I have recently returned to cigar smoking. When I was 17, 18 I was a nerdy kid, the swot, didnt rebel at all. But I loved rap music, so deliberately started learning about cognac and cigars to seem cooler. Back then I'd buy like a reasonable Cuban for like 8 quid from a wine shop before a night out. I never stopped loving cognac but had a break from cigars that has recently ended. Discovering all these channels in the process!

@@CigarSmokerUK I know! I think my first cigar was an Upmann, or a RyJ, but dont remember what size. But i wont have spent more than a tenner on it. Prices are crazy now. Im trying to navigate the value for money aspect of the cheaper Cubans and new world cigars, which is where reviews help to no end :)

Firstly: it's good to hear why and how you started to get into your hobby, it covers quite a few years timespan all in all. I think many, myself included, would just have the occasional cigar for a special occasion, or at New Year, without really indulging - but then an event, a chance encounter with someone who knows more about the subject triggers off a more serious interest. In my case it was the opportunity to spend a couple of months in Havana; as you can imagine, that's when things started to take off, humidors and cigar paraphernalia were gradually acquired and the rest is history... Secondly, congratulations on the video this time, it's a real improvement: nicely framed, the background not too cluttered, image has some depth, lighting is subtle and complements your reflective mood; the sound is absolutely clean. Worth all the extra effort!

Thanks mate, I spent time thinking about the frame this time, although there is a plug in the background which is annoying. Thanks for your advice. Great to hear about your experience as well, living in Havana must have been great 👍 Thanks for watching.

Love videos like this. It's always cool to understand why and how people got into cigars. Who doesn't enjoy a good story? I found it refreshing (being an American) to hear that you spearheaded a UK only cigar group too. I can't really explain why, I just appreciate the honesty. Seems like today, any form exclusivity is automatically considered a bad thing. Also love the idea of a bunch of Brits chopping it up together. Do you guys 'oye' in writing too? Hope your sense of taste and everything continues to heal and trend in the right direction. This yank is looking forward to more reviews :)

As far as Countries go, I'm a Black American, with surname of Bacon. The UK roots are definitely present in my history. Various friends first introduced me to cigars. I prefer to smoke 1-2 times per week, accompanied with a nice bourbon. The minimal weekly smoke allows me to justify buying better smokes, often Cubans. I favor your channel, as your flavor profiles are similar to mine. I currently have Hoyo San Juan's, Rio Secos, Romeo Wide Churchills in my 50. H Upmans are a preferred factory.

Sitting out on the back deck this morning, crisp air, coffee in hand, and discovered your video. Really great start to the day. So appreciate you sharing a small part of your journey. My journey has just really begun. Grew up as a kid with my dad smoking the occasional pipe or Winterman. Always loved the smell of actual tobacco. Have started my own collection of sticks now in the last few weeks. Not a cheap recreation or hobby in Australia. Taxes and excises make most cigars $40-50 a go. So not a daily past time for myself but one a week absolutely. Thanks for posting your vid. Subscribed. Enjoyed the content and enjoyed your disposition. Blessing from Australia. Great video. Those cigar selling forum were a great resource. They went - one by one, but offered a good range of HQ cigars at a decent price. The sellers were always trustworthy and never greedy. From what I understand, the cigars were sold by regular overseas travellers. No coincidence, I suspect, that such groups were infiltrated by UK cigar retailers, irritated by the fact they can get cigars cheaper than they could from the UK wholesaler.

Hi Dunc, enjoyed this video, never underestimate what you do. Where do you buy your cigars? I've only recently got back in to cigar smoking, I'm more of a sunshine cigar smoker, I like nothing better on a sunny day sitting in my garden with a nice cigar on the go for 30-40 mins. I've recently purchased some cigars from USA and despite them landing at Heathrow on 21st April 2022 I've still not received the 7th May 2022. Is it usual to take this long.

Hi Duncan, I ordered cigars from a US retailer in April, they arrived at Heathrow on 21st April but I've still not received them. I called Royal Mail who are the carrier at this end having been transported by USPS from States, and guy from Royal Mail told me because they are cigars Royal Mail do not transport tobacco and my cigars have been destroyed. I then informed him that I also buy cigars from UK dealers and Royal Mail deliver them and he had no response. Are you aware of this Royal Mail Policy?
@CigarSmokerUK

They will not have been with royal mail if they are still at Heathrow. I'm sure they will just be in a queue of stuff to be processed. Sometimes you just have to be patient when ordering from abroad.

Good to hear about your cigar journey - interesting to listen how different people got into cigars. I personally used to smoke cigars every now and again and have recently got more into it - I think the lockdowns were probably the catalyst and I’m now at the point of needing a more significant humidor,rather than my desk top and my multiple Tupperdors ( used for boxes) - my biggest issue is likely to be getting a large humidor past the Mrs without her being overly inquisitive 😀 (particularly regarding the cost of the hobby!) Keep the reviews coming they’re great!

My reasons for cigar smoking are a bit strange. Quit smoking in 2013, always promised myself a cigar every birthday, Christmas, whatever, but always forgot. Depression, covid, bereavement, and an interest in the whole cigar culture got me started. Only smoke a maximum of one cigar per day, post my gibberish daily on Instagram 😂 Gave up on gatekeeper forums and FB groups years ago, so do my own thing 😃

54-y/o US'er here. I got the impression you're not amused by US'ers? From my interaction w/UK'ers, it seems that you guys are quite muted, not terribly expressive, much more private. When I asked sev'l people where to find things (like a toilet in the underground by Leicester Sq.), "everyone" (including a bobby), said to find it in L. Sq. And just directions in gen'l ("walk around, you'll find it"). Overall, this was vague & "unhelpful." In the US, it'd be "go out & go about a block; can't miss 'em!" or "It's about 3 blocks down. Have fun!" I'm not sure why US/UK'ers are so different. I guess we have to be so expressive & helpful b/c there are so many cultures here (we're 356+M ppl so we're "trying" to get along...!). Another talk for another day, I guess. I was truly horrified when an aiport guard raised his voice at my taxi driver (also British) -- you guys aren't supposed to talk like that!! :-)
