My grandpa would sit with his buddies for hours and they would play euchre, drink Hamms beer and eat raw oysters right out of a one gallon plastic jug. I will never forget that. A few of them would give it a few shots of Worcestershire sauce before slurping them down, but they were always raw. They finally got me to try one and I could not get it down! Like trying to swallow a large luggie...and not even your own! I threw up and they handed me a Hamms to wash it down. Now THAT i was able to swallow, and thus began my beer drinking life.

@Swinship

How do you know plants feel pain? i was not aware they had pain receptors?
@worldclasspervert
10 жыл бұрын
They do not, at least not in the way humans do however, tests show that plants react to stimuli from various sources such as ripping of a part of them. Much like animals, plants detect the "pain", but unlike them, they do not express it in sounds, or alteration of functions. Also, there are plants that have what could be considered a "nervous sistem" in the stem. Obviously, this is an area that is still under study, and it is heavily debated as to wether plants do feel pain as we understand it or not. I only posted that because the original post was easily one of the dumbest things I read that week, including 4chan.

***** Don't we only feel "pain" to know we're getting hurt, and to get away from what we're getting hurt by? Even if plants do have nervous systems, and do "feel" "pain", it's probably not in the...painful way we do. It's probably either some kind of pressure, or maybe not even some kind of touch sensory. Maybe it's just a message to tell the plant "Hey, you're gonna die soon...peace". It wouldn't really make any sense for plants to evolve to get hurt when they "feel pain".
@worldclasspervert
10 жыл бұрын
That... is somewhat what I typed. So yeah, you're right. Thing is, even the fact that they feel something is object to debate, so at most the experts will agree that there are signals of "something" but to tell the truth, fuck all if they know exactly what.

They're also likely triploid oysters incapable of reproducing. Because when they don't focus on reproduction, they grown bigger and then you have the type of oysters that people like to eat. They also look prettier. The wild ones are smaller and greyish instead of white. Okay to eat though.
