1868 ah yes, some people have found it their hobby to change the history of Andrew Johnson. The term "Whitewashed history" comes to mind. I think it's more willfull ignorance for the racist Theology, which gained Favor alongside, the Misogynistic rhetoric of masculinity. I guess you could say they are correlated but, at this time in history gun duels and domestic violence was seen as a show of " Force n Dominance" rather than submissive behavior. Whether they felt pity or remorse for their behaviors is not known, unless letters from the day are found like many of the world war letters to home.. I'd hope they would reflect before meeting the end.. but I don't know how evil minds work.. The misinformation of 2024 is just as divisive and the constant rhetoric for violence is tiring to listen to.. I sometimes feel, times haven't changed that much. Once I reflect on history and acknowledge the past wrongs. It's seems we keep repeating history without knowing it

@@JD-mm7ur You links and receipts to trump blatant corruption? Its well known at this point and anyone who doesnt know is purposefully not paying attention. Trump was impeached 2x for shit he was proven to have done. He was indicted by 4 grand juries who saw the evidence and voted to indict 4 times. In just one indictment, he was convicted on every one of teh 34 counts. The 34 crimes were the way he lied to the American public before the 2016 election. The fear was if they knew about the hush money that they wouldn't vote for him, so he covered it up in illegal ways. He is a proven in court adjudicated rapist. A jury saw the evidence and said he was liable. He is a business fraud, also as proven in court. He defrauded a charity. He said he will be a "dictator on day 1" and we should do away "with parts of the constitution". His Supreme Court just gave him complete immunity for anything he does including enacting the tenets of Project 2025. Do you really want this person to to be the worlds most powerful person who couldn't even be bothered to do the job right with his first 4 years? He also lied about losing an election and tried to stay in power. Does this sound like a principled and accountable person to you? He is literally everything our founding fathers warned against. About Van Burens's VP running a tavern, that actually wasn't uncommon for politicians from urban areas. Taverns had many more functions then than they do today, they were kind of an all-in-one third space (only if you were a man, though). People did interviews and got jobs there, organized meetings and politics, if you didn't have a permanent residence yet it was common to have your mail delivered to your local tavern, etc. People who ran taverns tended to be pretty significant, which naturally overlaps with politics. Granted, even if it was normal for politicians to also run taverns or saloons, most of the time they were closer to a mayor or a governor than the next in line for the highest office in the land.

"The sad fact is that I couldn't do it without [his wife] Usha," Vance wrote. "Even at my best, I'm a delayed explosion - I can be defused, but only with skill and precision. It's not just that I've learned to control myself, but that Usha has learned how to manage me. Put two of me in the same house and you have a positively radioactive situation." JD Vance.

At some point america needs to accept that their version of democracy has failed, numerous times, and they need to change WITH the times. democracy is successful when it is able to ebb and flow. The united states has held on to this idea that doesn't work today.

I studied Politics in high school in the UK and you have to do an entire module (a full exam paper) on US politics. I was so lost and understood very little. Thank you Leeja for making US politics understandable and accessible to us outside the US who usually find your political system a bit confusing 😅💖

4 more VPs were nominated, but lost in the general election: 1.) Breckinridge 2.) Humphrey 3.) Mondale 4.) Gore - who won the election but could not prove it in time, and so his opponent George Bush Jr. was sworn in.

I applaud the USA's freedom for journalism. Few countries have as much dirt on their leaders as America. And it's not because the US is more corrupt, it's because your media is less restricted than some. Well done. Support responsible journalism

Could you make a video about both of the VPs? It night not be your typical thing to do but I don't know much Harris and I often hear bad things about her. So now that Biden has dropped out and Harris might be running I think a video about her is needed. I'd really appreciate it. Now I really gotta do my own research.

Truman is an interesting character, he came in to a game he was not ready for a people took advantage of him but, he did figure out that it happened and he very publicly explained he was tricked, who did it &, he tried to warn the populace about it..... and if the populace wasn't so lazy, stupid &, self absorbed that would have been enough to fix things.

I know a guy named Ben Smith in CA..... op-ed written by Truman, the Washington Post on Dec.22, 1963, entitled “Limit CIA Role to Intelligence" The CIA is just a part of the problem now, NSA & Homeland security, PRISM.... It's alarming how much the government put into spying on the entire population, the tools they have &, all the horrible things they did to regular during program development.
