Most likely. Considering how freely you can move in it, it definitely has to enhance the user's strength. Even the suit alone, without any additional weight, would be hard to move in if it was just a set of traditional armor.

@@nathanfish1998 There's a difference between a set of armor that's hard to move in because it's simply heavy and an advanced piece of technology you need to get used to, because of how it reacts to your movement. Imagine if you put a suit on, and your strength was suddenly multiplied by 2. You'd misjudge your movements a lot until you've adjusted to it.
@nathanfish1998

@@NotWendy3 I never specified exactly what would be difficult in terms of how movement works. In fact, I'm in nearly in complete agreement with your interpretation for the most part. I'm just stating that the lore supports the idea of it being a load-bearing exoskeleton. Though, rereading my statement and your own, it does look a bit like I was disagreeing with you. Sorry for the confusion. I've never been great at wording and some people tend to not understand the intent of my statements. Overall, I meant its a different kind of "hard to move". It requires adjustment to the suit, and training to properly utilize it as it creates disoriention in those who aren't used to the suit functions

I think it would be safe to assume that the HEV suits weight get cancelled out by some sort of powered exoskeleton, or else its wouldnt be that comfortable, and just think about the extra weight that suit also can carry since its made to carry shit, hence the advanced weapons system with aim assist ammo counter and weapon hud icons, probably also improved in the MKV version.
@naashchaa

Both the pistol and SMG had the same confusion between bullet and cartridge, and even though it probably has already been explained, I'd like to do it too: A gun fires by using a "cartridge", which consists of a casing (what's left behind and ejected after a shot), a bullet (what leaves the barrel after the shot), gunpowder and primer (the 2 things that make gun go boom). This is consistent for the overwhelming majority of current active and most historic firearms, if we don't go as far back as the muzzleloader times, and which means the pistol and SMG weight estimates were on the really low side. Not that it matters much with the final weight being about 1.5 tons, but the whole cartridge weighs 2-5x more than the bullet itself, which means for huuuuge ammo hauls that Gordon carries, the weight really adds up. I can attest myself, having carried boxes of 9mm pistol ammo, a short-ish shooting session of 150 rounds is a 2 hander job to carry the ammunition for.

wait, considering in the game you never take out the thingamajig from the AR2, and if we say the bullets are weightless then that just means the whole AR2 part is just 20kg. Just like how we ignore the weight of an ammo box, it works the same way for the AR2 thingamajigs, if gordon takes out the bullets from the pistol ammo box and shoves em up his prison pocket, then he does the same for the AR2 mags where he takes out that one weightless bullet pod from that massive contraption and that's it. same deal for the energy balls, there's nothing on the gun that seems to support that massive pod so maybe gordon just hooks it up with a usb cable and uploads the weightless energy ball into the gun. So imo, AR2 and all of its stuff should at most be 30kg
@sometimesidreamaboutcheese
2 жыл бұрын
But whole 20kg for assault rifle is A LOT, I mean... this is HUGE, I never thought that AR2 is so nonpractical stuff, how the heck rebels and Barney can operate such "weapon". Ok if combine, at least combine soldiers are modified humans, but ordinary ppl without, uhm, HEV-suit just can't handle with it. Even if we imagine that USP in game have 2kg when irl only ~1kg, and by that logic AR2 is about 10kg... It is still GODDAMN A LOT WELL... And then we will recall about Freeman's 300kg+ weight, he is just a tank with that whole load, lol, he can just run into enemies like a tank without any problem, lol
@nucleus691

@sometimesidreamaboutcheese
2 жыл бұрын
@@nucleus691 exactly, I just didn't had enough of time then to check real numbers of weight. Now I can say with a confidence that modern assault rifles like HK XM8 with composite materials could have weight around 3kg. And BAR (weirdly inpractical even by WWII standarts) has less than 10kg: 8-9kg of mass. So AR2 "high-tech alien" rifle with 10-20kg is just an absurd.
@erictheepic5019
2 жыл бұрын
@@sometimesidreamaboutcheese While the devs probably weren't thinking about this, headcanon is that the Combine knowingly designed their rifle to be weirdly heavy, such that it couldn't be easily used in enemy hands. For those rebels who *do* actually use the thing, it's technically possible for them to shoulder and fire it, but their aim would be terrible and they'd get tired after a few minutes. During Episode 2, there's some guy giving a lesson on the AR2, but is interrupted by some know-it-all claiming the existence of the AR3. Had he been allowed to continue, perhaps he would've talked about the merits of using the gun from a static position or finding somewhere to rest the majority of its weight to make aiming much easier, as is the modus operandi of modern GPMGs. But that's just a headcanon!

Keep in mind for pistol and smg that we're not counting the weight of the magazines themselves, which can't really be determined because we not only don't have any answer as to how much a magazine weighs, but we also have no idea how many magazines Gordon has, so depending on when he's loading bullets into magazines, he's carrying a minimum of two magazines for each (unless the game means to imply each reload animation is Gordon pulling out the magazine, slamming 18/45 bullets into it, then loading it back in) and an estimated maximum of 151 pistol magazines and 226 smg magazines, possibly more.
