There is a professor at the University of West Florida in Pensacola (if you went to school there or live in the area you likely know who I'm talking about) that has crossed the half million mile mark with his first gen NSX. He has daily driven it since he purchased it new. My senior year, I had two courses with him. We talked cars pretty regularly, & I remember him being upset that the factory head unit finally quit working. He was hellbent on replacing it with a NOS unit because he wanted everything on the car to stay original. Pretty awesome!

It seems like high mileage NSXs are the norm and not the outlier. A Ferrari or Lamborghini from the same time with six digits on the odometer is a rare find. NSXs can take it. Also, that's pretty cool to have a professor that drives a NSX and has driven it since new.

I used to see the car almost daily, but i think he might be driving less as neither he nor the car or spring chicken these days. Never spoken to the man directly but for what I've been told it's never had a major engine out repair? It really wouldn't surprise me honestly, however I don't think the car is/was ever hard pressed with track duty. There's also another fellow who lives in the north of the county whom is a very gifted driver of the old air cooled 911s. I'm not going to call the non-turbos widowmakers or Doctor Killers but they are DEFINITELY worthy of being called fool-makers and lesson teachers) he had a rather quick old 911 I used to love riding in him with when I was younger, I know that it was a hopped up 2.7, they're not a 2.7 SC I don't believe. Anyways I was absolutely amazing how fast the little 9/11 was, and as impressive I was at 15 years old with the 9/11 and the Euro Spec 308 I loved, the old man was just as blown away with an NSX he had just purchased. Nothing much more fun than hooning around in a 1g NSX with an old gray-haired racing driver who had zero fucks left to give lol. Grew up around cars, spent my life around cars, and always saw the NSX as a budget exotic. Then I got to ride in it a few dozen times... It was definitely a budget exotic, just frankly just shy a few horsepower. Nothing a nice positive displacement setup doesn't cure with proper throttle acumen still intact!

It seems like high-mileage NSXs are the norm and not the exception. That's what made the NSX great. It was built like a normal car. The engine keeps going and is relatively inexpensive to fix. Everything in the interior is where it's expected to be. It had cargo space. Try daily driving a Ferrari 348 or Lamborghini Diablo and see how much trouble it is. The NSX is still a good-looking and good-driving car.
