I was there in the pvp warzone in ESO, I felt like another solider among dozens of soldiers on the field, I still remember everyone mounted on horses riding together stampeding towards the next tower. I remember 1 bit in my guild, everyone had a good laugh. I told them how I had finally hit the level cap, it took so long but I did it and was proud. They ask me "How long did it take you?" The answer was 250 hours and everyone was SHOCKED with how long it took me, they asked me how could it possibly take me THAT long? I told them "Well I was questing right? And there was a resource node, and another, and another and before I knew it I was on the other side of the map. And there the skyshards, and making a nice little home." They all laughed but understood. My easily being distracted actually made me one of the master craftsmen in the guild long before I hit the level cap so that was my journey. Honestly I actually enjoyed the leveling journey as I never felt like I was playing the game wrong. Not like WoW where I often questioned if I was doing it right. Did I pick the right professions? Talents? Am I really satisfied with my race? My outfit? In ESO I only felt that for when I wanted to try doing serious dungeon stuff, which is normal.

What makes the game especial to me is that the endgame is the whole game, the moment you start your adventure that is the game, you can enjoy the game the way you like, become a thief, do dungeons, quest, play the card game, craft, every major system is available from the start and everything feels rewarding because you start unlocking more and more things organically, it never feels like a second job.

I've put 4.5k hours into ESO, and it's been so amazing for so long, but I've recently switched to WoW since I like dragons and the new DLC dragonflight was on sale so I decided to give it a go. And jesus, the difference is astounding. There's obviously a massive difference but my main thing which I instantly noticed, the game actually encourages mount collecting through GAMEPLAY unlike ESO which needs to just shove every single stupid mount into crates, leaving 1 SINGLE MOUNT per CHAPTER locked behind a pretty tough achievement not to even mention how they're usually just recolours of crown store mounts.

I've gotten tons of mounts without havung to buy a single crate. I have ESO Plus and for the 16.00 I pay for it I get 1500 crowns. So it actually pays for itself. With those crowns I can buy crates which often will give me a mount,or I can save them for a couple of months and buy a unique mount. Also I get mounts sometimes from a quest. So,mounts are easy to get without "every single one" being locked behind a crate. Some are but you can buy a lot of them or win them as well. You dont just get them given to you.

A few more points to add, ESO has fewer abilities on your ability bars than in most other MMO's but the abilities are more impactful with you having a higher chance of using all of your abilities in combat. So instead of having rows and rows of ability bars but only using a fraction of your abilities, or having numerous abilities that provide tiny buffs that you have to keep active at all times you have fewer abilities but they are all impactful, the buffs are more impactful and sometimes passive just for having the ability slotted. Abilities use resources (Health, Magicka, Stamina, and Ultimate) to cast with some abilities restoring certain resources. Also, abilities never become irrelevant. Skills you unlock at the beginning can be just as relevant in the endgame as they were at the beginning so you have a lot more good choices when it comes to useable abilities and builds. Similar to how you mentioned player choice and skill lines, this means that not everyone is choosing the same skills, in the same rotation doing the same thing as everyone else. There are so many different variations on how you can play the game and every class can be configured to be either a Tank, Healer, or DPS so if you started out in a class that you thought would be great for a Tank but then decide you would like to switch to DPS then you don't have to make a completely new character to do that. A continuation of that is how armor is handled. Yes, the three armor types all have passive stat unlocks that make them more appropriate for different class types with Light Armor being more geared towards magic users, Medium Armor more towards Stamina DPS, and Rogues and Heavy Armor more towards Tanks. However, the Set Bonuses for set items are arguably as important if not sometimes more important than the armor passives. So you have Heavy Armor sets that are geared towards DPS or Healing, Light Armor sets that are geared towards DPS or Tanking (yes, really) And Medium Armor sets that are geared for all kinds of things. Magic Users don't have to change their entire playstyle to Tank since every class can fulfill every role and you can just equip a Frost staff and a couple of abilities to tank just as well as a sword and board. The point is that you are never shoehorned into anything. The downside however is that along with all of these content updates come a lot of constant changes to gear sets, abilities, and classes. It seems like no sooner have you got your gear fully upgraded to Legendary quality and got all of your skills leveled that a new patch drops that might force you to redo your entire build, depending on the type of content you play. Granted this is a lot more relevant if you do PvP or Endgame Raiding than if you do PvE and Roleplaying but it's still annoying.

