Can you point out evidence that fat consumption causes inflammation? Because the entire reason people eat a ketogenic diet. Is to stop inflammation

I've been feeding a raw food diet (Primal and Stella & Chewy) to my dogs for many years. One of my dogs has just been diagnosed with pancreatitis and I've been told to feed a low fat diet. I've been thinking all along the food I've been feeding was ok. I just looked at the ingredients and it is indeed imbalanced and is not the 2:1 ratio as you recommend. Thank you for the education on this matter.

How do i calculate it? Using dog's weight or daily food allowance? As i read before that it should be minimum 2g of fat per 1kg of body weight. My dog eats 850g raw food a day, 10% of his food is 80g so is this the amount of fat he should be getting? He weighs 33kg, and i was counting 2g per 1kg weight which should be 66g in his case but he was eating between 40 and 50g fat plus 2 pumps of krill oil where 1 pump is 2 g of fat. I noticed that if he got more than 50g fat end of his poops were a bit loose and yellowish colour. Was i doing it all wrong?

I have a dog with stromal corneal dystrophy - fat makes him go blind (faulty gene) so I have to restrict his fat intake to around 6% -8% - Your RDFNS course saved his life and is helping me keep his sight longer (but I have to walk a very fine line). Without your course (I also have the ACNS) and videos my dog would have gone almost completely blind five years ago. Keep doing what you are doing please.

My understanding is that animals in the wild get their vitamin D, fat soluble vitamins, and omega three fatty acids from fat. I doubt wild animals leave the fat surrounding the heart and kidney, or what is found in the skin. 10 percent seems awfully low to me. I do not feed ground meats, so I need to eyeball the fat. And I do feed quite a few organs that are super high in fat like brain and pancreas. My dogs are 15.5 and 16 years old and still healthy. The amount of fat I am feeding seems to be working. Removing healthy fat from grass finished animals and replacing it with purchased "healthy" oils makes no sense to me.

Is 10% fat safe for a dog that is prone to pancreatitis. It didn’t work for mine. I do home cooked and tried your recipes that included hearts which have high fat % and even though I transitioned over a few days it sent him into a full blown attack. My normal recipes have ratios closer to 2-3 % as I grind chicken breast or use 99% fat free turkey and a couple of gizzards which r much lower in fat, but he needs to gain some weight and don’t know how without causing his alt levels to rise. So if I'm using hamburger as a base, do I need the 95 beef,5 fat or would 80 20 be sufficient. I recently switched from 95/5 to 80/20 amd notice a 5 pund weight gain in my lab. He looks like he gained even more but a quick vet trip showed only 5 pulound gain over 2 months. Still I'd like to get him back to 80#'s where he looked lean and trim and had lots more energy

This is extremely helpful and something I didn’t know. It also explains why I’m seeing reflux and yeast buildup. If I’m feeding a variety of 80/10/10 premade blends, tripe, oysters and fish, all with different fat content, how do I maintain the 2:1 ratio? Plus additional supplements for balance like flax seed oil?
@DogsNaturallyMagazineDNM

Flax seed oil will not balance your fats all that well. It contains only alpha-linolenic acid, which will not be converted to much ETA, EPA and DHA. I recommend green lipped mussel oil and either hempseed, evening primrose or hopefully ahiflower. These will convert well to EPA and DHA and are a rich source of GLA while green lipped mussel supplies ETA. - Dana

