Case in point compiance is an option. I stopped to help a truck, was carjacked by two druggies from cali. They trained thier guns on me and told me to get out of the car "ok they want the car". Ive already got descriptions from my quick glance before lowering my gaze to look non aggressive (thank you training in the US Army), and determined if they just want the car they can take the damn car. Once they saw I was compliant, they lowered thier guns (affirming my thought about just wanting my car and not to shoot me), then they drove off in my car and I saw them later that day after my descriptions landed them in custody, and ID'd them to the Highway patrol. If at any point they said get in the car or scoot over or trained his gun on me again once I stepped out we would have had a different scenario, the way I saw it, if shooting me was thier goal they would have already shot me. Compliance is quite literally probably the best option if you have reason to suspect you could resolve the issue without violence, they are a person too, a piece of shit sure, but if nobody has to die or be injured, all the better.
@Person01234

Absolutely. As much as the philosophy of trying to present "realistic" disarming techniques is better than the fantasy shit on a lot of channels, what these guys should bear in mind is that they have practiced these things, most of their viewers won't, and even then in a real situation it's still incredibly dangerous. Their viewers will be more emboldened to try and "get out" of a situation with these techniques and just end up dead, because that's what is going to happen with your average joe. If someone is pointing a gun at you because they want your wallet, give them your damn wallet. It's not worth it. If they were looking to just shoot you and take your wallet, you'd never even have had the chance to do anything. These techniques would really be most useful in some sort of hostage situation but then hostage takers aren't usually punks who will get right up in your face. Sometimes they are and maybe that's where these apply most. In real life most petty burglars and thieves are not looking to up their theft charge to a murder charge and those who are (you usually hear stories from countries without proper law enforcement) aren't fucking around waiting for you to disarm them, they've already shot you.

Make the Attacker talk. A simple question will suffice " ok, what do you want?". Right after you say those words be prepared to engage. By forcing him to to think and talk you will have granted yourself at least half a second of reaction time coupled with the fact that YOU knew you were gonna react regardless of the answer will put you at a significant time advantage. Try it out with friends ( of course without real weapons) and see how they just cant react fast enough when they have to think of an answer to a question.

there's one rule that is paramount for any technique: your body must be used to excert any technique under most stressful and abrupt situations - being able to act immediately, resolute, and ceaseless is a serious point of vital importance. you need to train yourself to quickly identify a situation and act and react accordingly... and preferably without first bothering to consciously analyze what's actually happening or finding that the only thing you're fighting is your being scared stiff for endless seconds.

I would like to ask a question. I've seen your videos on disarming an assailant using a semi auto handgun and it works great. You talk about getting both hands on the weapon and truly works with autos but I have not seen any done with revolvers. Can you do a video on that. The reason I ask is that if you grab the cylinder of a cocked revolver and the person pulls the trigger you are going to loose fingers in most cases which will cause you to release the weapon and then your right back where you began. I would love to see something along this line. Thank you for the videos.

I have been held at gunpoint twice in my life and I could not do any thing. I had to give my wallet and save my life. Whoever has done it has never been aiming within two inches of my chest, that's a lie. They have always kept their distance. A gun is held in two hands and close to your body, ready to fire and react backwards. Something very important, the thief first came alone and tree seconds later another armed man appeared, of course there was nothing to do.

I always had a question because I never had the experience to approach a real gun : When the guy shoot the upper part will move back really fast, if I grab that part (like in the video) don't I put my hand in danger ? Also the gun get really hot when it shoots doesn't it ? It may be dumb questions for experts but I really wonder !
@getoffmylawn8986
7 жыл бұрын
Beast instinct Not dumb questions. Yes, the slide (top half of the gun) will try to go back, but with a tight grip on it you'll cause the gun to malfunction, which necessitates clearing the malfunction for any more shots to be fired. Most thugs wouldn't have any idea how to do this fast enough to be a continuing threat. You might get the meat of your hand pinched, a small price to pay for saving your life, and the heat from a single shot is barely felt.

the method at 1:00 I got a few questions. What if you miss that initial grab? Second, what is he going to be doing while you have both hands on the gun? It seems you could be doing something more active (like striking) with those hands then holding onto the weapon. I like the method from behind more, because even if you miss grabbing it, you aren't fucked. I understand that a lot of concepts in self defense can lead to your death from a mistake, but relying on grabbing the gun with both hands as your main means for not getting shot seems shabby. I used to train gun defenses this way (the Krav way) until finding some other stuff that I prefer. Basically, I think you should step in and get the gun out of the way WITHOUT having to necessarily rely on grabbing it, just like the gun from behind method you showed. Grabbing the gun, which is about 1 inch, does not seem like a good idea to bet your life on.

