Let's also remember the Indigenous people that were repaid for their kindness by being slaughtered. Many of those very kind souls took us in and tried to protect us from our persecutors. America's history constantly repeats itself and not in a good way.

@darleenmcclun9615, I can trace back to before civil war, on Dad's side (Creek/Chickasaw Freedmen and Freemen) and Mother's Muscogee/Seminole due to Indian Removal Act, which let to Dawes etc rolls. People have to remember, folks were enslaved on this land by other's arrivals, but not necessarily brought through transatlantic.

@@kelila_1688every single human that ever existed originated from "dark races". There was absolutely no benefit to having light skin until our species moved into cold regions. Its a very recent adaptation to a harsh cold and dark environment. Changes that didnt happen till long after we evolved and developed societies and tools and such. All humans began "dark". And if you look at a "skin map" of the world, youll see skin color of a race is 100% dictated by the weather of the area theyre from. And we all came from africa, the grass plains.

Look at ALL the facts. Large corporations have been taking land from all races over the past 100 years. Small farmers have virtually disappeared no matter which race you consider. This is not primarily a race issue, it's primarily an issue of those who have taking from those who don't.

It's very important. Unfortunately I find that the women in the past did an awful lot of lying about who fathered the children, which makes it almost impossible to find the truth without substantial DNA testing. And if a lot of people are not around who are willing to do the tests then you never find out the truth. And often the people least willing to do the testing today are women.

My paternal family hails from the Charlotte/Statesville area. I can trace back about the same 4 or 5 generations and with pictures. My mother’s side wasn’t as fortunate. They purposefully burned down the records building…twice!

@KBfe2pg, The fees associated with the many geneologic websites, ought to be free for Black Americans. Dna are susceptible to error, I'd rather scour census, Dawes, and info from other countries than submit dna that will be in the hands and discretion of others.

Such important work! Thank you, Ms. Taylor! I stepped into the role of genealogist/archivist of my family about a decade ago. I also learned that WOMEN in my family owned land in the late 1800s and early 1900s in the Carolinas and Virginia. I'm still researching how they lost it and sharing everything I learned with all our living family members. ❤🖤💚

I visited the Museum of Lynching in Alabama, a few years ago, and it is one of the saddest and most enlightening places I have ever visited in the world, and when I say in the world I have been in 5 continents my entire life. This woman was a blessing to our community.
