In 2015 I delivered a TEDx talk at the London Business School that ultimately went viral racking up over 5 million views. It was picked up by TED.com and has garnered millions more since.
The question I get most often is 'how do I get a talk to go viral?' (Right after, 'how do I get a TED talk?')
The answer to the second question I answer in the video. Getting a talk to go viral is all about having favor with the algorithm -- making sure you have plenty of likes, lots of comments, and that you're getting on others' playlists. The other key factor is watch time and making sure that your talk holds people's attention.
My go-to talks when preparing for my own event were Sir Ken Robinson's TED talks. I studied his delivery style, his content, his pauses and movement. Everything was a component in my mind of how to deliver a talk masterfully.
In the midst of preparing, I also read How to Talk Like TED and How To Give a TED Talk, both of which analyze what others have done and make recommendations. Though, to be perfectly candid, I wanted the ideas and the execution of the talk to be different than most.
I'll leave that for you and the millions of views to decide...
