04:58 - Kevlar is not fictional. It's a very durable chemical fiber most commonly used for bulletproof vests. Although you wouldn't be able to "laminate" titanium with it, it IS used for making armor.
@babalonkie
10 ай бұрын
Correct... but you can actually stick or sandwich Kevlar between Titanium and vice versa. British police standard patrol body armour is Kevlar with Titanium threads woven through/around it and then laminated in a soft resin, giving the Kevlar enough stopping power to stop anything but a high penetrating large calibre round and flexing enough to stop rounds but not too much so to minimise local force trauma. It also stops slash attacks whilst allowing the user flexibility. This armour provides more second hit protection and flexibility than plate armour, but at a greater cost. Also DU, Titanium, Kevlar and rubber combinations are common materials in composite tank armour. Robocop was literately modelled from a tank lol.

I would like to add... During the Directive 4 shutdown, it was not the directive causing pain, it was the directive shutting down the mechanical side of Robocop... which in turn caused pain. The human side is what fought on and eventually overrides the mechanical side. It's supposed to be a reveal of the equilibrium murphy has found, as just before when he was arresting Bodecker his human side wanted to kill him but his mechanical side overrides him. The two sides of Robocop make him a "better" cop. The mechanical side prevented him "misbehaving" first, then the second time the human side prevented a bad guy "misbehaving".

it's like trying to choke yourself with your hands. At some point you'll choke yourself out to the point that you stop choking yourself. It KEEPS causing pain because Murphy keeps trying to violate it. When he stops trying to arrest Dick Jones (which is to around when ED-209 turns up), it stops trying to shut him down. See also the final confrontation: His system warns him that he's at the borderline of violating Directive 4, but doesn't actually try and shut down because he's not actually attempting to arrest Jones.

Just a bit of literary advice. The terms "anti-hero" and "villain" aren't interchangable. There were several instances where you called the movies villains "anti-heroes" and that's just flat out wrong. An anti-hero is a protagonist or co-protagonist who doesn't display the typical traits of a hero. They usually display darker or grittier traits and have a rougher demeanor. Think The Punisher or Blade. What you called anti-heroes in the video were simply villains , which are described as the main antagonist of the film that displays evil or unsympathetic behavior evoking an intense feeling of dislike from the audience.
@MaaZeus

This. If the hero is "the end justifies the means" type then he is a good example of an antihero. Reasons may also be entirely selfish revenge even if the result are ultimately good so he is, in the end, a hero.

The remake missed the point, hard. Murphy is shot in the head, extreme brain damage. He then literally dies. No matter what happens after, he can never go back to how things were. His old life is irreversibly lost. Large parts of his brain no longer exist, RoboCop is essentially a robot that has access to some fragments of Murphy's memories, seemingly indirrctly, like feelings and sensations. New movie, he's the same guy in a cool robot suit.

Also in regards to the weight of the suit in 1987. The suit was really warm inside, hence the loss of fluid and added air conditioning. I'm not saying it wasn't heavy but the issue was heat. Weight would make you sweat sure but it would exhaust him more. Air conditioning doesn't help with how heavy something is.

@darkne55inside

The one thing the 2014 Robocop succeeded at more than the original, was that the real enemy was corporate. While the first movie focused on Boddicker, it took the second movie to point out that no one in OCP actually cared about the people. And the third was a mix of messages in my opinion.
@mrfrankiej932
9 ай бұрын
The first film showed Boddicker as a real enemy and valid threat. Here's the guy directly responsible for Murphy's mutilation and murder. But as you move on through the film you realise he's only the puppet of Jones. I think it showed the corporate enemy, but in a more subtle way. When ED-209 failed it's demonstration and slaughtered an executive; "Dick, I'm very disappointed." Not disappointed because it turned a young executive into pulp, but because a delay could cost tens of millions of more dollars before a profit can be made. Also Morton explains how they've actively; "restructured the police department according to risk factor." A fancy way of saying they've moved prime candidates for their Robocop program into places where they're most likely to be murdered so they can take advantage of their flesh. When Robocop is introduced back into the same police precinct, Morton shows about the same level of respect he would to his toaster. He calls the shots and acts like an all around asshole. Police officers are also talking about striking and how OCP is neglecting them and their predicaments. When Robocop attempts to arrest Jones he discovers not only does he have a hidden program preventing such an action, but that Jones is willing to let an ED-209 lose on him and he even calls in the SWAT team after he see's Robocop has gotten away. He couldn't care less if anybody got caught in the crossfire. And to add to his corporate greed, apart from attempting to destroy Robocop he also had Morton murdered.
@TheTurnipKing
9 ай бұрын
The first movie makes the "villain" unrepentantly corporate. Even Boddicker is presented as just another (somewhat unofficial) branch of OCPs "good business is where you find it" mantra. Even the Security Concepts branch of OCP that resurrects Murphy, was essentially responsible for his death. View again the Bob Mortimer scene where he's talking about placing candidates in high risk areas and going to prototype within 90 days.
@NoahSpurrier
27 күн бұрын
I believe that initially saving his left arm but then Bob Morton seeing this and saying, “I thought we agreed on full body prosthesis. Loose the arm.” was a reference to the Six Million Dollar Man who was also a cyborg, but in that series he still had his left arm. That was the only part not replaced.