In the Sand Island hostage crisis in Honolulu on February 6, 1996, John Miranda had a shotgun duct taped to the back of Tom McNeil's neck and his hand tape to the gun so that even if the police sharpshooters got a one shot kill, the weight of Miranda's falling corpse would pull the trigger and kill McNeil. Heat, humidity, sweat and McNeil repeatedly shifting his head throughout the hours of the crisis loosened the tape enough so that when Miranda started counting down to execute McNeil, McNeil had enough freedom of movement to spin to his left in a manner similar to the redirect Ryan demonstrates at 2:05. The muzzle narrowly passed over McNeil's shoulder, and the shotgun blast missed him. He then grabbed the gun to keep Miranda from pulling it back and held on until the police shot and killed Miranda. Though McNeil wasn't trained in any fighting techniques to disable Miranda once the struggle began, I thought his actions were a great real life example good tactics and technique for redirecting a firearm.

That situation with the loved ones was fantastic. Aside from subtly re-positioning the scenario, which was smart, feigning compliance is genius too. It's a great way to cause the aggressor to "lower their guard" so to speak. Once they think they have all the power, it's easier to surprise them.

oh realy? what is the man with a guns left hand doing . waiting ?😂
@sergioj972

It does not really matter what he is doing with the left hand. ¿What would you expect him to do? ¿To punch him? ¿Would you REALLY just try to punch someone that is trying to disarm you and hope to knock him out or something? It would finish same as if you try to punch someone that is applying a wristlock to you, your punch will hit him with little effect and you will end with your wrist or some fingers broken. Other option is to try to grab the pistol with your left hand and try to... pull?? The fact is that he grabs the weapon that way to prevent this from happening. I mean, you can try to wrestle or something, but is like trying to wrestle your way out of a jiujitsu lock. The technique is superior, you can pull as much as you want, you won't take the gun out of there.

Maybe he said it during the seminar, but it was left out in the video: the thumb is the weakest part of a person's grip, so when disarming, you want to torque the weapon in the direction of their thumb to make the take away. This works be it a pistol, rifle, or shotgun, and is the core of the take away, regardless if they are a lefty or righty shooter. Maybe it's taught differently now (I learned from my dad who actually had to do multiple disarms in CQB during Vietnam), but from what I saw in the video, he was adhering to this fundamental rule of disarmament. Great video. Be sure to practice with a friend, because it's one thing to know the concept, but another to actually do it. Be sure to tell your friend to attempt to resist you as if it were real, because if it happens for real, they ain't making it easy for you. Of course, the best defense is to stay out of cities and other areas known to be criminal hot spots. Win a fight by avoiding the fight altogether, when you can.

Context should dictate your response. I like that because it is so true. We can not predict every situation. That's why the military has METT-TC. Which defined is: METT-TC. (US, military) Initialism of mission, enemy, terrain, troops available, time, and civilian considerations. These are the things that have to be considered in each engagement and in each situation when making decisions. This can be adapted to any reality based street defense. The enemy on the street is looking for the ambush. This was my go to answer for anything another soldier asked me in a "what if" situation. I would say METT-TC.

Would work well with punks. However, a trained shooter will drop his target at least 6 ft to 10 ft afar. Just in case, like in a kidnapping or carjacking scenario when the person wielding the gun comes in close range, you probably could use these techniques. Realistically training on a regular basis will save you, not just watching video and resting assured. If you are in a high security threat environment, you will need regular hands-on training with guns, knives and grappling - submissions, apart from striking and kicking... i. e. Complete Training. Good video!

If someone came up and just wanted my wallet...I'd happily let them have. Hell I'd laugh. It would be way less stressful and cheaper to replace my $40 wallet and get new cards and new ID than possibly a medical bill, seeing a loved one hurt or killed or me being killed or having to get an attorney to represent me in trial for a justifiable homicide. No telling when it comes to someone threatening you and yours. My opinion, Good way to judge...if they're in your home or vehicle or trying to take your mobility away...i.e., "get on the ground" or trying to tie you up. It's time to Flip your switch and get to work. When you've given compliance and they seem to want more...get to work.

Any account of those techniques actually working? Dont get me wrong, but with all those "what to do" videos, I'd assume that any attacker nowadays would be well aware of the possible counteractions. All it takes to render ALL those videos useless...is for attackers to stop putting the guns against our bodies. A skilled shooter would never let you touch the gun. Not before you make contact with a bullet 1st. So save us this nonsense. If you find yourself on the wrong side of a gun, you'd better have some negotiation skills cause chances are you wont get to grip anything.

I feel like we should always be looking to improve the system (whatever system that is), but creating new techniques, especially ones to be learned in addition, rather than instead of currently taught techniques, tends to be the problem. It's Hick's law. The more options you have, the longer it will take to make a decision on which to use. If you have 1 or 2 options for a multitude of problems, then the response to the attack becomes clear, and you aren't subconsciously trying to think of which technique would absolutely be best.

