Fun video. I've spent some time in Cairo and various other parts of Egypt. I was worried about my backpack or wallet being grabbed when a bunch of kids gathered around me begging. But a store keeper said, don't worry, they won't steal anything. I asked why? And he said they don't try because everyone would yell thief and they would be grabbed and beaten! As a child, in the mid 2000's, my family lived in Egypt for 2 years, my mom and I went to Khan Kahlily old market and my mom's flip phone (😁old school) got stolen out of her bag in a cafe and we only noticed once at home far from downtown. 2-3 weeks later we went to the same cafe and the owner came carrying my mom's phone, they found it under the table where we sat, probably just fell. Egypt has a bad history of thievery, both for visitors and the people living there. Throughout the 20th century, millions of priceless artifacts were illegally looted from the country during both war and peacetime. In contrast, many items *stolen from OTHER countries* eventually wound up in Egypt’s upper caste of wealthy individuals. Even back during the ancient times, Egypt was notorious for thieves, scammers, highwaymen, and thugs looking to rob you blind.

@GabrieLight

@@shane4429 Would you see “basic human manners” at every poor life conditions country of the world? Did we see that back in the day when European people live poverty? Well, let me explain something to you, religion is called Islam (Torah, Bible, Qur'an) are all books and messages of Islam, some got distorted but not Qur'an, it's saved. Religion in Middle East countries despite the poverty, poor life conditions and secular regimes, still has a big influence in morality and live of people, unlike the Western world or some countries of Africa. That's why you should understand nature of people in these area before you talk with hate against religion. And try to learn what's Islam teachings instead of showing us how much ignorance you have. Search and read, it's not that hard.

Don't worry a theif in Egypt has to worry about two things, police officers and normal citizens, because if there is in no police in the area, the theif would have to think 100 time before taking a step, because if normal citizens caught him stealing, it would be the worst day in his life that he will wish police officers come and save him from normal citizens 😂

Entrapment as an investigation method by law enforcement is generally illegal in the U.S. May I ask why people who aren't even cops feel it correct to do this to people in under-developed nations with high incidences of poverty? For example, the high price of Air Jordans in the U.S. coupled with poverty led to a child being murdered in the 90's. Take from that what you will. It was a tradgedy as far as I'm concerned, and why I warn groups like this that what they're doing is not only borderline illegal, but also places them at immense, unnecessary risk.

@justinlavine9209

@@superchet4026 From my experience in the U.S., the police, the courts, the juries, and the general public seek to prove the innocence of the criminal offender. Their are few if any protections for the victim and even fewer avenues for the victim to seek redress. It's why criminals are rarely prosecuted or found guilty of their crimes in this country. For example, sexual assault, identity theft, and cybercrime are rampant in the U.S. at the moment. That's in addition to American special interest groups inciting civil unrest every other day. Unfortunately, these kinds of crimes are increasingly being broadcast & coordinated using the internet. It's one of the reasons why videos like this concern me.

@@justinlavine9209 well he is not doing this for free now, innit ? Baiting poor people in a crowded market at the expense of ruining the country's reputation for content is nothing short of despicable. And on top of that, it wasn't the outcome that he hoped for. He'd have better luck doing that in LA and New York 😉

I lived in Egypt for 10 years in my youth and again from 2018 to 2021 as an adult. Never got my phone stolen and I forgot it a couple of times in malls or in shops in the freaking souk (where you'd expect it to disappear!). They only ask you to describe the phone and when they give it to you, to prove it's yours by unlocking it. One owner of a tiny shop held my phone for me for hours. Truly, people complain about tourist scams but from my experience Egyptians will try to sell you the goods at the highest value possible if you enjoy playing the clueless tourist and don't know how to haggle but they never actually steal from you. It's all part of the experience and how you understand and deal with the locals. If you get along, you are welcomed with amazing generosity. They really are the best ❤
