Good summary. Much is said about the expedition patch, but that's exactly the problem of other "infinite" games. If you're always adding to the power creep, the game becomes a mess of unreasonable numbers. PoE keeps its novelty and feeling of power, where a few million pinnacle boss dps is still the power ceiling (or floor for some people lol). I love the seasonal nature of PoE, and it feels so bad to try and go back to something like Warframe, where power creep and content islands have infested a great game.

I actually liked the expedition patch and people just don't like it because their build/s are no longer powerful and that's the point. It's no longer powerful but not useless. We don't want to be stuck with a game that features 10 best builds. PoE have hundreds, if not thousands, builds to do. Those nerfs on that league is the chance to simply make a huge change in PoE 1 gameplay (Zoom Around and blast everything) and make it methodical, like what they are trying to do in PoE2. I hate powercreep because it'll be like D3 again. But GGG care about their players so they have to step back and and rethink how they would make it that players love it but going to the direction they always wanted. It's controversial but this is one of the unpopular GGG opinion out there. I loved that patch.

The latest record of PoE was 321 000 players with Crucible in April(GGGTweet) and Steamcharts showing 209 000 all time peak steam users at that time. Chris mentioned years ago that about 60% play on steam and if you deduct the console maybe 5-10%? It broke the previous record with over 50 000 players as well which is nuts for a 10 year old game.

PoE is one of the only games in the entire gaming industry that is free to play with no pay 2 win bullshit all over the shop, is actual live service and gets content/improved over time, devs that care about what the community wants (most of the time) and their improving their product. Exactly the opposite of what everyone cries about when you look at most other game devs, it's all either infinite money sinks or quick cash grab and move onto the next project schemes. Other games worth mentioning like that would be Rust and Escape From Tarkov. Except they're buy to play, still seasonal and mostly about loot, with continuous improvements, new content and a continuously growing player pop, while being the top games in their genre. It's almost like... good product means more players happy, means continuous growth and support, eventually more profits.

whole poe design is pushing you to buy stash tabs. Why do you think currency shards exist? This game is unplayable without stash/map tabs and you are literally paying to win if you have those tabs because you can reasonably take and sort more loot, more loot = more currency = more power. Yeah and I know some dude killed all content on his metaslave trapper without any stash tabs, but the 1% of the game dont mean anything.

well, if u really like the game spending 30$ (literally everything u'll ever need) on tabs for 10 years of content is too much to ask I guess. While the game still remains fully playable and enjoyable without them. Also there's like 3 shards that are worth picking up, sounds like u're hoarding actual garbage. Any advanced player will tell u, quality over quantity when it comes to looting in PoE, go faster, drop more loot, only pick up the really good stuff instead of wasting ur time looting trash and even more time selling it. I use 1 premium tab for sales and it's never even full.@@TheSaival

@@TheSaival What you've said is absolutely true, it is designed to push the player to buy tabs at some point. However, the "average" player starting out will spend many, many hours just getting to and through the late campaign. By this point the player will largely be able to determine if they plan to play it long term, or if they don't think the game is for them. If they do decide to continue playing, they can spend $20-30 on a supporter pack (which comes with neat MTX as well), get the 200-300 points, and buy the tabs they need during a sale to keep them going for a very, very long time. Even spending a few $100 (MUCH of which is on unnecessary MTX) is well worth the 4,000 hours and 7 years I've gotten out of it so far, if you want to compare spending $60 on your average game release and playing it for a few weeks.

I strongly disagree with your statement that GGG could survive long with banking in on player trust. The tolerance for that behavoir in the poe community is equal to or less than zero. And they absolutly know that. They have build up alot of trust in one directly, if they suddenly decide to run in the other directly, they are gonna hit a brick wall instantly!

😂😂😂 And you show how ignorant you are 😂😂😂 GGG had to sell out to Tencent 90% of the company just to make poe2 and keep poe 1 running . You clearly don't understand a damn thing about business. This ignorance is why poe according to Chris himself peaked at 200k range vs D4 hitting 7 million. Wake up and smell reality .

The idea that *any* devs don't care is so pointlessly toxic, and it's intellectually lazy as **** - I wish this would go away as a talking point for players. GGG succeeds because of execution - they don't get publisher interference (starting self-published, then moving to hands-off funding). Their team has strong employee retention allowing deep specific skillsets to develop, and they take risks instead of playing it safe. As noted in the video, this means we sometimes get leagues that are a bit of a miss, but the highs more than make up for the lows.

As a veteran player, there's only one thing GGG needs to do in order to keep me interested (which they haven't done for years now) : do meaningful balance changes each patch. How hard can it be really... nerf/buff skills and ascendancies, that's it. So disappointing.
