That cost is why I was always thrilled to just make the show with Comp Cams super dirt and get a top 10 or 15 with my 3 year old car, 7k engine, 2 sets of multiple race used tires, non adjustable shocks, and just me, my dad, and 1 or 2 helpers. But now they let shocks and aero get so out of hand that I don’t think that would be very possible these days.

@@russelldevane5434I got a job where the schedule was impossible to make racing work. And also in my area Supers all but died apart from the comp cams series, racing a couple times in west Memphis and Harrisburg AR wasn’t worth keeping up with it. They replaced all the supers with crates on the weekly level and I’d rather just quit altogether than race a crate car

LOVE the content on the super late models. I knew it was extremely expensive but I think a million is actually low because if teams are starting out, they have to get a toter home and trailer plus gas and maintenance for it plus insurance for not just the toter homes but gas and tires in case of a blowout. Plus extra parts and whole engines!! It's truly ridiculous not including the crew at home and the crew that travels with the race car. It truly adds up quickly but it's so worth it. DIRT TRACK RACING is the BEST SPORT ON THE PLANET ESPECIALLY SUPER LATE MODEL'S 🏁🏆🏁💞🤗💞🙏

To me, he sort of has a point with the 5k and 7k to win purses. When I first started going to dirt races (July 8th, 2000 at Tazewell Speedway) it was a Southern All-Stars show for 5k to win. That was a regional series, not even a major national and things certainly cost more now than they did then.

Cars in the 80s cost 1/3 of what they do today, they could be involved in a minor wreck and keep racing. They didn’t require huge sponsors to be able to afford to race. Many were “sponsored” by the service station owner /driver. The racing was closer than it is now, just as exciting and the ticket prices were much cheaper. The cars looked like real cars and didn’t heave over in the ridiculous way they do now. Rear wheel steering was done with the throttle not some convoluted rear end contraption that will be destroyed if it touches another car.

In the grand scheme of things super late model team owners are like weekly racers in the sense they do it because they love racing and do it for fun knowing they won’t make money. Maybe break even some nights. They just have more money to play with.

What it boils down to and i love these cars and still in my head i want one but the sky high costs of the cars themselves topped with the costs per night to run them are what is killing them. Im here in western ohio and you dont hardly see any late mods, its all super stocks and modifieds. The average joe that used to be able to afford a late mod is dropping classes so they can actually afford to race

Justin, do you have contacts/info to discuss the costs of operating at a more entry level? Since these cost videos are quite interesting, it could be interesting to look at the prices for more... "attainable" equipment/programs. Sort of on that note, one thing I've been curious about is the buying/operating costs of a 305 sprint vs a crate sprint vs a limited sprint like the Pacific Northwest runs, and why it seems some areas stick with one of those over the others even when nearby areas run a different formula.

sounds about right i was thinking a roller cost was closer to 75,000 to 120,000 depending upon which chassis you went with. with alot of teams being at a loss as far as winnings go how are they coming out on there taxes is alot of it just a tax rightoff for the owner and do they come out ahead due to taxes ive never understood that i know racing like hobby stocks is considered a hobby and is a write off does the same go for these big race teams if so does that not mean they come out ahead come tax season ?

I'm actually surprised a team like Viper who hasn't had a good year at all with decent sponsorship will break even on operating expenses. Dirt racing is probably the only form of motorsport left where the teams can make good money if they consistently run up front and have good sponsorship. None of the NASCAR teams are profitable. Hendrick Motorsports even loses money. Jeff Gordon said they haven't been profitable in years.

@@lancejohnson5748 Yep, you do have to run up front for sure. But I'm just surprised with as bad a year Viper has had they're actually pretty close to breaking even (on operating expenses) with just their race earnings. They've barely run the top 10 this year. All the NASCAR teams came out last year and said they haven't turned a profit in many years. You can probably run a top dirt late model operation on 10% (maybe even less) of the annual budget of a NASCAR Truck team. National DLM and WoO Sprint Cars are the best bang for your buck for motorsports team owners.

HTF needs to rethink Drive Off. When is the last time they have come back to the pits, with 3 bald tires? Until they put on fresh stickers, and blow the left rear because of running it past the cords, they won’t figure out Drive Off. They need to let Jorden take over the setups. Young man reminds me of Rumly.
