Great insight!! Most important thing in my opinion, is growing personally and as a musician. Chasing money isn't why we started playing in the first place. Developing musically and pursuing personal happiness should be the first goal. Subscribed!

Great story and true for a musician anywhere. The biggest rewards are usually earned by hard work, determination and perseverance. The deepest parts of life are experienced along the path, there isn't really a time when it all pays off in a huge way; we always have to be pointed at tomorrow. Sounds like you recognized the little everyday joys during your professional journey and that has encouraged you along the way.

Everything you're saying is true, with over saturated markets, and music now being called things like "product" and "content" a musicians only option is visibility, and DIY. Great channel!

Music is an ever-changing industry with people always pining for the "good ol' days". I try to focus on what IS coming instead of what WAS. You always have to be fluid in this industry. It's exhilarating and exhausting all at the same time!

I've been reading Tom Jackson's book about how 90-95% of income comes from live shows. He said investing in that is the biggest pay off above record sale/recording etc. It's pretty interesting.

@@AaronChaseDrums honestly appreciate it man. This is all a puzzle of a career and I’m trying to put it together while barreling down the highway at 90mph! If nothing else, I want my peers to know… this shit is hard, so don’t feel bad if you get overwhelmed! Hell, that’s me 99% of the time. One thing I love about Nashville though… we all support each other better than any other city I’ve ever lived in. Drop me a line if you have any upcoming shows you want me to come support!

It’s frustrating that we don’t make more income for our talent as musicians. I always tell people I don’t get paid to play, I get paid to travel, set up and tear down. This is also why I don’t let people sit-in on my gigs, and I don’t sit-in on other people’s gigs. It’s not fair to the band and it’s not fair to the crowd. I worked in a local drum shop in the Detroit area, and met a lot of musicians in the area, along with national acts that needed equipment on the road. The younger players would come in the store and brag about their upcoming gig, with 4 other bands at a local club, with no pay. I tried to explain to them, their practice time and equipment investment was worth getting paid. Plus, doing these free gigs all the time only hurts everyone, in the long run. These clubs would rather pay a low wage for a crappy band, than a decent wage for a well rehearsed band. That’s why I quit the clubs, and make what I feel I am worth now, doing, festivals, weddings and corporate gigs.

in one of the other videos, you said 30 hours of work for one hour playing, in Ukraine you can basically live at the church and play three times a week for two hours is it and it’s walking distance

i played in a mid level bar band in northern canada in the early 90s we made 900 per gig as a 3 piece , 300 each ,1500-1800 for a wedding /corporate gig, we now charge 2500 and up for corporate gigs / parties/weddings, i dont play bars as much. they dont pay anything, i only do it part time mind you

Hi, when you say stadium gigs like 16000+ seats. I got that number from how many seats are in the XL Center in Hartford Connecticut. Foxboro stadium is 65000+ in Massachusetts.

It seems like teaching private lessons, and opening up a music school would be the best for a steady income. Play gigs on the side for $ and pleasure. There's too many guys keeping the rates low for playing gigs. Also as lame as it might be, weddings and corporate events would be a great paying market. Just my thoughts.

You’re right! Good steady money in teaching. Easy work and passing your knowledge down to younger folks. Better than playing for drunk tourists 7 nights a week.

There’s different reasons to get into the game. I would die if all I thought about was the monetary cost/benefit analysis of the work I take. Corporate and wedding stuff pays great but tends to be a dead end as far as “career advancement” goes. Not to mention that the experience can be very soul crushing and leave lots of people bitter and uninspired. You’ll often get more connections from random CCM church gigs.

@@currywinborn3129 you’re right. Most of us love the stage. However we should be careful taking crap gigs just to scrape by each week. If a person has a decent day job they can stand with a future. Then they can play anywhere they can that sounds fun. Trying to always turn music into money really burned me out years ago. When you get older it’s hard playing 4 hr shifts . It’s great when we’re young though

@@Life101-lm2utUnfortunately drums is probably going to be expensive to get into teaching. You’re going to need to rent a space where there is no problem how much noise you make. There’s no way to could do it in a regular subdivision house. It can work if you teach full time but is more difficult if you only do ~10 hours a week of lessons.

@@ATH_Berkshire I have a friend that insulated part of his garage with cheap bed foam and sheet insulation. Just big enough for 2 drum kits. Drums are tougher to find space for but Good Drummers are in higher demand than guitar players.
