Congratulations on your recent nuptials. Dorpers are originally from South Africa. The originally breeds used to create them were the Dorset Horn and the Blackhead Persian (hence the name Dorper an amalgamation of the 2 foundation breeds names). The breeding program that created them was started by the South African Department of Agriculture with the help of a small number of private breeders in the 50s. Hope that helps if people are interested. We run Dorpers ourselves here Down Under. They can really pack the pounds on in a short time frame which can have the lambs ready for weaning and sale faster. Its not unusual for the the lambs to be ready to go by the age of 3 months old. And the Maternal instinct of the females and their milk processing abilities put them way ahead of a large number of other meat breeds. They can be bred out of season (Polyoestrus) so 3 lambings in 2 years is not unheard of,. They also have a Higher Worm Resistant and are also Non Selective grazers and feed converters (Poor grazing into meat). And they have the added bonus of being self shedding, so no shearing required.

I have never been queasy watching a video, all the spinning around really got me. I know you were trying to get through them quickly. I would rather have a longer video where you could share more of your knowledge and focus a bit more on more breeds. I love learning from farmers like you who have such a vast knowledge of what you farm. Thanks for spending the time to do a video on this show!!

@@CowleyHillFarm Not sure if it would have been better but maybe more time with the camera reversed pausing on a pen before moving on. With camera angles a few breeds were missed. Was it a good night had prior? You pretty much had the patter, just not the camera work you normally have. It’s not easy to do in that environment with people about and needing to get on, so appreciate the effort 👍

Congratulations on your marriage and also upon reaching 10K subscribers! I correction for your video. At 9:09 you mentioned the polled Dorset have lambs 3 times a year. I think you intended to say 3 lamb crops in 2 years. Gestation is nearly 5 months. Great video and again, congratulations!!

Congratulations on your channel milestone! 🎉 In the USA we call the males rams. I first heard the term "tup" from Cammy Wilson, so you know I was a bit confused. I figured it out. Great overview of British sheep breeds! The number and variety of upland sheep at Yorkshire is incredible. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the sheep breed lecture! I especially liked the part about wool production versus meat production. Are there breeds used specifically for milk to make cheese?

Will your Video was good. But you rushed this Video of the different breeds Sadly. You forgot the Two Sheep breeds that were most influenced in the Sheep World . And they are Romney & Southdown tho . A 1 hour Video would have been better . Kiwi Shayne in the UK .
