This is one dollar for every week that I got to spend abroad as a backpacker from 2022-2023, and it is thanks to your videos. It was a pipe dream to quit working and spend a year (solo) budget traveling, and I had no idea where to begin. I came across your video on how to plan a travel year, and crafted a monthly task list using your schedule. That assignment was the catalyst for...everything. Anxiety and lack of knowledge kept me from doing it for years, so I used your videos to materialize this dream. As a result, I had the best year of my life and I CANNOT wait to do it again. All thanks to you both!

@@LisaAndJosh it must be so strange to be KZitem "celebs," because my first reaction was !! They responded to me!!! 😂 I did 6 months in SE Asia (including Langkawi), two weeks in Bhutan to get off the backpacker trail ($$$ but worth it), two months in Germany to chill and stay with the boyfriend I met while traveling, then the last 2.5 months in Africa for an overland camping safari Kenya -> South Africa. It was way epic! I can't pick one highlight because there were superlatives in each place (i.e. island hopping in the Philippines, New years Eve in Singapore, everything in Bhutan, African sunsets, etc.) The most helpful aspect of that planning video (I think it's from 2021), is breaking the giant task down by monthly priority. It was way more manageable to plan a giant trip knowing all I had to do in Month 6 was renew my passport, for example. And it was an easy way to dip my toe in the water without making a giant commitment....but the more months and monthly tasks I accomplished, the more invested and determined. The "least" helpful, in my experience, were the cost expectations and the timing of medical appointments. Because it was post-covid 2022, and short staffing was a major issue, I couldn't get all my medical appointments in those last 1-2 months. I should've done that sooner. And, all of the vaccines I needed were $4k out of pocket from the travel clinic! The other post-covid phenomenon was price surges. All prices domestically and abroad went up. But also....you've seen my itinerary...I did more expensive trip segments than you did, so I blew through that $40k budget 😂😆 Other than those two details, I was able to follow your advice to a tee and it worked beautifully.

Hi Lisa and Josh! I discovered your channel in the past 6 months or so while doing some travel planning and I really enjoy your content. :) I got some great ideas from your Italy and Japan videos! I'm a financial planner in the Montreal area, I get that it can be uncomfortable for some people to talk about their finances. I think what makes you both likeable is your honesty and transparency about what you like, and why you're doing what you're doing. You both just seem like really nice people. I would be surprised if anyone felt differently about you based on what you're earning. If anything, I hope for you that you're able to continue to increase your earnings as you expand your reach, so that you can travel full time and make more content for years to come. Cheers to your continued success :)

I've recently come across your videos and this was so invaluable for me to listen to. I just started my travel channel this year, and naturally, watch a lot of travel content. I usually watch vlogs to gain inspiration, but this behind the scenes stuff -- the finances, the lifestyle, etc -- was more enlightening by farrr. Not many creators, specifically travel, do what you are doing and you guys are so relatable -- I agree on so many things. I guess I am going against the grain by making a travel channel while still working my full time job. In order to do this, I am using my PTO (8 days only lmao) as strategically as possible to take several weekend trips around the year and then just trying to "milk" that content for as long as possible. For instance, instead of one video for a place, I am trying to make like 5 videos for each place. The hard part is, like you guys mentioned, is the exhaustion behind trying to fit so much in so little time when you do go on vacation. Anyhow, I appreciate your guys' perspective and realness. While it's an uphill battle for travel creators, I am trusting it's worth it in the end! Thank you for the transparency, I just subbed, and please don't stop making these travel support Thursday episodes!

This was a great discussion - don't worry, Josh, I thought the money part was well handled and offered a realistic look into travel content creation! One question for next week, maybe - when you were on your 1 year trip, you were on the road for months. Has this now changed to being based in Hawaii and venturing out as the flight ticket gods allow, or do you think you'll head out for a longer trip again? Which do you think is more cost effective? Happy Travel Thursday!

Love your honesty and transparency. And... I love the Travel Thursday jingle. Ya gotta keep it! (Sorry Josh) 🤣 Best of luck with that Jetstar flight, they don't have the greatest reputation here in Oz, cancelling more flights than actually flying. I am more of the slow traveller, staying in a place 4 - 7 nights, which is what I did in Italy this year and it was amazing. But I totally get it when you have limited time. I lived and worked on cruise ships for 4 years (6-8 month contracts) and I loved it for many reasons. But, I'm sure living on a cruise ship would NOT include tours. I could do it for a year, but probably not more than that. PS. Are you visiting the Gold Coast?

This is very good advice for amateur travelers! Yes! Advice for credit cards is true but you missed consequences of applying too many credits cards at short periods of time! Back 8 years ago credit cards used to be very sensitive when you spent more time outside US! So do US gov doesn’t like US citizens to be outside of country for very long time! Unless you don’t see yourself deal uncle Sum in near future, for those beneficial to US citizens! How do you file your Tax Return? Do you file as income earned abroad? Second thing you forgot to mentioned there extremely advantage to travel around the world carrying US passport most countries you go, Visas are easy to acquire as US citizens! Lisa and Josh do this very well because you’re only 2 of you! No additional members in the family! A child! Why I say this? I saw another KZitemr take her family all over with child about 5 yrs old and wife get pregnant during those trips! Seriously 😐! My opinion kids need certain time to grow as well pregnant wife need a little break for prenatal care! I got 5 kids! My opinion sometimes you will need to settle down and do something different and have a family with kids and travel for fun with your family! When you have kids is different ball game! I saw a lot of KZitemr way before they even get married like Mike Wiens or Georgy Kavkaz and many more! I watch them over 7 years now! They still do the same things! You guys you will need to create new contents and mix them up! Seems recently Everyone has jump on travel content for very short period of time! So, when you get children, you don’t wanna live backpackers life! 😂 Myself I travel all over the world not for KZitem but for my own pleasure! I am hiker and skier! For beginners who want to do travel as content to make money KZitem, is very true what from advice they Lisa and Josh is giving! There so much so many contents out there not yet in KZitem! So, much opportunity to all people out there want to make money on KZitem! 👍 So, genuine advice from you is amazing! Is very real! God job!
