Cloth insulation on cords and cables was what was available prior to flexible plastic. The first plastic (Bakelite) wasn't flexible of course, but often showed up on electrical faceplates.

What about the foil stickers that say 'made in' macau for instance? Does that mean it was def from the 90s?

I just got 2 very unique czhech mercury uranium glass lamps. One has the plug replaced and the other had the whole socket and cord replaced. It was done early in its life or with a old lamp as a donor. Is there a way I can send you pics so you can help me age them?

If parts were replaced then it makes the lamp difficult to date. I would suggest you try ValueMyStuff.com to get their assessment

If I send you a pic, do you think you can help me identify age of 2 heavy wooden lamps?

I was hoping for something a little less vague.... for instance, the cloth covered cords were used by some makers right into the 1950's. What about the date on Bakelite plugs or sockets made from aluminum? Thanks for the try though.

It sounds like you're looking for some fairly advanced information. The tips in this video are intended to apply to a wide variety of lamps. The type of details you're talking about would most likely be on a collector's forum or web site. You might find this web site handy for some of the parts you're trying to ID: www.mosaicshades.com/antique2005/sockets/index.htm
