I’ve read that the CP23 is solid fiberglass including the deck. I will have to do more research to find out if that’s 100% true. But I know there are no soft spots on my deck. This boat could last for a very long time even sitting in the water. The cabin is good size, but I wish it was more open and had a better place for the table. It’s very traditionally designed. I was in a Flicka 20 the other day. It was an open concept with the galley running down the port side. I think that’s the way to go. Thanks for watching.

Even a little boat is expensive. I went a different route. I bought a Hobie Tandem Island trimaran sailboat. It fits in my garage, it doesn’t break, and there is nothing to restore. I have owned it a couple of years, and so far, I haven’t spent a nickel on it, except for what I paid for it. I rather have what you have, but I’m too far away from the ocean.
@smallsailboatbigwater3959

I’ve always liked those Hobie Tandems. But, a little too exciting for me on the bay. The new ones that I saw cost over twice what I paid for my boat. But having no docking or storage fees is a big factor. The Island trimaran really looks like a lot of fun. I wonder how fast it can go.
@Panotaker

@@smallsailboatbigwater3959 I bought mine used, you can find them pretty cheap, but a used sailboat is probably cheaper. But then you probably have to do a bunch of repairs. I normally cruise around 5 to 6 knots, but they go twice as fast in decent wind, and with no wind, you can peddle it with no problem. A lot of people take them off shore to go fishing, so they are not just for lakes.

I like trailer sailing with the 25 Catalina Swing keel. I could step the mast signal handed in about an hour and be in the water tied up. The advantage of no slip fees was good but the ability to travel all over the State and beyond was the true bonus. The times I put her in salt took its toll. My boat and trailer plus my vehicle suffered. Living on the trailer saved me bottom cleaning too. I did spring for an awning beside my house to keep her out of the weather. If you do this stay out of HOA's which is another scourge of our nation. They will fine you for this and that so where you live will allow this or not. I did keep the boat out of the driveway because it was a monster and about as large ( too large ) as one could trailer. I did this for 10 years. My investment was about the same and I lost money when I physically could no longer launch and recover by myself. So now I have a 17 footer beater boat for putting around. Salt just cost more but cheaper than airplanes and that's another story.

Yes, I’ve really enjoyed my trailer-sailers also. I’ve owned the 19 foot Flying Scott, a 15 foot Chrysler Mutineer and the Com Pac 16. What I like best is being able to take it back to my garage and work on it. But one of my favorite things in life is walking down a nice dock and seeing all the boats and dock mates. I love having a sailboat in the water and enjoying the marina life. I personally would not want a swing keel in saltwater. That’s what I like about this boat. It can sit in saltwater for years and years with no ill effect. No through hulls or anything mechanical in contact with the water. It’s the perfect boat for me. I appreciate you watching and commenting.

The investment is in one's sanity. My wife and I quite need the decompression of the boat: quiet, dark and sparkly! Our CP 23 started out in similar condition to yours, except 30 years ago, so it's fun to watch someone discover the same route to sailboat ownership. On another note, I just bought some new eyebrows from Com-Pac. They arrived very quickly.

Hello, thanks to the CP23’s synthetic rot free deck, the only problem areas are where marine plywood was used to beef it up. The main area of concern is the block of wood encased in glass under the mast. Cracks form in the glass letting moisture in and causing rot. The only other wood on deck to check is under all mooring cleats and winches. Down below and down forward in the bilge is a small piece of plywood prone to rot. There are some concerns for 23’s stored in freezing climates with water in the bilge, cracking concrete ballast. Look closely with good lighting. I would next check all the thru-hulls if any. The less the better. These are solid boats and anything can be fixed. I bought my 1982 for $4,000 with no trailer. Worth every penny to me. Let me know how it goes. Thanks.

$12,000 on a boat that will allow you to make endless memories with friends and family is a small price IMO. My passion for years has been kayaking and I have lost count of all the great memories . My kids are grown adults now and both of them still kayak to this day. I have just recently took up sailing and am in the process of getting new sails for my boat. Everything else has been cosmetics , cleaning and I chose to replace the running rigging. Great video this will help me determine some of my cost for my 22ft Mc Gregor Venture 222. My boat is trailerable so some of those cost I get to eliminate.

Great job, she came out looking great. Enjoy! I am looking at doing some long delayed maintenance/upgrades to my own 23' trailer sailor that I have had for 30 years, a VN 23. It looks like you did a lot of thinking on what you wanted to do. I had a few questions: How did you decide on the Honda outboard? What tipped the scales in its favor over the other options out there? I went on Amazon to look at Bimini's. There are a lot of them, which brand do you buy and are you happy with it? I was curious to see your bungee tiller setup. Do you have a video that goes over it, or shows it in action? Thanks!

Hello, I went with the Honda for its reputation for reliability. I drive a Honda and my son has a Honda dirtbike, I’ve always had good luck with them. I’m not sure what brand Bimini I bought off Amazon, but it was inexpensive. I have another Bimini of high-quality and the difference in the strength of the tubing and fabric is night and day. But it’s doing the job for now. I know in one of my videos it shows me steering the boat from the bow, with the rope and bungee, but I’m not sure which one. I hope to make it the main feature of my next video. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it.

its cheap at the price , say you where to rent a holiday let at an apartment next to the sea and you gotta book in advance to suit whats available ,doubt youd get many holidays for 12k, the boat allows you to go when and were it suits you ,your in control of the timings you,ve also got a decent boat not needing repairs that will at some time give you cash back when or if you decide to sell you could invest in a trailer and store it at your property if you have space that cuts out the docking fees and even more of an asset and huge saving over time ,just the hassle of towing and launching no big deal
