As an inspector we work a lot indoors so you still can make money during the rain. It all depends on you Certs or Licenses you carry. The Moore you have the more you will stay busy.

I wonder if they pay that much in my area. And if they do why aren't there mountains of applications

I think a very large part of it is because society as a whole doesn't put this kind of work in the limelight anymore. Like this man said early in the video. Stuff like mechanics, carpenters, electricians, plumbing and welding are not really Even talked about in lower education anymore. So yeah I definitely believe it's a lack of exposure to our youth

They always push that high dollar rate (60 an hr) but thats full package. Thats there medical insurance, vacation pay, and pension. They take home around 33ish to maybe 40 an hr. Its important to take into account that construction isnt steady plus your constantly commuting. Theres plenty of jobs out there that pay well. I am not bashing construction just stating the facts.

No you fool that's to the check be jealous scab! In California us high skill union construction workers are all mostly making 100k year. I'm 24 and haven't made less than 100k since before COVID

Not true at all. 60 a hr is take home for a journeyman level. I’m a union inspector as well. The whole package is roughly 100$ a hour including your vacation pay, pension and 401k. There is not a lot of jobs that pay 60 a hour after 3-5 years of field experience

If you are carrying specific Equipment needed for the job that only the Lab where you are working with carries then you will get paid Gate to Gate. Most of the time it's usually on you dime for the travel. If you travel from the Lab you were hired out of more than 50mi you will get paid milage.

@@iuoe12 knowing that, is owning a truck necessary? Also does pay rate change depending on the city? Like if you go to the bay? Or is it always one flat rate
@iuoe12

@4ngel209 owning a truck is beneficial but not necessary. I had a Prius for a long time and did the job just fine. Carrying a wheelbarrow to perform Concrete sampling is the most space you will need for equipment.

@@4ngel209 The wage doesn't change. Your wage is dictated by the licenses you carry. As long as you carry the licenses you wage won't change. The more licenses you have the more money you can make. This of course as long as your working in Local 12 jurisdiction.

Local 12 is all over Cali, and has districts. Districts 1 is Pasadena, that’s where all the LA people are. Some districts go into Nevada and he’s not full of shit, but if you plan on trying it, you better have some balls. It’s extreme difficult to start in without knowing anyone or have a good company to work for, one wrong move and you can be blacklisted. It’s like anything else, just a job, fun at times and sucks most of the time. If anyone tells you they love their job to the fullest they need a better life.
