I did a 13 months backpacking trip around the world for about 23k in 2011. I paid 1400 bucks for flights from Lax > Quito, Buenos Aires > Cape town, Nairobi > Cairo, Cairo > Athens. I booked on a world traveling site. I then booked the rest of the flights on my own. Lots of buses and trains. I spent 3 months in South America: Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay. Highlights: Galapagos, Machu Picchu, Hiking Patagonia, Salar de Uyuni, Iguazu Falls, Perito Moreno 3 Months in Africa: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Egypt (and a jaunt to Jordan) Highlights were: Sand dunes in Namibia, Safari in Tanzania during the great migration, all of the ruins in Egypt, Petra, biking next to giraffes Did 3 months in Europe: Greece, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Amsterdam, England, France, Wales. Highlights was Oktoberfest, train travel, Florence is a the most beautiful city every, beaches of Normandy, all the history and the easy train travel. 3 months in southeast asian: Thailand (saw family), Vietnam, Cambodia Highlights: All of Thailand especially the islands. Koh Tao is awesome. Food in Vietnam and Ha Long Bay, Angkor Wat. 1 month in New Zealand. This place is paradise. Cheers.

Is (most of the) spend still from all those points you still have from all those college bills?
@TheTravelLane

I graduated a little over a year ago so my points earning now is not from college bills but prior to graduating, I was using my day-to-day expenses such as rent to reach my signup bonuses. I was not using tuition to reach bonuses though. The college bills did certainly help my points earning

I would never spend $50k on a trip like this. (Maybe $3-5k at most, and probably save 20+ hours of planning as well.)

Yes indeed

Of course very few people would choose to spend $50,000 on a trip like this. But it is still what it would have cost. International business class and 5-star hotels aren't cheap 😂

You are correct, LAX currently does not have any routes on the new ANA products. I flew it back in December before they changed the aircraft on the LAX-HND route.

I forget the exact total off the top of my head but it was around $1,100 for me and around $750 for Jessica I think