Kevlar is an aromatic polyamide fiber with incredible tensile strength and heat resistant properties. The fiber can be woven into a fabric or imbedded in resin to form a ballistic composite. In addition to it’s utility as a high-strength material, it is often sold as a fire retardant fabric under the trademark Nomex, which is often a catch-all name for fire retardant clothing, though that’s a bit of a misnomer. Much of the market is actually chemically treated cotton, which is not actual Nomex.

In the first movie Murphy was dead, he just got some traces of his memories and regained some of his humanity but he wasn't the old Murphy anymore, he was barely a corpse inside.

That's even hinted at in RoboCop 2, when the newer prototypes commit suicide as soon as they learn of what they became! Anyway, I think both versions of RoboCop still have very fictional character traits: in the originals it is stated Murphy's sense of duty is what kept him alive, while in the remake Dr. Norton persuaded him to keep going for the sake of his family. Both reasons seem fairly shallow for a guy who's actually experiencing all he did at the time, and his ability to overcome that sort of trauma has some superhero qualities in itself.

I guess OCP just wanted a human brain to control the cybernetic body. ED209 showed how flawed a robot was with only an electronic brain. When Murphy was brought in critically wounded, OCP saw it's chance: a brain and some other living tissue that can be put inside the RoboCop program would overcome that error. Alex Murphy died on that hospital table, period. But the brain was kept alive for the RoboCop project. As we see in the movie, the rest of Alex's body is discarded off. OCP wiped Alex's brain of it's memories so it wouldn't cause for any other unforseen problems. Too bad for OCP, other events triggered some memories to come back and eventually restore a bit of the Murphy persona. In the end, Robocop embraces the Murphy persona as his own... What would happen next with Robocop and his newly found Murhpy persona would have been an interessting story. Too bad they only made a bunch of crappy sequels that tried but never truely ventured there.

4:00 I had always wondered how much of Officer Murphy's organic body was remaining at this point of the film. As mentioned, a camera was linked to his optic nerves. This tells me his eyes were already removed, and a single handsized rotatable device was implanted over his eye sockets. It's unclear if Alex's face was still attached to his head at this time. The reason why I say this is based on the Doctor's words, "Prep him for surgery." My hypothosis is that at Alex's head, torso, and left arm were still mostly organic at this point - with obvious exceptions to any life-support systems already installed, including the computer interface installed into his brain. Based on the advertisement for artifical hearts earlier in the film, I'm assuming his organic heart was already replaced. However, moving forward, his brain and face were most likely removed during the surgery and installed into / onto the new prototype body. I can't even begin to discribe how horrified Alex would have been seeing everything taking place in these clips. Even with former identity "wiped clean", he would still have a very basic sense of self like that of a newborn baby. I like the fact that Alex's "personality wipe" was not as effective as the build team had hope for: while he wasn't able to recall everything that took place in his former life, he was able to access glimpses of his core memories. Like a good detective, he used these clues to rediscover what was lost.

His altered behavior was due to Dr. Faxx messing with his programming, not because of pain. -Nothing in any of the films suggest flashbacks trigger RoboCop's physical pain or vice versa. -In the 2014 remake Dr. Norton reduces Robo's dopamine levels to keep him in working conditions after being overloaded with street crime footage, including footage from his own assassination attempt, not because he displayed feelings upon seeing what was left of him in the mirror scene. -If RoboCop's face is his organic, living one, why does it feel cold to touch, as his wife states? -If it's a replica, why does it still have the bullet wound?

I consider the modern remake as a fanfiction and a bad one at that there is only one Robocop and he came out back in the 80s

Just to make this video little more accurate. Small fact Dick Jones from the first movie was the VP of OCP not the president. How can you forget the old man who is the real president of OCP. You even mention the old man when he asks Murphy what his name is

Yeah, Vallon was quite weak, but that might be because the real villain was Sellers.

This is exactly what separate 2 movie between the original and 2014 remake Peter Weller as Robocop potrayed as an upgrade for existing law enforcement, because they view human is not effective enough and machine is not competent proven by the malfunction of ED-209 during presentation as it brutally killed 1 board member. So making human with cybernetic enhancement is the go to and it's a big success, proven by how OCP tried to make another Robocop in Robocop 2, although none of the effort proven success. Sadly they made an Evil Robocop instead because they use criminal's brain. Joel Kinnaman as Robocop potrayed as a downgrade from a machine law enforcement, because machine in this world run perfectly and Robocop only serve a purpose as tool to help entering US market, once his role done he need to be discarded. I just wish they maybe tweak the script as Robocop 2014 which seen as a downgrade initially turns out to be an upgrade from pure machine, for example he is not instantly kill people, instead making a deal to catch bigger criminal or Murphy did something that will make OCP think "Hmmmm maybe our machine is not perfect after all."

Original was great. Remake? Production was great but lost its soul, kinda ironic really. Honestly, I barely remember anything from the remake. Passion from the people making the shines through regardless of the production quality. These movies are a great example. The reboot tried but not very hard it seems.

So they can bring a guy back from the dead and they use it to make a toaster cop? Seems like they could have done plenty of better things with that

The feelings and pain are what made him human and if you remember in robocop 2 cain had all his nervous system still intact so how do we know if he had all his still? They never said and id like to think he still had his feelings he may be the future of law enforcement but hes still officer alex j Murphy under all that metal
