Since I was 17, I told myself I would own a Chanel bag before turning 30. After saving for 5 years, I went to the Chanel boutique and finally bought my GST. I've never felt so proud, I cried in the store. So at 22, I checked the number one thing on my bucket list. My heart sings every time I wear it. It's not just about the bag, it's more about the goal I achieved. Love your videos ❤

Andréane Bou lol so you saved for 5 years just to spend it on a useless bag, just because it has the tag "Chanel" on it, I understand where ur coming from but this is so superficial
@jessicamendez3486

One Chanel bag defines this girl's life? Aren't you the superficial one to judge her for one purchased item? That's as deep as you're willing to go in learning about a person before judging them? How do you know she didn't have other goals she accomplished? How do you know the fact that she was able to accomplish that one thing didn't give her the confidence to achieve other substantial things? We all spend many Chanel bags worth of money on coffee or eating out when we could of cooked in. She probably practiced discipline to skip these things over the course of 5 years to spend it differently. We all make our choices. Instead of congratulating someone on their discipline and success, you judge their personal choices.

Exactly girl, and this is what true saving and budgeting looks like. A real person with a real life income saves up for years to buy one luxury item but Lydia buys one luxury item every month. Unfortunately that's not realistic for 85% of us in the world. If I had $3-5k left over after bills every month, I wouldn't be watching this video looking for saving/budgeting tips.

The worst thing is people hating on someone who spends money on luxury products. I'm still in university but love spending my hard earned money on more expensive bags. People have to understand that not everybody with a LV, Gucci or Prada bag is a millionaire. I don't go out every weekend, I don't smoke and I try to save as much as possible. I am right there with you. I rarely go out to eat, I don't go out for drinks and movies maybe once a year. I don't go on vacations etc. My extra money goes for the luxury goods I love, whether it's a Burberry trench, or Gucci shoes, or a Chanel purse. When I get the jealous comments about my riches, I laugh, and point out the 10,000 dollar cruise they just took etc. Everyone spends differently, and luxury goods are my pleasure. I get pleasure everyday I wear them and enjoy them. My income, my choice, no apologies.
@valeriab.3669

I do respect people's choices in spending their own money, however, isn't this kind of lifestyle lonely? We don't go out solely for food or movie itself, that's a part of being social, getting experience and building memories with people that we like and love. As much as I appreciate luxury goods, I wouldn't want to sacrifice everything else out there to own them, just my opinion, i don't judge :)
@molly3900
7 жыл бұрын
I agree with this completely! A few years ago I used to never go out and spent my money mainly on possessions. I thought that if I exchanged my money for something that was immaterial, then I had wasted it. Recently, I realised that happiness does not depend on possessions as when you stop socialising everything else feels pointless. When you go out it is definitely for the experience or the company. You eventually run out of space for objects but you can have as many good memories as you like :) Whenever I buy something material now I always ask myself: "Does it have a use?" and "Is it really worth the asking price?"

This is great advice. I'm much older than you with a daughter your age. She's very successful because like you, she's very smart, ambitious and works darn hard. So, it saddens me to sense a kind of apologetic/"forgive me guys" tone to your advice. You young women out there work very hard! You're all clued up to everything and are fearless. With hard work comes sucess; whatever that is for you - a bag, a house or savings. Sadly, we live in a world where jealousy and poison exists. Don't let his deter you however. Don't apologise to anyone for your sucess. Those who can't be happy for you, it's their problem. All of you, enjoy the fruits of your labour, you've earned it. You young women ROCK! Best wishes. 👍👑👜👛👠🎓☺

Following lots of youtubers and bloggers makes it somewhat "normal" to own a handbag that costs several hundreds and sometimes thousands. Sometimes I feel like owning a Chanel bag has become the new normal, if you get caught on social media and want to replicate what you constantly see. Thank you Lydia for putting things into perspective. Thank you for reminding everyone that going into debt and getting everything right away isn't healthy, more bloggers should address this subject. I own several luxury handbags myself and love them but I would never go into debt for that. Saving is the key.

