Not always true. I myself and a few friends had like SGD 3.3k-3.8k offered only with a engineering degree (top 3 SG local universities). Grades is min 3rd Class to FCH.

As with many other things, scarcity raises the value. Graduates are readily available, us older folks are staying longer in jobs and there's competition from around the world. Essentially graduates have become cheap stock for companies, there's always a more desperate graduate around willing to take lower pay. Similar situation occurs in USA & China as well, but they are much worse off than Sg . Even South Park made a parody of how blue collar workers becoming rockstars. My advice to younger folks, unless your chosen profession needs a degree try and work in the targeted industry for a few years first to see whether it is as you imagined. Talk to people in industries that you are interested in and find a mentor, seek out internships. Also there are plenty of blue collar jobs that have great prospects as well; just need to get rid of the social stigma mindset that its a lowly form of work. Sad to say, it's become more difficult for younger people to accrue wealth as compared to their Boomer & Gen X parents.
