I’ve had recent success playing dubs just simply kicking at body or bh. It works! Not flashy, but effective!

Where should we aim to contact the ball to hit a flat slice serve? And what is the swing path like for the flat slice serve? 🙏
@PerformancePlusTennis

Hi Jason, Thanks for the great questions. The racquet face should be pointing to the target at contact, but the racquet should be sliding across the ball slightly (depending the degree of slice) to achieve the slice spin. The swing path is very similar to a flat serve: Attacking the ball on edge, pronating to contact, but then skiing across vs. straight through. I hope this helps. Let me know. Thanks, John

Pitchers would think of your " 80/20 " as a cutter where the ball is released a little elliptical but not as much as a slider and thrown hard. Cut fast ball. And i get your variation from the Eighty twenty to more of an outright slice that takes the opponent off the court. And importantly all the variation in between. I love the hard slightly cut serve that buckles into the receivers body. Great breakdown. Thanks

Don hello from the Central Florida retirement belt. Just a note to let you know I really enjoy your online instruction. Your videos are spot on. Technically. This video in particular highlights the reality of what is possible for an amateur player. I'm 5'7", 65 yo, 4.0-4.5 player (depending on how my service is going). Been struggling, or rather wasting first serves by going for flat heaters. Your suggestion of instead going for flat slices makes a lot of sense. And this strategy will dovetail into a more reliable slice or top second serve. Yours, Doug

Yes, in fact I primarily practiced second serve, because at rec level, if I get enough kick and pace (doesn't have to be a lot), not very many can attack and kill my serve. When the second serve is reliable, then I can vary spin to give more pace for a first serve. Also I practice placement because at rec level, a well placed serve with adequate spin and pace will set you up for the next point. This is what Edberg did. He hit kick serves for both first and second, and he came in to the net behind both serves.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. These are all very good points that everyone should take into consideration! The first serve does not have to be the best serve you can possibly come up with… It’s simply your first attempt and you can make it anything you want! And great work, practicing your second serve! Best, John.

@@PerformancePlusTennis hey thanks for the reply. i was typing the message at end of your video so the timing came up. what i would really like you to help is what to do after contact? some coach says extend whole arm, some coach says to bend the elbow after contacting the ball.some coach says snap the wrist and so on.. would appreciated any input from you. thanks.

@@manitsony6703 Hi, If you produce long-axis rotation from the shoulder (commonly called pronation), then your racquet head will advance past the hand with the face pointing out to the right (for a right hander). Your elbow should bend as you attempt to keep the upper arm (from the shoulder to the elbow) up. Just look at images of Pete Sampras, Boris Becker, and others with great serve motions. Here is a link to Pete Sampras' serve: kzitem.info/news/bejne/kaqGmKSjkZZqeqAsi=WdDkXzOlbrHebb41 Let me know if you have questions or would like personal assistance with your serve. I have a couple options to help you. Best, John