Lydia, I'm sure that you can also "write off" some of your purchases and your home against your income as business expenses. For example, if you show a luxury bag on your channel it is a business expense. Also, if you both work out of your home you can claim part of your home as a business expense against your taxes. This also makes a big difference.

This was a great way to introduce someone who is not sure how to acquire luxury handbags. I'm mostly impressed by how much you emphasize the reality of how people can unassumingly fall into debt by not taking the necessary responsible steps. This is honestly the first video that stresses that important factor. DON'T FALL INTO DEBT OVER A HANDBAG! Bravo Lydia. You are fantastic! A tip that I would love to share with you is I actually have a separate bank account with a different bank entirely that I have set aside towards savings for shopping. And once I've paid my monthly bills (rent, car note, etc) I take 5% of what I call my "free money" and deposit it into my shopping account!

Thank you for talking about financial responsibility in this video. I work a job where I discuss assets and financials with individuals on a daily basis and it is scary how little people save, how little people have when looking at the big picture and what they would need to survive if someone thing unexpected happened. I'm so glad as a youtuber you used your platform to discuss living within your means and spending money only if you have it because you are right, credit cards aren't free money. I love luxury goods as much as the next person but people (myself included) shouldn't be buying goods they can't afford, especially if you don't have any savings.

Lydia, this was an EXCELLENT video with some very sage advice... especially the part about not going in debt and being very responsible with your money. I, too, am a saver and save up for all the nice things I want. Because you are very conscientious about your money, I'm curious why you avoid credit cards... we all know there is no such thing as free money! I am a stickler and pay off all my credit cards each and every month, without fail!!! But, I only have credit cards that have no service fees and pay me up to 5% on my purchases. As an example, if you buy a bag for $2500, you would get $125 back! I find it's a very effective way to handle my finances. I put most of my monthly expenses on my credit cards so I can take advantage of the cash back rewards (if there is ever a charge for using my credit card, I use another payment method). I might as well get paid a little something for buying my groceries, paying the water department, etc. Because you are smart and strict about not going into debt, you might find using credit cards with a cash rewards system very beneficial as well. I'm curious to know if they offer these types of reward credit cards in the UK...

Lydia, your tips are so helpful and on point. We are constantly bombarded with the next it bag, the must have, or whatever item is on fashion right now and we instantly feel the urge to go and buy it so we can keep up with the trends. And, from a realistic point of view that is financially suicide when you are not born a millionaire or making tons of money. Thank you for taking the time to show the real behind the scenes process of acquiring a luxury bag.

Maybe in her perspective, the money she makes is not a lot? People who make good money and love high fashion usually strive for more because they are going after a luxurious lifestyle that only a small percentage can acquire. Therefore she compares her lifestyle with people who are wealthier than her, setting herself higher standards. She also places most her money in clothing, and If you notice, her house is not considerably large, and she often sells her old items to buy new ones. She doesn't have children, and she also receives free items from companies. She doesn't spend her money on expensive meals, electronics, parties, venues, vacations, or items she doesn't value. With wearing luxurious clothing, there are setbacks. In that, luxurious clothing doesn't exactly grant you that elite lifestyle, it just makes you appear to be a part of it.

Thanks Lydia. I'd just like to add my support for buying pre-loved. Not only is it less expensive, but you can also find bags that are out of production. Like you, I also sell on my unwanted items if they are in good condition.

Since finding your blog and channel my sense of personal style has improved. You have taught me a lot. I realized buying 10 things for $100 is not the same as one piece of $100. the point isnt cost but quality, fit, and longevity. I am 2 years older than you but I look up to you. Thank you Lydia. Keep up the great work you do.

