I think a topic that should also be addressed is how free trials have died. I know they may seem irrelevant with all the game reviews you can watch but there is nothing like getting a hands on feel for yourself but ever since the days of the xbox 360 have passed the free trial has dwindled away. Note: Yes Steam has a return system I'm aware but that is not a free trial imo since the game isn't set to show you the specific parts demo usually would want to use in letting you get the main games feel (still amazing though). Also gamepass is a gateway to demos from a veiw point but I digress.
@runbaa9285

Which is why I love that Capcom is doing free demos for their games again so that potential buyers can try it out first. RE2, 3, 4 Remake, RE7 and 8, and Street Fighter 6 all have free demos available. I'd argue that it brought even more sales for Capcom because potential new audience for either of the above games could try them out cost-free.

crash 4 was beautiful but sonic frontiers? that game was a hell to play. but overall yes a 40$ price would be good to help the fanbase become bigger
Great video! I'm of the age that I got a NES and GameBoy when they first came out, but I also spent countless hours and thousands of dollars in Arcades, and even to this day I will always prefer the lowest cost of entry for video games. There was a time when games had to be FINISHED before they could be sold, but even then every gamer's collection was almost always half garbage games that were a total waste of money, and you never played them more than once, at least in an Arcade it only cost you $0.25 or less to find out if it was trash. Free-to-Play is now the main way I find new games, and if it proves worth my time, I will HAPPILY give them my money. In the end, I will end up spending more on the game in various micro-transactions, but the dollar/hour will be worth it. I've spent a few hundred dollars on Apex Legends, but I've also got a few thousand hours of entertainment, which is WAY BETTER than spending $10 on a game that I get only a couple hours out of, or only play once.

If I know that I will find enjoyment coming back again and again to see whats changed or for spouts of inspiration or motivation then I double the value per hour to $2 per hour of enjoyment.

i have an idea If your game is free: Only use in-game stores for cosmetics maybe a battle pass, but do not remove free skins, everyone deserves a skin. If you game is free but requires DLC to play (ahem Destiny 2): only have either an in-game store or a Battle Pass (maybe even increase it's tiers or something) not both. If you game is paid but you need microtransactions: Make them earnable in-game and not in a scummy way (looking at you overwatch 2) If you game is paid and shouldn't have microtransactions: Don't add them. Ever. just an opinion btw oh and games shouldn't cost 70 fucking dollars.

In my opinion, game prices are usually great due to the play time that they usually have (though exclusively single player games sometimes can be flexible due to the visuals, story, side quests, replayability, new game+ and parts involved in 100%ing it). Most people when working get paid by the hour so if a person were to get $20 an hour, that’s 3 hours to buy a normal average priced game that can give from 20 hours of gameplay to hundreds of hours. 20 hours of content is just $3 an hour which compared to watching a one and a half hour movie at a cinema is a huge difference. Games are usually quite cheap considering the amount of time they usually entertain the players.

I think $60 and less should still be the standard because most games nowadays make most of their money from an unfinished broken mess that is overly monetized. Even polished games tend to dip their toes into the battle passes and shops. @lesliejacoby9137

Realistically it should be based (imo) on the 4 factors of: hours of gameplay + level of replayability + amount of future content and + amount of available cosmetics (for the last two both free and of charge). From their adding a little on to cover marketing or to treat yourself aint outer worldly but to the big companies screw them. NOTE: a special factor of "is made to be played alone or really only good with friends". Left 4 Dead is a good example as its too expensive to justify convincing 3 other people to buy it (but gamepass saved it player base wise).

Its super nice and actually encourages you to play the game instead of just grabbing your credit card but if you don't wanna grind or multiple items you want are in the shop you can buy them or you can work your butt off to get them.

Me personally to make things objective, for a lot of games what I do is see how much a game’s price is and if I enjoyed myself for equal to or over the amount of money spent in hours played ($20 game should be about 20 hours of enjoyment, etc etc.) then that means it would be worth the price to me. Obviously this is just a loose rule of thumb that can be changed according to genre, franchise enjoyment and whatnot but I find it to be pretty helpful in finding a game’s true “value” in general.

I've easily gotten well over 60 dollars worth of enjoyment of Free to Play Games, like I have put a lot time into some of these games, and I've gotten more enjoyment out of some of them then some full priced games. As much as I used to despise microtransactions, after Loot Boxes have fallen off they don't bother me as much any more.
