all of the seven books. When I was a kid I was into The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe series. If you aren't reading something, you must lead a boring life, because books are life, and are a necessary piece of our growth in many areas. This video was spectacular and beautiful. Thanks. Greetings from Montreal.

This is such a great video! I feel quite lucky that I'm one of those people who's always found solace in books, especially throughout some testing teen years. Sometimes, though, I still find myself caught up in the digital world, and reading becomes less of a priority for me. I am able to figure out who I am through fiction, and this video has made me realise that perhaps reading less is where I started to lose my way. P.S. If you want a great fiction author recommendation, who keeps the magic alive both in his writing and in his worlds, I highly recommend Brandon Sanderson. Just saying :D

I love this idea of giving a visual montage to symbolize a book and how it makes you feel. I'm a fiction writer and read constantly and this is exactly how I think about the books that I love; the memory of a title or a book cover will trigger a stream of images that I've created in my own mind while reading the book and which stay with me forever. It's really clever the way you make that real through your video :)
Yep, that's architecture for you guys. Notice the difference of ceiling height. Once he entered it was much smaller than what it was ahead of him. That's the transition of a tighter space to a much bigger one. It even makes us feel small. Another feature it that when he had that one-point perspective not only did it amazed him, but also gave him a general comprehension of the space, thus legibility. Not to mention the astonishment, the surprise effect he had once dicovered that there was more bookshelves further on.

@@stonedagger2031 There's also some really good audiobooks out there! Like ones with full cast productions, and many books read by the author themselves give you just a little extra insight into the story just by their inflections at certain parts. And you can't read a print book while driving, which for a lot of people (like me) with daily commutes is a lot of reading time to just give up on.

@@erraticonteuse also unpopular opinion: even physical books don't smell that great.maybe its just bc the books i buy are all as cheap as i can get them and are from amazon but even library books to me don't smell that good.

I recently started reading books again after discovering Goodreads. At a time where my life is the busiest in a while, sitting down to read a book has given me that escape from life. So far this year, I have read 5 books in my 2020 challenge. I have recently discovered your videos. The quality and thought-provoking ideas are incredible. Keep up the good work.

I have been collecting books all my life. I find each book to be a small adventure. It makes me feel like I’m teleporting to a different life in a different perspective. I feel, even if it is fiction, it still teaches me important things and make me discover more of who I am. I am happy you found books again, and thank you for the recommendations I am always looking for new books to buy and read. Lots of love from The Netherlands💞

I can relate to this development from youth to now. Sitting down to read for me is a great way to decelerate and focus which sometimes gets lost quickly throughout a day or a weekend. Thanks for making these inspirational videos, sometimes to remind one whats there to choose from.

I recently got back into reading again as well. I agree 100 percent with everything you said. Before I say anything else I would like to thank you for sharing this with your audience. I believe that sharing books that you deeply connect with is a form of affection and such a simple yet powerful way of showing love. I discover a new aspect of myself every time I pick up a book. I struggle with expressing my thoughts into words and I tend to give up on explaining myself because of this. Every time I get back into reading its like my brain organizes all those thoughts and I am able to explain them clearly. Reading is an essential part of my life and has been the most effective way of helping my mind expand. I just finished reading "Aleph" by Paulo Coelho. His message can easily be interpreted in different ways to fit your personal life and really gives you a deep perspective on how to observe your thoughts in a more structured and positive way. The story is about his mission in search of self-discovery, he talks about his adventure when traveling the trans-Siberian railway with a young violinist, he realizes that he needs to travel back into a past life where they first met in order to reach this mission. Paulo Coelho is an amazing author and I am sure that any of his books will teach his readers to see a part of them they never knew was there. ( I clearly suck at summarizing but I promise you will not regret picking up this book or any of his many others)

You didn't rediscover books. Audible did. It's a market that has drawn in our whole generation. Audible controls what books we read. That's why we largely end up consuming the same materials. If book publishers controlled what you read before, Amazon controls what you read now.

25 now, and up until 6 months ago I hadn’t read a book in probably 10 years..recently rediscovered the joy of reading again, and I swear I’ve been to the library every week for the past 6 months to pick up new books, and I’ve even purchased 10-15 books after I read them.

Reading the books as the physical version (not the e-book) really keeps me more focus and develop thinking processes. I’m living in the new city with no internet connections at home nor the public. So, I’m taking this advantage to spend time reading more books. I’ve applied the free memberships for the city library and the university library. I’m looking forward to nurturing a new ME by literatures.

I recently managed to get out of my reading slump and have since finished 8 books since January. I have 4 books on my TBR list for March. Books are amazing, I just love how immersive they can be and how they transport you to a whole new world. Books has taught me a lot too! I will never stop reading. Thanks Nate for this awesome video!!! 😊

I had a similar experience earlier this year with vinyl and turntables. I used to collect a lot of music and the digital age has lost a lot of the fun of that. I bought a turntable earlier this year and buy a vinyl every month or so. I treat it as a mindful experience, sitting down to enjoy the album in the way it was supposed to be listened to.
