For reference a handyman gets 65 an hour. You can get certified as a technician and have a hard time finding a job close you. Then you get 20-30 an hour that’s not enough. You can get more work at a grocery store….

Respect for the working man and woman. Despite some of the comments here, the struggle to get credentials and certification while working is a valid way to get a leg up in the job market. Especially in the long run. Good jobs in a store or other businesses may come and go. But certification for a skill; that is permanent. Yours to keep and use for life.

Yeah but maybe he likes working on cars and has valuable knowledge to help out friends and family and he never has to go to a mechanic himself unless it’s something he can’t fix

I'm a tech in California, you get paid double minimum wage if you supply your own tools, right now it's $31 hour. *All dealers pay the same for service technicians, lube techs do not make good money starting out because shops usually supply tools for lube techs. Good not great pay because everything is expensive here. Ok career starting out, I'm 6'5" and my knees, knuckles, hands, back, head and neck take a beating sometimes. I'm only 32 years old and I regret choosing this career mainly because I don't care to become a master tech, only did this because it was good pay and I didn't go-to college or UTI. Young guys - it's cool to start out, but service advisors and car salesman make ALOT more then technicians which is absolutely bullshit considering we are reliable and in charge of working on vehicles that transport families from point a to point b. Wish technicians nation wide would go on strike for equal pay since we do all the grunt work and get 1/3 of advisor and sales pay.

Hey man; so I was reading your comment. Im deciding either auto tech or Electrician. I’m doing a tour this Friday for UTI in Dallas. The auto tech is a good gig only if you get the 30/hr but besides that not sure if I want to use my G I BILL on something that doesn’t give to much return.

Working for Acura and what you said is exactly why I’m changing careers we do all the hard and heavy work without us cars wouldn’t get fixed or sold but we get the chump change. The advisors, salesman’s and the favorites in the shop the only ones who really eat

@@abejr2513sorry for the late response - it's a good gig to start out but I would not recommend long term. Also the amount of chemicals we inhale wether it be ac refrigerant, brake cleaner, degreaser ect I'm sure will drastically effect health down the road.
