The 25% is the US Chicken Tax of 1964. Ford was getting around it with Ford Transit only a couple of years ago. They were built in Turkey. They had "Rear Seats" that if you act them funny, were rear seats. They come in, but because they had rear seats they could skirt some tariff laws. Once in the US, the rear seats were thrown away. In the 70s Japanese trucks wouldn't come in with truck beds. The beds were made in the US and attatched here.

I honestly started looking into getting one for a possible first vehicle because of the fact that the gas mileage is great and it could fit into my garage right next to my lawn mower because of how small they are. Found some with the 600 CC 5 speed manual AC/radio and airbags to be up to texas standards and requirements of it needing an airbag in order to be made road legal. Been looking for some already in my state because importing might take a while. But I honestly don’t know how long it actually takes so it maybe not be as long as I think. Any recommendations? Cause unlike a lot of people in my town I don’t want to take out a loan to start making payments on some sort of sport or muscle car and don’t want some big ol truck that sucks up gas like me with a Dr. pepper during a gaming session on a day off.
@ohheyitspaul
5 ай бұрын
Tbh these don't really have that amazing of gas mileage when you're driving them on US roads going 45-55mph (basically their max speeds) cus their RPM is screaming at that speed. I don't think airbags even became an option until some 1999 models, but it's an optional addon. You don't need airbags for it to be legal. Just 25 years or older. Even with airbags you won't have legs anymore anyway if you get in an accident that needs airbags. I wouldn't really recommend one for a first vehicle. Nothing really 25+ years old for a first vehicle. Unless you have the patience and are willing to learn maintenance for these old vehicles because things will break and not work right simply due to their age.
@daslynnter9841

@@ohheyitspaulso what do you recommend instead for $5k? an equally old, impractical, full sized vehicle? where maintenance is just as heavy but also harder and costs more? nah youd probably recommend a car payment, cus not like new cars ever have problems on top of the payments and mandatory full insurance. everyone i know who went with old cash cars was better off than people who financed new ones. debt is the worst thing you could ever recommend, especially for someone looking for a first car.