But some advice to a new player, give your self a focus goal and accomplish that. either play through the alliance quest line first or try to reach 50 on your first char. once you are able to get some accomplishments under your belt then try to "delve" into the crafting system and try to play the market for gaining gold. iv been paying for the subscription since day one and i have no problem with this. @@jontaii152 There's no such thing as a perfect combat system. They're all polarizing. Some people love turn-based, some hate it. Some people are fans of card-based combat, others would rather smash their hand in a door. Some love grid/tactics combat (Fire Emblem), others think it's the worst. For ESO, it's polarizing because it's quite distinct. Does it have pros and cons? Yes. Some say the light attack weaving is a flaw, while others say it adds depth. That's just how gaming is, and how it will always be. Could aspects of ESO's combat be tightened up, or refined? I'm sure so. But even with those touch-ups, it would still be polarizing, because no combat in any game is ever going to make everyone happy. ESO is just...it's in a different sort of position than most MMOs, because its combat is quite different from the standard. People go to it expecting one thing, find it's different than they may be used to, and perhaps they like it, perhaps they don't. It has the wide-audience appeal of being an MMO, but...while not being a typical MMO. So its combat maybe alienates some players, while others find it refreshingly unique. I feel like I've rambled too long, and my point has been lost. Sorry. Everyone calling it animation cancelling makes it sound like you’re cheesing the game or something. Back when it first launched players started actually animation cancelling to do this but the devs took what the players were doing, embraced it, and built the combat system today around that.

i am an ESO player since the beginning, i played on it's 1st day of release, and then i did quit just before they release Morrowind, and i didn't play again until recently when they announced Necrom, so i did completed the base game progress ( VR 14 as they called it back in the days ) And the reason i quit was probably the base game didn't had much content, but after around 8 years, i finally returned due to the new Necrom news, and suddenly, i had a around 5 expansion worht of content, and it just reminds me on why ESO is just good. I am mainly a solo player on ESO and ocasionally having fun in Cyrodiil with my fellow Dominions, and what really hooked me for the past months is just basically the lore of this MMO, it's second to none!

I really want to love this game. The setting is immersive and engaging, the exploration is rewarding.. but the combat is so easy. It's near impossible to die against anything while exploring the vast world. I mean I can leave the keyboard and wait and it's going to take a few minutes for the mobs to kill me. Meanwhile, I kill them with a few attacks in 4 or 5 seconds. I need a minimum of challenge to stay engaged in a game. I had to pass on this game because there is just no challenge for 99% of the content. And the 1% that is challenging is end game content that takes forever to reach. It saddens me because I feel like this game really had huge potential to be great.

2:35 This is entirely untrue. Once you hit about 600ish CP level almost nothing in the open world will present a challenge aside from certain world bosses. This is one of the biggest problems with ESO. It's like they designed the level scaling system to work with post-50 horizontal progression but ESO doesn't have horizontal progression, it just has a secondary vertical progression that's account wide.

If overworld content is really that important to you, no one is forcing you to spend your CP. Remain a vanilla level 50. I still get so confused when people talk about how the overworld becomes trivial at max level. That happens in literally _every_ MMO. The only challenging content at max level is the content that's specifically designed for max level, i.e. vet dungeons, trials, etc.
@marco1941

Scaling doesn’t give you a challenge everywhere, but makes the game feel all flat and less memorable. I love ESO for its story, for its openness towards solo players, I love, that everything is voice acted, but you actually can just sleepwalk through the game, maybe except for bosses of a 4-player dungeon (as a solo player). It doesn’t take players seriously, it keeps you in your comfort zone all the time and still tells you, you’re the great hero who just defeated a huge threat for the world. I like, that you can choose, in which add on you want to start or play next, but inside one of those chapters, they should make a more noticeable character progression and the combat more challenging, at least more varied. Despite that, there are two things I don’t understand in this game: 1. in which case would anybody - especially in a SOLO FRIENDLY mmo - like to finally get to the boss of a dungeon, only to have other players suddenly appear and do all the work for you? Dungeons should be instances for the group of players entering them together (1 - X) ONLY! 2. Why isn’t there a auction house - again, especially in a solo friendly mmo? The one thing I’ve always loved about mmos, even while being a solo player for the most part, is the auction house in those games! Why would force people to be in a guild, that expect weekly gold from you, for that, so that I, as a casual player, won’t ever be able to be in such guild, because I won’t ever play continuously enough for that? Those design decisions pretty much ruin it for me. Even WoW is implementing AI dungeons, you can solo, so these will be a better experience than the ones in ESO.

There is one very simple thing that makes ESO just not fun to play: Constantly slamming LMB. The only way the game is playable is with an auto-clicker, because the combat is derived from window-wiper, extremely bland gameplay of "slam LMB until it's dead".
