You may have heard that you need 1/4 teaspoon of sunscreen for your face. This number is calculated from an estimate of people's face sizes, and the SPF testing amount (2 mg per cm²). A larger face will need more sunscreen, while a smaller face will need less sunscreen... so how much do I need?
Since I have a huge forehead and a flat-but-wide nose, I wanted a more accurate measurement than some of the geometry-based estimates I've seen before. I decided to work out my facial surface area by taping my face with paper tape, then taping it onto grid paper and counting the area (and of course I filmed the process!). I then worked out how much sunscreen I needed... turns out it's slightly less than 1/4 tsp!
I also worked out how much sunscreen I needed for my neck and decolletage.
