I think just paying for the cars for what they're worth is the best way to do it. I don't understand the obsession with finance, it's just dealers promoting it because it makes them more money. Well done that you actually bought these cars and aren't just 'borrowing' them and sinking money into something you have to hand back to someone and can truly afford it, must feel much more secure knowing you've bought it and it's completely yours.

I don’t have the collection you have, I own a MGA, MGB GT V8, 240Z and 993 Porsche so a fraction of the value of one just one of your cars. The problem I have is storing the damn things!! I live in Sydney and as you are no doubt aware whatever you pay for a car in the UK, you can basically double the cost in Oz. Like you, I thought about my exit strategy for each vehicle before I bought it and fingers crossed each of my cars is worth more than I paid for it. It’s probably the same in the UK as here, in that unique cars are now being purchased as investments by speculators, rather than car guys (sorry for the pun) meaning the costs have skyrocketed.

This is jnteresting. The UK pricing is currently not representative of the European and US market. With the Brexit and hung parliament pricing has stalled for the exotics. My Lusso is still depreciating kn Europe like the 458 and 488 is, but the Lusso and the 458 has plateaued in the UK at the moment. That being said, the UK depreciation will catch up. As for the Rolls Coupè not being made again? You cannot say that for certain. That was also what they told us about the first Coupè and the Drophead. I think it is safe to say that there will be another Coupè. And again, outside the UK, the 458 is still going down and is now way below the 488.

This inspired me and I am doing a summary also (will put it on paper for the first time ever) ;-) I am down of course but I drove a lot in all my cars and had huge fun, except for Aston Martin Virage (fun but not much driving sadly) which I hope will go up because market overlooks them too much imo (We bought it pretty cheap and nice condition - interesting car, our piece was the demo shown at Frankfurt Autoshow and later after inspection made as a normal VIN car and sold to its first owner). All my rotary cars are starting to go up now (older classics at least for sure). The Lexus F was bought at the bottom of pricing, I am convinced the 2012 IS F will hold its value from now on. MX5 30th Anniversary is fun and in 10 years would be lower but ok and super fun ownership ;-). The GS F will also stay in nice waters from now on. My small city fun car Swift Sport 2019 will also hold OK as more crazy emissions causing hybridization of it next year and in general small cars are getting killed because of the EU craziness with 95 g/km fines. I am going after Lotus Evora and Porsche next year (Cayman GTS 4.0 or GT4 or 911 GT3 Touring...). We walk on! I am also not financing ;-) maybe if GTS 4.0 bought as new I will do. Love the real ownership aspect. To have it and care.

Agree 100% on 675LT, a very special car, 60% of the parts are bespoke to the 675 and almost the entire body is painted CF apart from the roof, front wings & bonnet (which could be optioned as such). Its a full 100 kilos lighter than the 650, quite an achievement and only 50 RHD coupes. You can add me to your list of purchasers as I bought a chicane grey coupe last week with the club sport processional pack. All the 'well' specified cars now seem to have permanent homes and supply is drying up with only a handful left for sale.

It seems to me, when it comes to buying recent model Ferraris, you shouldn't expect them to appreciate in the short run unless they're at least 10 years old, or unless you're buying a limited production model when they first come out (i.e. the Speciale Aperta). For example, if you were to buy a 2017 488 GTB, California T, FF, or F12berlinetta, they'll most likely continue to depreciate until they're about 10 years old, at which time the prices should start to climb again. You could expect these types of cars to depreciate about 1% per month (12% per year). While, for example, 355s, 360s, and F430s are more likely to appreciate at this point because they've already depreciated over the last 10 - 20 years, while their modern counterparts (458, 488) are still depreciating, especially as newer models come out (i.e. F8 Tributo). So, if you're looking to make money on a Ferrari, you should buy one that's at least 10 years old because most of the depreciation is already built in. But if you're looking to live life to the fullest, and you want to enjoy the experience of driving a modern supercar with all of the modern conveniences, you should buy one that's a couple of years old, but don't expect it to appreciate. And when you're completely hooked on all things Ferrari, you might want to custom order a new one to your exact specifications (at least someday before you die, right?), because after all, you only live once. And if you're lucky enough to be offered a limited production run, direct from the factory, well then... you're lucky enough. Does that seem about right, or not necessarily?

