Penny Murphy, President and Owner, Pioneer Linens:
Pioneer Linens is a third generation, 111-year-old retail linen business.
Camille Murphy-Kubicek, Pioneer Linens:
We have people that come in who just want small gifts, and we also have people who want to outfit all of their homes, their boats, their planes.
Ronnie Rubin, Store Manager, Pioneer Linens:
Which makes us very unique.
Murphy:
People who are pioneers are resourceful and they find a way to be successful. My grandfather came over here as an Austrian immigrant and he built that business as a hardware store. My father took over the business. He changed it to more of a linen store. When I was growing up, I never really envisioned myself working at Pioneer Linens.
A good friend and I did a lot of public relations. Because we had gotten a lot of that buzz, my father said, ‘Maybe you could come in and do a little marketing for me.’
Murphy-Kubicek:
I never really thought I would work here, but I graduated in 2008. My mom needed some help, so I started here doing the marketing and advertising, so I just kind of fell into place.
Murphy:
The downturn and 2007, 2008 took down a lot of our clients, and Wells Fargo was kind enough to give us a line of credit at that point, which I was new in business and had to learn what that was and how to manage it.
Marissa Murphy-Adriaanse, Pioneer Linens:
My title is sometimes it's operations, sometimes it's e-commerce. I'm constantly working with Wells Fargo.
Murphy-Kubicek:
I think our relationship with Wells Fargo is pretty special. It's pretty wild to be with the same bank for all that time, but they've always helped us get what we need, especially during the pandemic with the PPP loans and everything has always been pretty easy.
Murphy:
Do you really like it?
Speaker:
I think it’s beautiful.
Murphy:
We often joke that Pioneer Linens is like that imaginary friend in our family.
Murphy-Kubicek:
I have two beautiful daughters that are two and four right now, and I'm so special that we're at four generations. It would be amazing to get to the fifth generation, too.
Murphy:
Over the years, our family has had a pioneering spirit. Wells Fargo was a pioneer in the banking business, and I've gone through many, many transitions like us.
