Dr. William Abdu, Medical Director of the Spine Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, describes what patient-reported outcomes are and how they are used in patient care at the Spine Center. The spine team collects outcomes data from patients, a process unique to Dartmouth-Hitchcock, to continually improve patient care. The process allows for the patient's feelings to be translated into measures of physical function, mental health and severity of symptoms scores. In turn, this data helps our staff understand the patient's burden of illness to better direct treatment options. The results are published for anyone to view at: patients.d-h.org/spine/spine_q....
