Oh classic BBC. “India is so poor, everyone there should be ashamed of having any money”. “India is so poor, why does it have a space program”. “India is so poor, why does it have at0mic we@pons”? As an Indian, I can say some of us might find the Ambanis wedding stupid and excessive. But we recognise that it’s entirely up to them, not us, how they spend THEIR OWN MONEY. And at the end of the day, it’s certainly not the job of some povvo BBC commentator to prescribe to the Ambanis.
@curiouspanda007
20 күн бұрын
I certainly agree with you @mattgbam. BBC still look at us as a colonial mindset and still think we are in same financial state as they looted and left India. First of all @bbc, it is none of your business to tell Ambani’s how to spend their personal money and how to invest and where to invest. Secondly, being an Indian we are never ashamed off to accept that we do have poor people whom we are collectively putting our efforts to uplift their lifestyle and we do have richest people and family whose wealth is bigger than some of the western countries GDP. Finally, as a Indian we respect Ambani’s family function is their personal choice and we do celebrate their happiness since it is testimony of our culture, our customs and richness of India tradition in front of the western world. Who thinks themselves as a gem in the civilised world. And also this even exhibits our family values which we still hold as an Indian community.

India is a land of paradoxes. Even very very poor people take loans to have a good wedding. Yes, most people are not having Ambani level celebration but for the kind of lives they have, their wedding is still on Ambani level. The Ambani level they can take loans for. Foreigners really really need to rethink all they know about India. I won't even start the topic of bling bling grandma's dripping in diamonds and costliest silk sarees at the average middle class South Indian weddings. I will save it for the next time. So many people are not talking about them feeding thousands of people for 40 days, as well as getting 50 unprivileged people married. As a gesture of goodwill and to facilitate the start of their new journey together, each couple was bestowed with significant gifts. The brides received gold ornaments, including Mangalsutra, wedding rings, and nose rings, alongside silver ornaments such as toe rings and anklets. Each bride was also presented with a cheque amounting to Rs. 1.01 lakh as her 'streedhan,' symbolizing her personal assets. Additionally, the couples were provided with essential grocery and household items sufficient for a year, along with appliances and bedding essentials. There are poor people in India, as there are in all the countries, but India is not a poor country, India is the fifth-largest economy in the world. It's their money, they are celebrating the wedding of their son, and after that, they will probably have a wedding in the next 20-25 years. It might be over the top, but everyone uses their money as much as they can to celebrate such occasions.

Let's hope the marriage lasts longer than the wedding. .... while you have people living in filth, it's a little much . I guess its good for the economy

People living in filth? This is 2024. India has officially eradicated extreme poverty. Yes people are poor but you can even find them in USA and UK even though they are "developed" countries. Moreover, the wedding wasn't free. They paid the workers for their job. So I don't think it was a waste. So, please don't hate the Asians because your country have been funded by them in the 19th and the 20th century. Have some shame.

It's actually their money. Their hard earned and well deserved money and it's their will to spend however they would like to. I don't understand what BBC's problem is. They have done a lot of charity work as well where they have fed the financially underprivileged for over a month. Talking about which, you have financially underprivileged people everywhere in the globe. Don't forget about skid row in USA. Solving the financial crisis in a country is the government's job. Also, I'd like to add that India is one of the fastest growing economic superpower of the world. Most people in important positions in the world are from India. we are capable of achieving monumentous wins that is good for the country and the world. The Ambanis have represented us in a grand scale to the world. I'm sorry if the western world feels intimidated by it. Our intention is only to progress and work peacefully with the world. I'm proud of India, please BBC, stop with the hatred, you are better than this ❤
