This is the best video I've found to show the entire process. Creators like you make KZitem worth browsing. 👍

I typed everything in the video for u guys doing hw and stuff: 1.Mold making, we begin by making a silicone mold of our ring design. 2.Vulcanization, the master inside the silicone is heated up under pressure. 3.Several Hours Later… the silicone has become hard and rubbery. 4.Cutting the mold. The master ring is cut out and the mold is separated into two halves. 5.Wax Injection. Melted wax under pressure is injected into our mold 6.Cooling time. In about a minute the wax has cooled and can be removed from the mold. 7.Wax tree. Rings are attached to a wax spruce to form a wax tree. 8.Mass Production. We can cast many parts on a single wax tree. 9.Investing. This process will encase the wax tree in a plaster-like substance called investment. 10.Setting. Investment hardens in about fifteen minutes 11.Burn out. The wax is burned out leaving a cavity in the shape of the wax 12.Casting. Molten metal is poured into the flask 13.Casting. Molten silver is poured into the hole where the wax had melted. 14.Tree of rings. We now have a tree of rings ready to be clipped. 15.Grinding. The rough edges are ground off. 16.Polishing. Our rings go through a series of mechanical polishing processes. 17.Walnut shells. This is the final polish where the final shine comes from

Oh my god you have no idea how much trouble videos like this saves me. I tried to make jewelry in my basement for six months using improvised methods. I tried so hard it broke my relationship with my girl. I wish I had known then what I know now. With a little better equipment and techniques I could have been making my own settings and e-baying the shit out of some jewelry a long time ago.

Could you list the products you used from start to finish? I'm interested in doing this myself, but I'm at a loss for all the products required for each step in the process. Thank you.

I just purchased a Cadting Kit from Otto Frei in Oakland. Ask for Amber. Tell her Sherry sent you. But if you haven't had a class in this process. I promise it will n not work. There are properties about casting that are intense and long . Its not easy and its very expensive. Good luck.

Somebody please explain how a metal tube (or sleeve) could be made with this method. Wouldn't the wax model of it be a solid cylinder? Wouldn't the plaster mold of that produce a solid metal cylinder? How would the hole through it be duplicated?

What I'm curious about is, when you put the wax on the base then filled it with investment, do you take the base off when it hardens? If not, where does the wax drain to?
@gemdash62

chittychad18 it burns off! hence the name 'lost wax'

gemdash62 I figured it out earlier. I didn't know the Base was taken off. It doesn't just "burn off" it melts and drains.

We use plastic cones in our tumblers that we run water with, its pretty abrasive and really them takes down to a rough polish quickly.

i thought i saw some flaws in the final product, too. do you suppose putting the investment in a vacuum chamber first would take out the bubbles?

ryan barker yes. I dont have a vacuum and just put it on a running car engine and it works fine