Disarmament is the most important thing in this scenario, not holding the pistol and then attacking whilst the perpetrator still has a hold of the firearm, this advice is not correct, sorry. Holding the front of the pistol whilst grabbing his wrist and pushing it outside the perpetrators body will make him let go every time, you need that firearm as the highest priority.

The distance isn't very big, but with that technique (trying to grap the gun) isn't it still a big risk trying to go for it? You are counting on the attacker being slower and not reacting in time, while you will be able to grab the gun and get a hold of it (not missing), before he can either move it away or just shot you. Of course this happens all extremely fast, I am keepin this in mind, but still. I don't want to criticise you, just being curious.

I like your videos but I feel like this is dangerous to do with a revolver. Maybe a simple adjustment like grabbing the wrist instead of the gun itself. Its kinda like grabbing a knife, you grab that revolver and it goes off, you gonna lose a finger or something. Grabbing a automatic pistol by the slide is fairly safe, most guns are gonna go out of battery when the slide grabbed like that. Then if the trigger is pulled it won't fire and the trigger would need to be reset. Even if the gun goes off, the slide isn't gonna move and a round can't eject. Slides on automatic pistols aren't scary, lots of people will ride too high and interrupt slide movement with their thumb without even noticing, causing cycling issues. Lots of times they think they have a mechanical problem. A revolver you aren't gonna stop by grabbing and the gasses are more than enough to severely hurt your hand.

Great concepts guys. I like how Ryan redirected his partner to set up the attack. Psychologically, if the bad guy is approaching you it's because they want something. Feigning compliance is a great way to set up your environment for your attack. Great points on the reality of gun disarms and identifying the fact that if someone wants to shoot you they're just gonna shoot you. The best way to train for that is understanding what to do in the event of gunshot wound self or buddy care. Some people may believe that the bad guy will shoot you if you move, but this isn't often the case the law of averages suggests that the bad guy is focusing on the thing they want. They anticipate or allow for expected movement, ie, hands coming up or Ryan moving his friend out of the way while reassuring the bad guy he is going to give them what they want. Great concepts guys. Keep up the good work.

I really love and appreciate all that FT loads up because it's straight forward and no bullshit. What I strongly was missing in this video that the attacker NEVER uses their other arm in the close quarter situations. Why? I'm sure that unless the attacker has his other arm tied down or impaired, they will use it immediately. I would love to see that covered that at the point of redirection there's an eye jab or hook coming up from the attacker while they are pulling back on the gun in the same time and how do I deal with that?

Keep it simple. Every complicated technique will fail and you'll be fucked (unless you're really lucky, but luck is not a good friend to count on)

What about after I have complied, after I have give what he wants, and he turned his back to me (with gun on his hand)? How do I submit him? Lets say he took away something important

I agree with most of these principles -I've trained for many years in karate, and one thing I've always said is there's too many techniques/katas --better to get a few moves learned properly.

They teach a lot of good things on here, but this want work in real life considering most robbers want stand that close up on you and most of these cowards rob in numbers. Your biggest advantage would be seeing this situation evolving ahead of time.

You cant grab the gun like that with a revolver. If the gun goes off, the escaping gases from the sides of the chamber would blow your fingers off.

I wouldn't recommend doing that technique with a revolver. If the gun goes, it's going to seriously injur your hand.

Keep the gun away from your head and ears because if it goes off it's gonna be loud and make your ears ring really bad, maybe even temporally make you deff. It's louder when the gun is facing towards you.

In the krav maga classes that I take they teach us a technique where we leverage the pistol up and back. Using our other hand's wrist as a barrier on top of their wrist. It's very simple and very effective.

There's some technic or something if you loose the grip of the gun trying one of these? if the bad guy pulls the gun when you're trying to take it from him, I mean that could be a certain deadly shot if you're in a bad luck...

Nice to see a smart person who knows limitations. Better to learn one or two simple concepts to redirect ,control and disarm , instead of ten things to try and remember. I really like this guy. Very responsible advice 👍.

They’re also taught from ridiculous points of origin. What kind of moron is going to hyper extend his arm with a gun in his hand for others to see? Realistically that gun will be as close to him/concealed as he can get it.

All those techniques for defending gun attacks presuppose that the attacker is an idiot! Because only an idiot assaults or threatens with a gun from a close distance. Nevertheless It can work for a knife attack

This is super dangerous shit right here. You can watch videos all over the Internet of people trying to disarm a gun and lose their life. You better be confident and go all out if you're gonna try something like this.

I can't help notice most movements are moves to inside. The defender has both hands on the firearm ( good) but by moving to the inside it leaves you open for a right right hand. Would it. It be better to make the first move to the outside (same distance ) and prevent the aggressors right hand from coming into play ?

its always shown from a tip point of the gun . what if the gun is on the side of your dome also during a moving situation . such as robbery . mabe 1.5 lb pistol vs 9mm.
