That is incredibly well balanced. Every gyroscope I ever owned would fall over in a minute or two. Well done!

Superb! All the play value of a Japanese top in the edo koma tradition, but in modern design and materials. Finding the right balance between play value, visual design at rest, visual effects at speed, desired spin-down behavior, and spin time is the fundamental challenge in top design. This top definitely hits the mark. Also enjoyed the suspense. Couldn't see exactly where you were headed with this top until 8:55.
@Lalaland.001

it would make the 10 minute mark if you could somehow make it detach from it's top part. Because it makes it top heavy and create air drag, making it run slightly off centered, the square top part also limits your rope length, making it topple earlier than it should have to. I think it could even add as much as an additional minute if you could figure out a way to loose it. Still this is an amazing feat of precision machining, thank you for sharing.

Since it makes noise at full speed there must still be balancing issues.
@Nevir202
6 жыл бұрын
MsSomeonenew it’s not really possible to balance the bearings, there’s always a tiny bit of slop (or lash IIRC) in them, and thus the little cube they are mounted in is going to run slightly eccentric.

Cube was unnecessary, just added air drag and limited the pull string

It would have spun longer if it didnt have a Cube thingy on top wich is slowing down the roation. There may be a ball Baring in between but even then as we saw friction alone made it spin along. And Friction in the Atmosphere thanks to the Flat surface of the Cube thingy slowed the overall rotation down.

man thats impressive and your top is beautiful but i bet it would spin longer if the spinning jig at the top was more aerodynamic. A cylindrical jig with smaller holes perhaps. id like to see what % of improvement could be had but i do like the idea of the top being a one piece situation.
