Thank you for this post. You have brought the issue of how much weight I should use back into a proper perspective for me. The bells that I have are sufficient for my skill level.

I have 2×8s, 2×12s, and 2×16s which are more than enough for my 10 minute timed sets 6 days a week. In future I plan to add 2×20s and 2×24s as my skills and abilities improve. I don't want to be plagued by tendonitis and joint problems. Thanks for your very sane advice.

I have just 2 kettebells, 16 and 24 kg, and it is perfect for me for the moment. I hesitate to buy a 32 kg too because the 2 arms swing start to be easy at 24 kg (a heavier bell would be interesting on the goblet squat too). 2 or 3 kettlebells, it is a good number for the majority of persons in my humble opinion.

Next bell to get would another 16. Then you have 32kg to double rack squat, deadlift, double swing, press etc. Then another 24. Watch this kzitem.info/news/bejne/s4iisIp_oX9pqKw

Good advice! I have 2 x 12, 14, 16 and 1 x 20. Most of my gym time is with the 12s, but once a week I get all 3 sets of bells out and do amraps (2x2-3x16; 2x3-5x14; 2x10-12x12) for 2-3 sets of LC or jerks then finish up with as many snatches at 16 as I can get.

Thanks Joe, as always great insight. I am fairly new to Kettlebells but just as a personal target I would one day love to work with really heavy kettlebells. But in the short time I have been kettlebelling I have learnt to be patient, luckily my Qi Gong really helps with injuries. This is the only social media I do, I have been tempted with Facebook to keep up with you guys but at the moment it's just not me maybe when I am a bit older. Thanks mate keep up the good work! John.

I would suggest buying two 16s, two 20s, one 24 and probably one 28. In my opinion, that amount of weight is pretty much enough for anyone. I mean, do a set of snatch into reverse lunge with 24 ten reps each side four sets. You would be out of breath in no time. Or do some sots press with two 16s. I thought it would be easy, but I barely managed to do 10 reps. In conclusion, I believe those 6 kettlebels are essential

So my background is primarily in powerlifting and I got up to the point where I had an 1100 pound or so total. I got a 32 kilo kettlebell after working up to 10 sets of 10 with my 50 lb kettlebell being pretty easy and it felt insanely heavy at first. I managed to get to a 10 x 10 kettlebell swing with the 32 kilo kettlebell in under 5 minutes. I went ahead and bought a 48 kilo and I think that will be the last one I buy. 25 lbs, 35 lbs, 40, 50, 70 and 106. I'm still new to it though.

Ive got 8 through 24 in steps of 4. I use the 16 most of the times, 24 just for squats and get ups. Also, dont by the cement filled ones, i made that mistake and boy do I regret it. The 16 and up are cast iron though, which is fine. Im saving up for some competition style kbs.

I have 2x12, 2x16, 2x20, 2x24, 2x28 & 2x32kgs. However if I was worried about cost or space, I could have just bought one of each. If you're doing double kettlebell exercises just use say a 12kg and a 16kg, and do even numbers of sets, alternating which arm holds the heavier. It's only 4kg difference, so you're not likely to injure yourself, and you might even work your core as it struggles to stabilise the inequality of weight.

@@kettlebellmusclegain I've lifted weights for years. When the lockdown started I decided to invest in some weights for home. I considered dumbells, or adjustable dumbells, but with kettlebells you can do a half decent job of imitating a dumbell, plus you can do a lot of things with a kettlebell that you can't with a dumbell. When this lockdown ends I'll still have the kettlebells at home to do a quick cardio/strength session to supplement my regular weight training. If I'd bought a bunch of dumbells, I'd just be duplicating some of the equipment I have access to at the gym.

"A lot of people think kettlebells are very expensive. You get a whole lot of bang for your buck with kettlebells, so I don't think they're very expensive." If I went nuts buying the most expensive bells in pairs, I could spend about $3000 on 20 or so kettlebells. Over 15 years of workouts averaging 2 hrs/week, that's under $2/hr. And that's for a pretty generous collection. If you don't buy more than 2-3 bells over 24kg - a reasonable limit for many of us - and only get duplicates of 4 weight sizes, you could get a versatile set for half that. Relative to the benefit, they're a small expenditure. By the time I'm done with my Goldilocks 20kg bell, it will have cost me pennies per hour of use.

Hi Joe, I'm a beginner and considering Vulcan Competition and Absolute Strength kettlebells. The Competition, as you know have that bare steel handle, while the Absolute Training have a powder coating. Any advice on which to maybe start with, a kettlebell at like 35 or 45 lbs for 2-handed swings? I'm leaning toward the Absolute Strength but wasn't sure.. I assume the only downside to the Competition bells is that they may be more prone to rust if not cleaned enough/properly? Sorry to write a book here.. Thanks!!

Hi. Can you help me out? I'm fixing to restart my weight loss journey. And am putting together a space in part of my man cave to do my work outs in. I don't have much experience useing kettle bells but I have used dumb bells to perform kettle bell movements. I figure kettle bells are most versitile and best bang for the buck. I'm a 300lb male 5'9" and am trying yo figure out the right weight kettle bells. With logical thinking and being budget conscious. With me normally useing 25lb dumbells would you think it would be a good idea to go up in weight and get 2 35lb bells for super body and get a 50lb bell for lower body work to where I could build my self up to these weight and not need to buy more for a while. TIA