You mentioned that you would answer questions. OK. I'd like to list what I feed my dogs and get your opinion, please. My dogs are mixed small breed. Somewhere between 16 and 18 lbs and, are not overweight at all. I don't feed raw - it makes me nervous. However I'd rather not discuss that here. Their main food is pressure cooked skinless/boneless chicken breasts. I cook the chicken with carrots and add steamed broccoli and then mash it all up together with a stainless steel bar ice crusher. So it's about 5lbs of chicken and 12oz each of the vegs. Mornings, Sunday thru Friday: 1/8 of an apple finely chopped about one inch of a banana quartered approx. 1/8 cup blueberries Then they get the chicken mix. 5.5oz for my more active dog and 4.5oz for Mr lazy. ; ) I add to this 7oz of water. I weight this on a scale. Evenings, Sunday thru Friday: Chicken mix, same portions + water. This is when they get supplements 1. Fourleaf Rover: Safe Sea, 12 and 10 drops respectively. 2. Fourleaf Rover: Green Rover, about 1/8 teaspoon. 3. Mr. Ros: Marine Phytoplankton, about 1/16 - 1/8 teaspoon. 4. Upco: Bone meal, 1/2 teaspoon. I also add grapefruit seed extract and oil of oregano, one drop each. I add these to control fungus and harmful bacteria. I addition, they get a liver function supplement, two drops. It's got stuff like chicory root and milk thistle seed, ect. All three of these list human doses but I divide that by 10 since I'm about ten times bigger than they are. That just leaves Saturdays. Mornings they get steamed salmon - skin on. I remove the skin before I give it to them plus 7oz. water Evenings is raw hamburger, the leanest I can get - 93/7 plus 7oz. water. They get the previously mentioned Sun-Fri supplements also. Ya so, . . TLDR? No need for a detailed reply, unless of course you're so inclined. By the way, I'm subscribed to your email and of course I buy the Fourleaf Rover stuff because I found it on your website. Cheers and thank you. Pedro and Stryker thank you too.

If this was my dog, I would trade in the steamed broccoli for raw broccoli sprouts. They're a better source of cancer-fighting sulforaphane. I wouldn't feed fish because 1. It's toxic and 2. It's devastating for the oceans. Beef, lamb or rabbit would be a better option IMO. Hope that helps!
@Nikwunu

your claims about fat are entirely baseless and wrong. there's no way for it to harm gut flora. chronic inflammation is caused by toxic fatty acids found in seed oils, not meat. the only part you got right is the energy density meaning anyone can just check for weight gain and adjust the ratio accordingly. the fat % of prey animals measured likely only applies to the muscle meat, not fatty organs. dogs do not need "phytonutrients" as they are actually just toxic and not nutrients by definition, they need to get short chain fatty acids through diet as the short carnivore digestive tract cannot absorb it by the time fermentation is over. all of this applies to humans as well.

Great video! Would love to see more on raw diets targeted for different health issues. Example, I'm currently battling reg good fat vs. fat reduction because my girl is just getting over 2nd bout of pancreatitis in the last 7 mos. I know health unprocessed fats aren't as much as issue as most make "fat" out to be, however, after this second pancreatitis I'm timid regarding fat bc I don't want to risk my girl having to experience that pain ever again! Also, I know gut, kidney, liver, etc. are all involved with panc occurring so we're currently doing Adored Beast's leaky gut protocol as well as phytoplankton, & liver tonic from here on out. Thanks so much for your information...... you knowledge is invaluable & greatly, greatly appreciated 🙏💫🐾🐾🌿

Pancreatitis is similar to other inflammatory organ diseases ... it's all connected to gut health. The best approach to pancreatitis is to focus on a healthy gut environment. Researchers are finding that harmful gut bacteria can make their way to the pancreas and this is thought to be a possible cause of pancreatitis. Don't stray from what Mother Nature wants your dog to eat ... things will always go wrong.

@@DogsNaturallyMagazineDNM One follow-up question. I absolutely agree about using mother nature as a guide, have believed this for most my life. 🌱🌳🌿 And I've started her on Adored Beast's leaky gut protocol as I do believe her gut is the force behind 2 pancreatic episodes w/in 7 months & no history of it prior (she's 13.5 yo and never gets fatty treats, etc, etc, etc). My main concern is not being able to trace fat from meat, as you mentioned, grass fed roaming vs. not. With this in mind, do you have a general fat percentage for pancreatic prone dogs since lifestyle of meat fed is most likely unknown? I know you can't be specific as each dog varies with pancreatic issues I hope I'm making sense. ***If I was making her meals from scratch I wouldn't be so worried, however, I'm not yet to the place of comfort with that, so I'm feeding commercial balanced raw. Thankfully I've found 2 brands that do not use oils in their formulas ✌ but I'm still concerned about fat in meat as explained above. Apologies for the lengthy wording!!! Simply trying to be as descriptive as possible. And again, SO, SO much gratitude to you and you sharing your awesome knowledge. 🙏💫🙌
