Thanks for the breakdown. Praia da Luz is our favorite place; came back last month after spending 9 weeks there. All the places, streets and restaurants in your video are so familiar. Missing this place!

very nice general breakdown and range of living costs. There are couple more costs to consider, such as, if you buy a property, there will be annual real estate taxes and you will also have income taxes on income due in the USA as well as Portugal, even under the non habitual residency tax program. I understand these are hard to estimate but they are not insignificant. Lastly, twice monthly house keeping and cleaning expense - 50 euros/month. Thanks for you very accurate and informative information.

Thank you. I actually clean the place! My real estate taxes are less than $1,300 a year! Great info. Glenda

Um. I hate to say this, but Setubal is not in the Algarve. It is a coastal town just outside Lisbon. It is in the Lisbon municipality (like a county in the US).

I just wanted to say how much I enjoy watching your KZitem videos on your retired living. I hope you do not mind me asking a few questions about your adventure just to get a better idea about moving to Portugal myself. I think I can get my wife to Portugal easier than I can get her to East Texas. With the way things are going in the US, I am about ready to pack up and move abroad. Fortunately, my work would allow me to work form Portugal as long as I have a stable internet connection. I just wanted to drop a quick note on how to get started.

What do you think about the city of Loule? Is it affordable?
@glendacole5797
Жыл бұрын
Yes, is it. I don't really care for that large a city to live in, but I visit the mall quite often and I love the Saturday market there. Since it's not on the water, and lots of locals live there, the real estate will be much cheaper. Good luck! Glenda

Where is the villa? If it is in the Algarve, it is somewhere very inland.

Very inland in the Algarve is more country like. I was there a couple of months ago and I travelled around to a few smaller towns. The places away from the ocean in the smaller towns were beautiful and peaceful which was described as a “safari tour”

Playa de Luz... Is that 1 bedroom $12,000 USD per month??? 🤔 OK, I guess that's per year. The town looks sleepy enough but with all those restaurants and pubs, especially with live music, I doubt that I would be getting much sleep in that apartment.

I realize the purchase of health insurance is a personal thing but what company/companies do you recommend for coverage in Portugal?
@glendacole5797
Жыл бұрын
My doctor recommended Ageas/Medis and I have been very happy with them. I also hear good things about Medal, including that they are the only insurer who covers pre-existing conditions. Medal requires that you pay for the year up front, the price is within a few euros of Ageas. I may go with Medal next year to see if they will cover my back treatments, which Ageas won't because it's pre-existing. Good luck! And thank you for watching. Glenda

Nice info but pity about the bad audio. BTW what do you mean by keep your US cell phone?
@BocaJoeKay
Жыл бұрын
@pgprentice - I'm a USA expat in the Algarve and I need to maintain my USA cell phone for USA based banking and brokerage application access. The security policy for these apps require a USA based cell phone that the apps text security codes to and that are entered when logging into the apps. I use AT&T with the cheapest monthly cell package and I use my Portugal Vodafone cell for all other communications (and WhatsApp internet free international connections - text and voice). My AT&T cell is $45/month.
@pgprentice

@@BocaJoeKay Thanks for that. I have been using a bunch of free text apps to do the same thing. It is a bit hard to get a US cell account when you no longer live there.

@@pgprentice I just didn't want to lose my US phone number, so I kept my US plan. The last time I went home to visit I upgraded my iphone. It works beautifully here. And the Portuguese land line works well for local business. Thanks for watching. Glenda
