Fun fact: The fact that Alla Turca (Turkish March) was inspired by Turkish jannissary bands, was (re)discovered by Nisan Ak, a young Turkish orchestral conductor and a researcher of classical music at the University of South Carolina.

It was so helpful. Thank you. But Makam is not turkish, it is from persian traditional music, which was made by Baarbad, the ancient persian musician from Sasanian Empire.

During Mozar's lifetime/stay in Vienna the Ottoman border was far away from Vienna. So I'd say that the statement that he spent most of his time on the cusp of the Ottoman empire's teritory is quite wrong. And the (second) Siege of Vienna happened 100 years before he came to the city. That is several generations before he was even born.

Very interesting! But why did Mozart, a German speaker from Austria, give Turkish March an Italian name, "Rondo Alla Turka"? I know he wrote operas in Italian, but this piece has no lyrics. Maybe using a Latin-based language gave it more international appeal, or maybe in local Austria it had more of the exoticism you described.
