How do you feel about Jessi Hildebrandt's journey of healing?

Jessi is absolutely fantastic at explaining really complex ideas and feelings. They speak so eloquently as they walk you through the therapies they've used and how those affected them. I don't think I will ever forget the interviews Jessi has done since this story broke, and they have become someone I really look up to and respect. I am SO glad that they are thinking of going back to school to work in the mental health field, because I believe Jessi is going to make a huge difference in many people's lives, as they have already by telling their own story. Jessi is a HERO.

One of the things this video reminded me of was that often clients are just as knowledgeable as us clinicians. They are living the experience and using these skills on a daily basis, that's something that doesn't just get taught

Thanks for sharing this part of Jessi’s interview. So much of it resonates with me as an ex-Mormon. I’m still in the hyper independence phase and intellectually bypassing my emotions is a reflexive. One result though is that I have extremely vivid dreams and nightmares. It’s like all the emotion I don’t feel during the day is felt while I dream. Dream Alea only has big feelings and does no intellectualizing. Needless to say, I don’t get much sleep, so, feel your feelings people! You’ll sleep better! Any chance we’ll get a video with you speaking with a colleague who does parts work with clients?
@Therapy2Day

Ah I guess we get the big feelings somehow even if we would prefer not to I would consider it. I use some elements of parts work, but don't call myself an IFS therapist because I don't have the official certification. If you have some names to send my way, I would love to contact them and set something up!

She is sharing something horrible that she has gone through. Could have been prevented by her parents or in her first attempt to escape. With the arrest of Jodi and the mistreatment of the children, she has created a venue not just herself, but for so many others. I would hope more could step up to share their experiences. Was completely engrossed in Adam Steed’s own story. Incredible.

Could you talk more in another video about your approach to helping clients work through resistance around somatic processing? Being raised in the Mormon religion, we are taught women’s bodies are inherently sinful, and for many of us we develop a sense of repulsion toward our body as a result, which leads to feeling disconnected from sensations and recognizing physical needs. How do you as a therapist help clients with complex trauma feel their feelings?
@Therapy2Day
6 ай бұрын
Oo that's a really good topic! I will think on it. It is tough because that's where there's a line where I need to recognize the barriers they are personally feeling while encouraging them to push themselves towards healing. When that's tied up with anxiety about your body (with some clients I've had) or religious trauma, maybe there can be some examination of beliefs about the body beforehand and rehearsal of breathing exercises to practice nonjudgmental awareness of just how your body feels. That's my short answer, like I said, I'll think on it more and maybe we'll talk about it in an upcoming live?

I'm a fan girl for Jessi! They are so smart and I pray that they follow up on the schooling she needs. Mormon Stories actually directs all donations for their site to go to Jessi, to help her with the schooling they need and I do think they have looked into it and has a pretty good idea as to what is required. I hope I didn't miss any she's, I had to go back and change all the shes to they. I don't normally give this much thought but I respect and admire Jessi so much that I don't want to show disrespect.
