As the American torpedo boat PT-109 patrolled in the Solomon islands on the dark night of August 2nd 1943, a Japanese destroyer loomed out of the shadows at point blank range. Before the boats captain, Lieutenant John F. Kennedy can react, there was a shattering collision. PT-109 was cut in half, scattering the crew and starting a story of survival that would make Kennedy a war hero and kickstart his postwar political ambitions.