I can't believe how many people with 'normal' amounts of money buy cars on finance. Why would you pay £250 a month for a Ford Focus (or similar) when you can buy a decent Focus for £4,500 - what you'll spend in 18 months on a new one? Is it just wanting a new one? (Is a new Focus really much better than a 2012 one?) Or is it people's cluelessness regarding money? Do they think it's more affordable because they're paying monthly? Genuine questions - I'm baffled.
@TheCarGuysTV
4 жыл бұрын
It all depends if you have something else to spend the money on that's going to be better for you/more profitable. You might finance the Focus in order to keep the £4,500 to spend on a Rolex, and the Rolex might be worth £8k and so generate profit. In which case, using the finance to get the car AND the watch makes sense.
@julianevans9548

@@TheCarGuysTV Good point... if a slightly odd example - not sure many people who are spending four and a half grand on a car are spending a similar amount on a watch! I cannot understand the markets fascination with ultra ultra low milage supercars. They are designed to be driven, designed to be enjoyed - if you can afford to buy one - you can afford to service and repair one. I'd much rather buy a car which has been used enjoyed and serviced than one which has been laid up and unused as an investment ornament. Your Tdf is a case in point - to me the miles you have put on it makes it far more appealing to me at least - its been enjoyed - and whilst I appreciate the need to keep things sensible on a fiscal scale - I wish the market would appreciate that sensible milage on such machinery is a good rather than a bad thing. I do see the YT guys, not having the actual cash to buy if they wanted...and there I can see your point, however, additionally there is a lot of people (not on YT) worth millions who will finance their cars, say someone with £10m liquid...he could buy a La Ferrari...however his finance may be 'say' 4%, and maybe his financial wealth manager can get him 8% on the £2.4m he would have to put in to the LaFa in the year...to finance the car and free up the £2.4m would allow him to come out at the end of the year 'almost' £100,000 better off.

It's sad how mileage sensitive these cars are. TDF only 6k miles in 3 years and that's the highest !! They are cars, built for driving, good on you for actually driving them 👍😎

Thank you so much for sharing this information. Cars are to be driven. So when you’re stating the car has covered A LOT of miles at -say 6000- I get very upset. Please enjoy driving your gorgeous collection! Some of these cars require expensive maintenance, whether you drive them or not. Your beloved 355 eats maintenance at a very high rate...

Interesting and highly unusual carvideo I have to say, but very entertaining and informative. Speaking for myself, I would be very interested to hear from you Damian, what the registrations are worth. Overhere on the other side of the Northsea, we are not so fortunate that we can choose / buy our preferred registrations, no, we just have to wait and see what the RDW ( sort of DVLA) is issuing on our new cars. Or on imported Oldtimers like mine, for that matter. You have quite a number of personalized registrations with DB in it, which might also be interesting for Aston Martin owners? I can imagine i.e. DB 7 or DB 11 would be appreciated by them too. Plus you have BO55 TDF on the... well, TDF ofcourse. And 657 LT on the McLaren. I imagine that these 'special' registrations of yours could generate a considerable amount of cash? Your comments please Sir... Cheers! RdV

Hi there, the value of reg plates varies enormously depending on recognisability and the smallest combination of letters and numbers. The market is very difficult to predict because each number is unique but you can get a vague idea from similar plates. For me 675LT and 72 DB are probably the most valuable, but there’s no guarantee of any sale in the future, so I just assume they are all worthless. Certainly, the UK has a ref plate market unlike almost all other countries in the world.

Thanks for the film. Leaving aside running costs that impact the overall +VE & -VEs of your fleet, there is one other factor. If you wanted to sell, most of your cars would likely be sold via a (franchise) dealer. Once you factor-in their profit & work they'll put into the car ready for sale, the net sale price will be lower than the market value.

Problem with Mclarens is that all use the same exact recipe... Carbon monocoque body with a Twin Turbo V8. One of the reason why 675LT doesnt standout since they made 600LT and soon a LT version of 720S

So basically it's cut in half. Cars bought before 2013/14 have appreciated and cars bought 2015 and later have depreciated. As we saw a big surge in prices from 2013-2015 this resembles the typical marketmovement. As lot's of cars have lost value in 2019 it would be interesting to spot the few that haven't.
@TheCarGuysTV

Yes, the more modern ones have had peaks, but then the value has diminished quickly. Look at the bubble for GT4s, for example

Excellent vid, pure escapism for me!! My father had a rare '95 740i with a 6 speed manual in the same colour as your 750i. Perhaps not available in the UK as we lived in Belgium at the time. Definitely the nicest 7 series ever made to date. I'm in awe of your collection, but I have to say I'm glad I don't have to think about how much mileage I'm putting on my 991.2 C2S (which I purchased new and outright back in 2018). I don't ever plan to sell it anyway and the kids love it too much. Driving it when I want and as much as I want is a truly liberating experience and has allowed me to bond with it.. Anyway, Love your work!

Really respect the honesty of this video and love watching the chanel. The biggest shock for me was the value of the GTS (my favorite car in the collection) thought it would of held its money more. Also love the 7 series amazing car and years ahead of its time. The best car I owned to this day was a 535i sport 2002 years ago, I still have not come across anything so nice to drive with smooth delivery of power, comfort and looks. I think BMW have really lost their way with looks:(

Ah yes my favourite subject ! , I avidly watch all online auctions from the likes of Bonhams, RM sothebys aswell as Barrett Jackson for the US muscle car scene . I read a report the other day from one of the auction houses and they said both the Speciale Aperta and the TDF will both be worth Enzo money within ten years , so I guess it's a case of watch this space . I always wanted a mk 1 Gallardo superleggera after watching the top gear episode with the greatest European driving road.
