nagaempress Me, too. The amount of stuff she brought home would cost me well over $100 where I live--closer to $200 even. The stores around here won't double coupons over .50 cents, and never allow you to get money back. Though, they will give you up the amount of the product, so you can get it free. But those are very, very rare. High prices and not coupon-friendly: that's how I describe the stores in the area where I live. :(

Before I made my recent move, I worked several evenings a week at a grocery store as a second job. If the shelves are empty during a sale, make a bee-line to the service desk and pick up a rain check. They are usually good at the sale price for anytime within the next 30 days. That gives you 30 days to fond the best coupon you can to add to that sale. :) Love them rain-checks!!

I love Ibotta! It was difficult to really get much out of it when I first got it because the rebates were always specific brands of things and I either didn't want to spend that much or the store didn't carry it. Every since they started doing more nonbrand specific and produce, I've been getting way more use out it.

Im really glad she mentioned Ibotta in this video. I have it, but honestly i havent used it yet. I wanted to know if it actually worked! Another one i use is Shopkick. It doesnt work with rebates so much, but you get "kick points" for walking into a store and separate kicks for scanning product bar codes. These kicks add up to money that you can put on a gift card. I figure im in there anyway. Especially when I am waiting for a prescription to be filled.. I just go around the store and scan bar codes.

We are a family of 3 with a little one on the way. To save on groceries and help to save to for the baby I came up with an every other day method for dinner. I make enough so we will have leftovers. This is an example of how it goes: Mon-Spaghetti Tues - Casserole Wed- spaghetti leftovers Thurs - casserole leftovers Fri - Tacos Sat- Taco Salad ( using taco leftovers) Sun- soup and sandwich Sunday Sunday is always our soup (canned) and sandwich Sunday. A day to relax and clean. So in a week we only cook 3 times. It saves on $$ for groceries.

My sister is amazed that I can shop once a month and only spend $180 for myself & my cat and that's after my coupons are deducted. Great ideas! I don't do a lot of couponing (and the stores here don't ever do double or triple coupon days) but it's definitely a misconception that eating healthy is expensive. It's actually much cheaper. Just shop on the perimeters of the store. Produce, bakery, meat, dairy, and eggs. Only go into the center aisles sparingly for dry pasta, rice, etc. This is how my Asian immigrant did it. Another tip... eating organic is great but some people don't know that some things are not worth the price. Chemicals don't permeate things you peel (bananas, oranges, melons) so if you're going for organic on a budget, invest in lettuce and things that are only rinsed and eaten whole and raw. Also, how much do you really save by going meat free once a week? Where I live, ground turkey is only $2.77 a pound... and you can easily feed a small family with a pound of turkey in creamy pasta or vegetable soup. Is going meat free really worth saving two or three dollars?
@lisabeishline578
9 жыл бұрын
UhTheeNuh89 Yes, going meat free is worth the savings for some people. $2.77x52=$144.04 and that savings could be the equivalent to groceries for a week, or 3 months cell phone service, or 3-4 months of internet service, or maybe $$ to a car payment. So it all depends on how you look at it. It's an easy & simple way to save some money for something you need.
@Alambamabomnshell
9 жыл бұрын
UhTheeNuh89 Here in Alabama we have seen the price of meat go up drastically. For one pound of ground sirloin was 7.98 and the meat that is anti-biotic free is 9 dollars and some change for just 1 pound. We went to the Piggly Wiggly and bought their meat and as it cooked it smelled just like ammonia so we just threw it away.
@lisabeishline578
9 жыл бұрын
Boss Lady Lauren I would have taken it back to the store for a full refund. If they refused to give a refund, I would contact the Dept. of Health and see what they would do. Some people aren't as smart as you are and would have eaten it & gotten sick especially if it were a young child or elderly person. I don't buy a lot of red meat because it is very expensive. Instead, I buy ground turkey & I also buy whole fresh turkeys around the holidays & cut them up myself & vacuum seal them for the chest freezer to use year round.
@Alambamabomnshell
9 жыл бұрын
LISA BEISHLINE I should have. I live out in the boonies and it takes a while to get to any store so when I go, I expect the food to be of quality. I think that's a great idea about the turkeys. I think I'll look more into that. I need to make meal planning that works for us because I have an auto immune disorder and somedays it's hard to even shower so having something in the freezer that was prepared would lift a lot of worry off of my shoulders.
@lisabeishline578
9 жыл бұрын
I always stock up on what's on sale and it's easy to throw something from the freezer into the crockpot because I cut it down into meal size portions before I freeze it. I'm not a serious cook & I live alone--I like to keep it simple--meat, fish, or poultry, vegetable & salad, and usually rice on the side.

I do use coupons, sales and ibotta but our stores here in Arizona no longer double and I do not remember them ever doubling $2 coupons. Most of the stores out here will not give you cash back for your coupons either. Boy I would clean up if they did. I really miss the doubling.
