How Long After Dying Person Stops Eating and Drinking Until Death #hospice #dying
End of Life Signs and Symptoms
When a person is dying, it is normal and expected for the dying person's appetite and thirst to decline. The dying person will eventually stop eating and drinking all together. This is a natural part of the dying process as the body is shutting down in preparation for death.
Many families ask me "when a dying person stops eating and drinking, how long will it be before death?" This is both a complicated and unknown answer. But in this video I'll do my best to share my experiences caring for and being with people who are dying and how long (on average) it is before a dying person dies after they've stopped eating and drinking. Please be aware this is my experience as a nurse practitioner, previous hospice nurse, and death coach. This is not fact nor medical advice and should not be taken as such. Please refer to the hospice or healthcare provider caring for you or your person.
