Thanks for the shout-out! I'm finally back so I can start catching up on these recaps. I'm definitely enjoying this series with its whole "how far can X Pokemon go" premise and I also like organizing information like this, so as long as I'm available I'll definitely keep doing it. And with that, without further ado... SPOILER for quick recaps... ... ... Politoed: Sleep strats make things easy enough against both Bugsy and Rival 2, albeit with some Doubleslap luck against Bayleef. PASS Poliwrath: Sleep strats still OP, and Submission makes Bayleef much easier. PASS Poliwhirl: Sleep strats still good against Bugsy, but Mud-Slap support is needed against Bayleef as well. PASS Poliwag: Sleep gets through Bugsy, but advanced Struggle strats and some good luck are needed to get past Rival 2. STRUGGLE Golem: Absolutely rocks the Bug gym, but needs luck against Bayleef, whether it be a turn 1 Poisonpowder or a Razor Leaf miss, and then a Rock Throw critical hit. PASS Graveler: Gets one-shot by Bayleef's Razor Leaf, so too much luck is needed to get past it. FAIL Machamp: Mud-Slap provides a way to damage Rival 2's Gastly, and then it can power through the rest of his team. Bugsy is a lot trickier this time around, requiring Focus Energy and a fair amount of crit luck against Scyther. PASS Machoke: Rival 2 is still easy, but Bugsy requires Struggle strats to do enough damage, and not getting poisoned by Kakuna. STRUGGLE Machop: More Struggle strats needed, with some luck from a Fury Cutter miss from Scyther, and Rival 2 was harder too. STRUGGLE Alakazam: Kinesis helps against Bugsy in getting Fury Cutter to miss. Rival 2 is trivial. PASS Kadabra: See Alakazam, with some help from confusion. PASS Victreebel: Sleep strats still OP even with 4x-resisted Grass moves, with some assistance from Sweet Scent for reliability. PASS Tentacruel: A limited moveset of Poison Sting, Supersonic, and Constrict means even the well Rockets are tricky. Poison and confusion luck are needed against Bugsy, but Rival 2 requires too much luck with confusion to get past. FAIL Tentacool: Auto-FAIL Rapidash: Absolutely roasts Bugsy, and Swift and a bit of crit/move choice luck gets past Rival 2. PASS Murkrow: Easily pecks past the Bug gym, and it has too much power for Rival 2 to deal with. PASS Final Results: PASS: 10 STRUGGLE: 3 FAIL: 3 Bonus: Jumpluff w/Confusion: Finally has a way to hit Gastly, which makes Rival 2 a joke. PASS

Hey just pointing out a skill that might be helpful after your transition from gen1 to gen2 challenges: since in gen2 you don't have the waking up turn anymore, it might be helpful to count the opponents sleep turns! In gen2 you have at most 6 sleep turns so if you're against a faster pokemon and it has burned through 6 sleep turns, you can click a sleeping move the following turn since it's guaranteed to wake up there and you won't have to take one more attack to put it to sleep

I wonder if tentacruel with like… 7 poison stings and 5 SuperSonics would work. Basically if you could manage to take out the Bayleef before struggling, that would be the ideal scenario. That said, the strategy would still be horrifically inconsistent, but there might be a middle ground that leads to a moderate chance of success.

I have a thigns i wanted to adress, but i dont know if there are good reasons they are the way they are, since i am only recently starting to watch this channel. One would be in regards to the layout. I think that the things that are there are all useful, but i am often more interested in the current moves a pokemon has even before a battle, rather than the moves it can learn or the exact way the score is made up. I dont know how that can be moved around, since the camera is already not always on screen, but i just wanted to mention it. The second mention is the exact mention of the exact stat totals before the arena fights. Most people including me, dont really understand the damage formulas enough to actually care about the exact stats the pokemon has at any point, and if we do care, its already in the layout. I would be more interested in how specific stats are important for specific fights. Like how a speed stat might be enough to outspeed all of bugsys pokemon, or none of them, or just some of them. How maybe 40 def is rather high and might make fury cutter not hit as hard, or how 20 def is rather low and might make the pokemon very fragile. How specific numbers in the attack stats make the pokemon a mixed attacker, a physical attacker or a special attacker and how that works well, or bad with the opposing pokemons defensive stats, and the pokemons own movepool. Just a few things i thought about while watching. I dont want to come off like want you to change anything, this is your content, do it how you like it.

I've done a 0 EXP run of Crystal before--Tentacruel absolutely wrecked house against the Elite 4, due to being caught at LVL 34, and getting Candied to LVL 41. It soloed like 80% of them! With that in mind, I think it's worth redoing the Rival 2 fight, since it IS at least possible--Tentacruel will get Blizzard at Goldenrod and Surf before Morty, so it's all uphill for it

You should do a recap for every section when you finish going over which trainers knocked out which pokemon, ie jesse jr knocked out these pokemon, bugsy knocked out these, rival 2 knocked out these, you could make a ranking by the end of the series of the hardist trainers. Great channel!

Golem might have a decent chance against Rival 3 if it gains enough levels to outspeed. Otherwise it'll probably be a retread of Rival 2. But Golem's result bodes very poorly for my boy Rhydon. Slower than Golem so he won't outspeed, and 20 points lower BST in Special Defense, plus having fewer levels...I think there's only ONE possible chance. Rhydon has to use Fury Cutter, set up on the Gastly, and then hope that either Bayleef uses PoisonPowder or Razor Leaf somehow doesn't OHKO. The online damage calculator says it should be possible that it won't if it doesn't crit, but it's so jank for Gen 2, the stat values don't match up (I assume it's always taking max stat experience) so I have to play with the values to get them to match what the game says, and hope that that's an accurate reflection of the game. But a max power Fury Cutter SHOULD be a one-shot, if Bayleef doesn't Reflect. (I'm pretty sure Rhyhorn is SOL.) ...Wait. Sweet Scent actually carries. If Sleep Powder hits more reliably you have a MUCH better survival rate. You might want to be keeping that one on for a good while.

Watching Poliwag, I think the winning combo with Poliwag is max sleep turns + no razor leaf from the bayleef. It does just enough damage to get through without getting hit if the bayleef decides to poison on that last turn, and Zubat is pathetic enough that even struggle should be enough. (And it was!) It seems to be in the realm of about 1% to get to Zubat?

Do you ever decide to go against crocanaw with rock or ground pokemon instead of bayleaf? While golem did scrape by bayleaf it would have been way easier against crocanaw because water doesn't resist ground. Magnitude is a way better move than rock throw on average, so it probably would have been a 2 hit ko without a crit/miss. I think graveler would have failed either way though.
