To whoever is doing this and NOT working, go to FCP, to the menu bar, sequence > settings and in compressor make sure it is set to the same one you set in MPEG stream clip (Apple Intermediate Codec).. otherwise it won't work... Thanks a million! This saved me so much time! Thanks a million!

Followed all the settings you mentioned on MPEG streamclips...saved as a preset...dropped one of my clips into MPEG streamclips...used the preset... exported it to desktop.....took the exported file and loaded it into FinalCut...STILL had to render it...I will admit it rendered 10 times as fast as it did previously (all my files were imported direct from a Canon 7D)...So converting my entire raw footage to Apple Codec will likely help the speed of my project, but so far STILL needs rendering :(

When you import your footage from any camera into final cut through log and capture it automatically converts to apple proress. If you get your clips off the internet just use compressor to convert to pro ress. I am impressed with how you made apple intermediate codec work, but I believe pro ress has the better quality with final cut.

For me, it didn't make it so it doesn't render at all, but it definitely helped because now videos render about 800% faster! It's definitely worth downloading and using - saves tons of time.

one question: why did you select "No" when FCP asked if you wanted to change your timeline to match the clip settings? That right there will cause you to render.

ok I created a new preset and went through this process 3 times and each time I still had to render, was there a significance to putting the new file in the same folder as original? that's the only thing I did differently. ugh!!!

OMG thank you - wondering whats the relevance of keeping the original file once you've onverted it? Also, when I selected presets, I had one a check mark in the preset mngr window, there was no option for FCP or to name it anything in particular, any idea why?

This is not a good idea to do. You are really damaging your footage by using such a bad codec. Its ok to make proxies with this codec then re-link your original footage to hold top quality though.
