Thank you for sharing your story. I enjoyed hearing it. I learned to crochet 42 years ago, when I just 10 years old. My fifth grade teacher taught the entire class to crochet granny squares so we could make granny square pillows for our grandparents when they came to the school on Grandparent's Day. I fell in love. There was a period of about 2 years when I couldn't crochet because of the pain it caused me. I have had rheumatoid arthritis for 28 years and I haven't known a pain-free day since. My husband and I moved to Japan in 2015 for a period of 4 years. I was lonely, missed the English language, and needed something to do, so started searching for crochet podcasts on KZitem and crochet groups on facebook. This rekindled my love of crochet. I found Hooked on Sunshine, like you! I made 4 Atlanticus blankets, a Lilliana blanket (I think that's what it's called), and a Sunshine Mandala blanket. I crocheted SO many things while I was in Japan and gifted so many of my makes to friends there and family here in the US. I have to be careful not to overdo it, but it brings me so much joy. Crochet makes me happy.

@@melissachapman499 oh Melissa, Thankyou for being here with us, Thankyou for sharing your story, which has some similarities to mine, it’s always nice to know someone is similar to ourselves, it reduces the loneliness doesn’t it. You have done amazingly with all those beautiful blankets. I’m like you, I don’t have pain free time, ever, so I crochet regardless otherwise I’d do nothing & that’s no life is it. I too have to pace myself and I’m ok with that, as long as I can keep creating the joy from our crochet 🧶. I’d so love to see your blankets, I might have to do a video & give you all my email address so you can send photos in that I could share on here with everyone 😉👍🏼😁🧡🍃

Good morning Jill, it's been so lovely to hear your back story of how you got here. I found crochet about 8 years ago now, I'm self-taught and watched KZitem videos to help me on my journey and I still do watch videos. I work full-time but crochet is what I do to relax and I love it, I fall down many rabbit holes on a daily basis 😂. Your Atlanticus blanket is beautiful. I can't believe that was your first blanket, and I love your colour choice too. You're definitely a natural for sure. You've found your people, as we all understand what you mean. If you know, you know 😀It's warm and muggy here today in the UK and I'm sat in my office/craft room (I work from home) hoping that it won't get too hot. Happy crocheting and have a lovely day xxx

Thanks Jill for another great uplifting video. ❤ I thoroughly enjoyed listening, and absolutely love your two beautiful blankets. My story is similar in that I hadn’t crocheted in 40 + years since my boys were babies. I realised about 12 months out from retirement that I would need something to do once I finished work, and like you, I started with blankets. The first one was a chevron for my daughter in law and the next was an arrow stitch for my niece. I thought I would never finish them, but amazingly, I did, and while they were not perfect, I did a pretty good job. I googled how to do the stitches and learned from watching uTube just like you. I eventually found Insta too, and the rest is history. 👏🧶
