I used to have a pigeon that I found after she fell out of her nest. She was too young to fly and I had to hand feed her for a few days until she figured out she could feed herself. She came to me when she felt like it, nothing like this. I had her out with me in the car once; and, when I stopped for gas, she got impatient, jumped out the window and flew away. I had never caged her; so, I knew she might want to take off some day. As it turns out, she was at home waiting for me when I got back. I know it was a she because she laid several sets of eggs, all infertile. Being free like that, she was a lot of fun and companionship.

Lovely story! I handraised a white homer 5 yrs ago...I had to pull the baby 6days old from the nest box, because she had injuries being bullied by the flock....I named her Rosey. She flew the 1st day Mothers day. It was special. I owned a candle business since 1998. I brought her to the shop at 9 months old to be in a commercial for the shop. I tossed her and said, "spread your wings today and fly to The Candle Cottage" ...she flew right back to me as always, but I had to go inside to finish commercial. I ..left her on the porch... could kick myself for doing that....I thought i'd only be a second. I went back out and she was gone... to this day people still message me thinking they saw Rosey....I had flyers everywhere. I was so sad to have to drive home without her....I get home and wanted to lay my hand in ...her coconut shell bed and pray. When I put my hands in the shell to my surprise she had laid 2 eggs. It was mixed emotions. I was sad she was gone and for the 1st time confirmed she was a she...I think someone took her, because she would never leave my side. Today for the 1st time opportunity i am picking up 2 ...1week old baby Homer's. I am ready to try again. Keep in touch on my youtube channel. I will be posting and vlogging our journey. ❤💃🕊

Starting a pigeon family isn't always the best idea xD Pigeons eggs take 3 weeks to hatch, 3-5 weeks to raise the baby, and then they start all over again, so 2 pigeons chicks every 6-8 weeks, that's about 15 pigeons a year! (and those babies get fertile when they're 3 months old...). You def need to birth control pigeons if you don't want to be flooded with them :P
@animalobsessed1
5 жыл бұрын
@@spacebug30 That's why people buy fake eggs to replace the real ones with. That way the pigeons can feel like they're starting families, but you won't ever have to deal with any actual babies.

I think it's good that she's a free-flight bird, the only problem I have with this video is that one of your dogs chases her when she begins to fly. I know the dog is excited, but this could potentially stress her out and cause her to fly in another direction and get hurt somehow.

I also had a pigeon at home for 34 days, from around 3 weeks. He had a bad leg; was limping, but I cured it with plant minerals and Diatomacous Earth. I also took mine out with my bike, at first in a basket on a cushion of hemp material, as he limped, but soon he sat on my shoulder or head. We always went to a huge park/old cemetary. Mine did not want to fly so much, he flew back to me every time or sat on a branch and looked unhappy. He was afraid I would abandon him. There were no pigeons in the park of his kind, so I had to leave him with cliff pigeons in the city one day when I tought he could fly well. He went to them at once. I left him crying, I so love my little baby. Now when I go see them and feed them seeds and water, he comes to me every time he is there. He sits on my head, in my knee, in my jacket and I talk and sing to him and cuddle him in his neck. He is still my baby but free now with other pigeons. It is a stressful life for them with children who scare them all the time and people who feed them white bread, lack of food all the time so they eat it. all thos wonderful birds need help to be able to forage and live a good life. The government don't care what happen to the pigeons. They listen top the lies spread in the media that they are dirty etc.

This is EXCELLENT!!! Though since Pigeons have their homing ability, would this technique work for Doves? Like Ground doves and the normal Ringneck dove? I've raised my Ground doves ever since they were an egg and now they are 5 months old, I've trained to them to come to me indoors but when I do this outside in an open area, they fly away and don't come back, I've only been managed to find them and bring them back home but they don't really listen to me? The doves im talking about are in my channel. Awesome videos as always, can't wait for more of your videos

Alibaba Telfer I think you can do this with only domesticated pigeons and doves. Wild pigeons leave you after a while. I tried also with wood pigeon but if she was strong enough she left me, this is the way of nature, they belong to the wild.

Hi there, I've raised (or I am raising) a wood dove who fell out of the nest. It's hand tame, is learning to eat independent, I'm still feeding although I estime it must be about five to six weeks old now. It pick up seeds but drops them again.... Thanks for sharing this video, it gives me more insight to what is possible. And yes predators like falcons and cats of my neighbors are the main problems... Hope it will survive once I let it go... and come back. As this video is two years old, I hope pencake is still alive and kicking :) Have fun. One quick question, what are real treats for pigeons beside seeds ?
@Boborjanbobo
4 жыл бұрын
Wood pigeons eat worms too. They eat bud from tree and small green plants from ground as well. They need small peaces of gravel time to time for the digestion. Good luck with your pigeon :) P.S. : Yes Pencake is really well. She is 6 years old now and enjoy her life with me.
