Great video. I just time myself with a stopwatch/ timer and then put my time in on polylogger. Theres less details like active/passive listening. But it is very quick and easy. Also nice to see people with the same or other languages and what they do to learn.

Doesn’t seem to. I’ve tried to download apps like Automate, which might do it, but the program is very confusing to use, and not simple like the iPad, or iPhone at all.

I get the point: you've created several projects for the same language, split it to different skills (Active Listening, Active Study, Reading, Writing, Speaking) and set all the same color. Could please tell me the meaning of Active Study, what does Active Study include? How do you separate skills, like reading and listening the same time?
@tbenavente

Just wanted to highlight again that my system is tailored to my learning style and priorities, so you don't have to copy it if doesn't make work for you! Many people just use reading, listening, writing, speaking and mixed as their categories, for example. For me, I differentiate between active study (actually studying vocab and grammar) and immersion (consuming media in the language - podcasts, tv shows, books, etc.). Immersion includes active and passive listening, as well as reading. I have separate projects for active listening (listening to audio or watching a video where I am able to understand most of what's being said) vs passive listening (when I don't understand what's being said, so I either rely on subtitles or just listen to train my ear and get used to the language). I don't have speaking as a separate category because it is not that important to me personally, while reading is super important, so I have a project for that. Finally, active study for me is when I am studying vocabulary or grammar with a textbook, app or a tutor, regardless of activity -- it could be reading, listening, writing or speaking. Hope this makes it a little clearer!

I gave up on trying to track with technology (well, besides a clock and timer). I found that using just a notebook and tallying up everything at the end of the week is what works for me. Granted, I am only studying one lang at the moment so that makes it easier.

Unfortunately Android users do not have the luxury of these automation applications. Cool idea but I didn't find any automation app for Android that served this purpose. I'm Apple's number 1 hater but I have to admit that this time Apple beat me. 🥺

This is great. One question, how can you make Toggl run in the background when tracking? When I automate, the toggl program pops up and hides a portion of the screen on the ipad, and you don’t seem to be able to minimize it, or slide it over.

How to track the same way how much I spend time on a particular website, not the app? By just tracking safari is not an option.
@tbenavente
Жыл бұрын
I suggest you follow the same steps I did for Duolingo in this video (starts at 8:25), but instead of Duolingo, you choose Safari. Then set up the websites you use frequently as menu options, so every time you go on safari, your phone asks you which website you are going to be using

One question more, do you use the same account for different kind of activities? I've thought that maybe I should seperate languages and other activities, but it must be annoying to log out and log in all time.
@tbenavente

I only have one and, as you said, it would probably not be very convenient to switch accounts all the time. Plus, I'm not sure how I would set up automations if I had multiple accounts
