As a former hairstylist, I cannot express how important it is to show, rather than tell, how much you want off. It's something I always tried to clarify, especially with longer haired clients. Most people will say that they want an inch or two off but will *show* that they only want a centimeter or two. Two centimeters, BTW, is less than in inch. So it's very important to either look at a ruler/tape measure, with your stylist, or show her on your hair how much you want taken off.

I'm like CUT ALL THE DAMAGE. Lol. But I personally don't go the salon because it is expensive and what I get done, I can do at home (I only dye my hair black and straighten to trim).

The last time I went in for a trim (February), I specifically told my hairdresser that I was growing my hair our for my wedding next year and could not afford to lose less than an inch. My hair was somewhere between armpit and bra strap, and I walked out of there with shoulder length hair. She took off like four inches. 😭 A few weeks ago, I started noticing that I could use a trim, so I decided to trim it myself. It's not perfect but at least I didn't sacrifice four inches this time!!

Ugh I'm so sorry to hear that 😭 It's really hard to find a stylist that you trust. That's why I show exactly how much I want on my actual hair. A lot of people prefer to trim their own hair so whatever works best for you 🖤

I'm so sorry that happened to you!! 😭 I've converted to trimming my hair at home too. I've had too many unpleasant experiences at salons. And now that I've embraced my natural 2b hair type I'm very picky about the products I use and I don't heat straighten my hair anymore. The last time I got my hair cut at a salon I told the stylist that I didn't want it straightened, I wanted it styled with my natural waves. And he literally had no clue how to use the diffuser to dry and style my waves.. He was a nice guy, but I left feeling like I totally wasted my time and money. Ever since then I've been trimming at home. My hair is just past my shoulders and my goal is to grow it as long as Anna's. So since I don't color my hair and I don't plan on really changing the overall style anymore, there's just no need for me to go to a salon. I'm saving money too, so it's good all around.

Trims are personal. I got my hair cut in Jan 2019 and recently cut in early dec 2019. So almost a whole year. The hairstylist said I need about an inch cut. She sounded surprided when I told her the last time I had a haircut. I never dye it, straighten it, blow dry, or anything. I try to use good products and non restrictive hair styles. And luckily it goes a long way for me.

She also probably has thicker strands and if her hair is straight, it is even easier to forgo trims. My strands are thick but since my hair is curly, my hair breaks. Straight hair with large strands is the most resilient.

This is what I did too. My ends were in like an uneven U ish shape and had gotten damaged because they were never trimmed from when I first grew my hair out long. I had my mom cut all the uneven, dead split ends off and it's now even and bluntly straight across. I did lose a significant amount of length because I honestly should have done it a lot earlier, but I just HATE my hair being cut. I feel like part of my soul is leaving me. I know crazy lol! But now my ends feel and look so good and I got a lot more volume in my hair. I'm just excited to see my hair grow long again but much better looking and healthier with trims. Gotta see how often I need trims so that's the next step.

Well, my hair isn't as beautiful as hers since it has always been quite thin. But the only way for me how I was even able to get long hair was to not follow my hairdressers advice on how often to get a haircut ;) Since when I get a hair cut once a year I only can retain my length but not gain any. But since I was tired of having only shoulder-length hair I just skipped cuts. Just my experience of course ;)

I love this! 💖 💖 I just started filming about how I got my hair thicker and consistent trims is a big part of it. Your hair looks nice in a blunt cut, it's still cute with layers. Right now doing three to four months is my sweet spot, but like you said still getting growth. I did every six months last year but my ends only hold up for a few months so I realize I have to go at least 3 times a year to keep the shape I like. Great video! 🖤

@@OrganicallyAnna Aw thank you babe! 💖 So does yours! 😍 I noticed once my hair got to classic its more fragile and I just get splits more easily. I think with longer lengths it's normal, when mine was shorter I could easily go 6 months without a trim to even a year. And also hair texture too, straight and fine hair seems more prone to splits.

I think I am growing out some damage still from my brothers wedding 3 years ago. The stylist FRIED my hair. I had past AP length hair then. The next week I went in and had it chopped to between chin and shoulder length. I've been growing it since then with a few decent trims. I try to micro trim my own hair about 1 cm per month. It is now past bra band length. But I am still seeing A LOT of splits. I search and destroy and a week later it is crazy again. Is this normal? do I just have sensitive to damage hair? or is this still heat damaged hair that I have at my ends now giving me a hard time?

What’s your hair type? Is it naturally straight or wavy? I stopped heat styling over a year ago. Only straighten about 3 times in over a year but completely stopped. With a lot of deep treatment I see that my hair is more of a 2b to maybe 3a. I hate applying products but if I do t apply anything I have frizz issues. I don’t use silicones or sulfates and use natural hair care. Just bought some innersense orgánica, Calia naturals, briogeo and innate hair care. I know I went a little crazy 😂. I am desperate and want to try them all to find my holy grail. Also purchase some murumuru butter, Argan and kukui nut oils which are holy grail for hair especially frizz. Also got some aloe Vera gel the most natural I could find. Any suggestions on what I one product I can use after washing? I know a have a lot of back ups of back ups that I have to use 😂 but when I am done I want to simplify.

How do people who are not allowed to cut their hair for religious reasons deal with split and thin ends?
@stst77

I think they can trim it just not cut it although the really strict ones don’t seem to trim it either so they probably do nothing about it. Think of the Amish. They probably don’t have hair and beauty routines of deep conditioning or oiling their hair. Hair and skin care is probably very basic.

Like you don’t want a curl clump to fall apart mid brush because it was cut in layers 😢 I think I need to start finger coiling my hair out of the shower as well I was cutting every 6 months but my ends get knotty way before that so maybe every three months just the dust the ends hopefully start catching the split ends 😂 Really loved the video thank you for keeping me motivated to not just cut all my hair off 😅 I really want to grow it out but something aye 🤷❤️