Why can't people have nice things? I know many people have a go at me for what I have because they believe its a waste and I should help others with my money. Obviously I don't care what others think but the part that bothers me if when people have nicer things and are arrogant and proud about it. You can be tasteful in the way you carry yourself and rather than being defined by your possessions your possessions will be defined by you. Lydia I can say you are someone who does carry themselves tastefully and in a way that even though we won't have as nice things as you, we can still relate.

Lydia, this is a very helpful video. I have always wanted a Burberry trench coat and maybe one day I will buy it. I think I like traveling too much to be able to save money on it. But this video definitely goes with other things, like my traveling, as well. There were times when I spent all of my savings on a plane ticket - very irresponsible.

You should try bying the trenchcoat second hand! If you can get your hands on one from the 90s they literally cost the same as one from Topshop. But of course just make sure it is not a fake!

It's a bit weird for me to suggest this, but until you can afford the Burberry trench coat, maybe you could consider getting a trench coat of another brand first just to try and see if it's really for you (Burberry is such a lovely investment!). The reason being that I too, once, wanted to get a trench coat myself but after wearing one from UNIQLO for a long trip, I realised that the camel shade and the style of it just didn't seem to suit me very well, strangely.

This was so nice to watch. It's so cool to see how far you have come from then to now. It's easy to forget that you guys had to build what you now have and it makes me feel hopeful that all of the hard work my partner and I are putting into our careers will pay off someday. I have a few designer pieces that I love, wear, and take good care of I hope that someday I can have a wonderful curated collection. My partner and I recently got engaged so our focus is to move to a larger house and hopefully have our dream wedding next year. It would be very cool to see some sort of an updated version of this video.

I just recently started watching you and have been enjoying your videos. I thank you for sharing the importance of financial responsibility and being an example. You appreciate the more expensive items and design. I believe it was passed down whoever in your family was a tailor. I appreciate design so I get it. Great tips which are words of wisdom that hopefully everyone will follow.

Ok ,Lydia, I started watching your channel by sheer coincidence, actually I was following Ali first coz he is very handsome and has great grooming tips and also because both of your videos are immaculately done and initially at first glance it seemed like your channel was like any other fashion channel. But swear to god, I just love you guys now and lol you more than Ali. Honestly, you so beautifully bridge the gap between what it means to be fashionable without being a snob, what it means to live a high end life style not only in a limited budget but also with humility. And now this!!! this is so real...This video of yours has shut-up a lot of heaters who have judged you in the comments (I have been following those) about how you keep up with the spendings and life style. Ah, your just great and if I ever come to London (I live in Canada), I would love to meet you and Ali, if there is a youtube convention or something. Stay beautiful, happy and awesome! God bless!

Thank you Lydia for this video. I've made so many mistakes with my finances and I'm working on clearing my debt. Your tips were great. One thing I do is, I save my change. I prefer using cash because I'm limited to only spending what I have the cash for. Whenever I get change I put it in a container and take it to the credit union when it's full.

I found one of your videos time ago and I for me it is fun to watch them... I don't know anything about designers and I don't even want to buy those things, but like the way you talk and explain things... This is a really nice video and very responsible from you... Love the part when you say that you do not want to feel that people are getting debt just because they want to get all the things you get... This is also an example of how you can get what you want if you work for it, of course there people under circumstances where saving that amount of money is not possible, but that does not minimize your effort...

Lydia, I am confused on how you can talk about how you afford nice things, but don't disclose that the links to "what you are wearing" are affiliate links and that you will make money off of our purchase. I am concerned about this practice and being deceived on KZitem. As someone so genuine, maybe you can tell us about how you make money on KZitem. I appreciate that you use the word "ad" in some of your video titles - just what about all the items linked in your description bar? Thanks.
@Katrein

Allison affiliate links only work when you buy something through it and you don't pay extra, she just gets a percentage for having someone buy because she talked about it. No one but the selling website get less money because of this. She's supposed to mark it as affiliate (at least if she were from Germany she was, I don't know about the UK) but I don't think it's tricking her viewers in any way, shape or form
