I love that you’re a highly educated woman and you employ a common sense approach to the scientific data. I remember getting prescribed a mega dose of D that you would only take once in awhile. Common sense told me no…so I’ll get mine up a bit and keep levels at your suggestion. I know you’ll keep us updated! 🧡🧡

At my last physical, I had a blood draw and my doctor was surprised that my vit D was so high…he was surprised that I wasn’t exhibiting symptoms of excessive vitamin d! Now I take a lower dose of D3 +K2 daily.

I have 11.68, so i just started taking 4 drops of D3 + K2 per day. That's what my doctor recommended. I didn't know it was related to the risk of heart failure, thank you for giving us all this information

Dr Dray here on KZitem has a great video about whether or not sunscreen causes Vitamin D deficiency. Sunscreen doesn't block all UVB, so it probably doesn't affect the Vitamin D and she even suggests that since it does block UVA, it may even enhance the Vitamin D because the skin isn't messing with the UVA damage.

As there are two different ways of measuring 25(OH)D levels in the world so the units being used is very important and should always be quoted. There is ng/mL (sometimes written as μg/L) and nmol/L and one is 2.5 times higher than the other. So 100ng/mL and 250nmol/L are identical levels, so ask your doctor which units are being used.

I'm always on 50k units weekly. My latest labs on Vit D was 32 (level is actually lower than 3 month prior labs) and my calcium was 10.3. I have a slightly-high hematocrit. I used to be anemic and all of the sudden my iron levels went up and my calcium, to the point when it begins to become clinically a bit high. I wonder why my levels are still low while taking 50k units/wk...

With a calcium level of 10.3, I would have my doctor check your PTH levels. That number should be low (inverse to calcium). If not, you may have a parathyroid adenoma, as I did.

Dr Susan in this video you stated taking Vit K along with Vit D. You should be more specific, but perhaps you did not know. It is actually Vit K2 and not Vit K as you stated. Taking Vit K2 (MK-7) along with Vit D3 helps calcium deposit in the bones and not the arteries…..just in case someone wanted a correct explanation as to why you should ALWAYS take the 2 supplements together. Please google the info or pull up cardiologists doctors on KZitem for a full explanation…..

I heard it's best to take vitamin D3 and K2 separately so they don't compete for absorption as they are both fat soluble vitamins. Is there a K2 dose range and non-sponsored brands you recommend? Thank you!

Firstly you need to follow the advise of your doctor, not random people on KZitem. It is very important that they identify why it is high and that you follow their advice carefully. 25(OH)D (also known as 25-hydroxy) is the way the body stores and moves vitamin d round the body. The levels can vary over a wide range with no effect, assuming it is never too low or too high. 1,25(OH)D in the blood, along with the parathyroid hormones, is used to control blood calcium levels (the parathyroid is not the same as the thyroid but very near it). High 1,25(OH)D will lead to high blood calcium (hypercalcemia) and this is very damaging to the body in the long term and makes you feel very unwell. Unlike 25(OH)D levels , the 1,25(OH)D are very tightly controlled by the body. There are a number of possible causes of high 1,25(OH)D including lymphoma and sarcoidosis, which is why you need to talk to your doctor (probably an endocrine specialist) so the cause can be identified.

There are several metabolites in the pathway of vitamin D in our body but the primary one that is usually measured is 25 hydroxy vitamin D, and that value is a little bit high. As I mentioned values closer to 40 are perfectly adequate. Certainly nothing to worry about but I would lower it down a little bit if I were taking care of you!

2 items: what about Vitamin D level if you have Cancer? 2nd, when talking about K, you should mention that MK- 7 is the K Vitamin you want. At least the product you use the K is MK-7.

Your honesty is to be commended. I am an 76 yr old Australian female and have only once, last year had a slightly low Vit D level. I took a supplement for 6 months, another blood test and was advised to cease from that point. We have a lot of sunshine here, particularly up in Queensland so usually everyone, other than those in care homes or confined to indoors , get enough by just getting out and about in daily lives. Our doctor is very proactive but is careful of supplements which may cause other problems which you have outlined.

Vitamin D3 is the primary vitamin that we are talking about. Vitamin D is a general term that applies to several different vitamins in that category.
